Battle between Ottoman empire and annexed Croatia (austria-hungary era). Keeping Ottomans from reaching anything North of them was a task and a half. Considering the Ottoman empire was on a massive winning roll.

Since you've been a staff member for a few years now. I guess you know Tony personally, and he's a she. One of life's most profound questions had been answered.

When I saw this thread title before opening the page, the Battle of Thermopylae came to mind!

The Ottoman Empire was not so powerful, a very large territory, but empty and easy to handle, against the face of the country of the East which was not so strong, the Ottoman Empire has completely lost ~

not really. their army during the push to europe was the strongest at that time. military structure, organization and logistics allowed them to push to vienna in shortest time possible.
their strategy of taxing only the non muslim allowed for recruitment of more soldiers (since they paid soldiers it was a good incentive)
if they weren't made to separate forces in croatia and still were determined to push for vienna at the same time. they would have destroyed europe completely.

Are you talking about the Battle of Tours? Wasn't that like 600 years before the rise of the Ottoman Empire?

Don't remember much but...iirc, this battle marked the decline of the Ottoman Empire. Suleiman overextended, so his supply lines were stretched thin--and it didn't help that along the way to Vienna, he lost his siege weapons because of the weather, had many deserters, and lost many soldiers to famine and diseases.

Actually, now that I think about it, this battle was more like 300 than the battle 300 was based on--800 Croatians vs ~150,000 Ottomans.

    A strategic mistake, I see ~
The construction and decline of empires, are often similar in function of the time, it is interesting to study this ~
Unfortunately, I think that studying all empires (known), our life will not be enough ~

Most definitely. Schools nowadays are trying to squeeze 6000 years of history into a ~15 year learning period, so there are bound to be omitted information, perhaps because of irrelevance, not enough time or information, or even due to being forgotten.

But to answer the question: to me, it would either be the Siege of Guns or...the Greco-Persian war where Greece and Iran forgot they were at war for about 2500 years. Buuuuuut, I bet not many people actually know that.
