Looks like the former superpower is flexing their muscles on the digital casinos with a 84 page report that says lootbox should be banned from all games involving children....the focus was on FIFA and rightfully so as Liverpool and Chelsea brought European glory last season......ESA replied with a lengthy article that summarizes to "we read the report, we dont agree"......EA retoreted by saying they are the champions when it comes to parental advisory measures......

    Gambling? "It's in the game."

The game? "It still needs patching."

Hated EA for the horrifying things they did on C&C games especially C&C4. Only Joe Kucan made it bearable.

It's amazing how they don't realize they are just making things worse and worse for themselves.

Makes sense. They'd be in stage 3 now, right?

Though I'm also getting to the point that they are screwing themselves over so much I'm beginning to believe it's some weird roundabout way for them to actually force regulations without coming out and saying they want regulations. (not really, but I'm not awake enough not to think of gaming conspiracy theories, hehe)

Well of course they would disagree with that statement.
They got themselves into this mess ,and most of them are somewhat owned by investors who demand higher incomes, and care little for anything else. If they actually cared and agreed to change this easily, I still wouldn't believe they actually would fold, but instead look for some other loopholes or claim something else like 'due to the massive decrease in income, we've had to cut back on massive amounts of jobs (jobs currently overworked and underpaid, and executives getting big paychecks and bonuses) ' to try and coerce the employees into protesting to keep their jobs.

Didn't they change the name again recently? Or was that another thing that they are trying to "rebrand"?

Their legal team tried to pass loot boxes off as "surprise mechanics" and "randomized purchases" a few months back.

As a gatcha player, it's kinda funny to look at this whole lootbox fiasco, like... Gatchas have been doing this kind of thing for far longer and they disclose rates and make the entire game revolve around randomness to make sure you keep spending more and more... And yet it works just fine.

Well, maybe it's because gatchas aren't nearly as popular as AAA games... In any case, it is kinda amazing that the companies that tried to implement gatcha-like systems in their games refuse to acknowledge the things gatcha gaming has acknowledged ages back.

As far as I remember in China drop rate from lootbox can be lower than 1% for an item. And more to it, the said item must be dropped in 100 boxes.

most of gacha games are free. What EA trying to do is selling a game with a certain mechanic which can only be unlocked by buying a boxes to do it though with no 100% guarantee.

Loot boxes and gacha had been around since forever. The real question is: how they gonna apply it.
And the way i see this, EA should just get themself bankrupt. That's more effective. Because even if heaven falls, as long as their financial support still count, they'll stand against the apocalypse, as their famous quote from 2000's "EA GAMES: challenge everything". The hidden part is with "E-A$shole: challenge everything" =_=
And aslo, they have worst working environment for employee, period.

Yeah, I know, and while I hate the fact that they want to make people pay twice for their games, it's becoming the norm in AAA, so I don't care much.

What baffles me is how gatchas are being more honest with their playerbase than EA is being.
Both are pretty recent actually. I mean, microtransactions is a fairly recent method of getting money from people, especially randomized micro transactions.

Gambling though? That one has been around since forever.
