Quite honestly, I feel as someone would try to "ascend" by using some unconventional pseudo-scientific sorcery. Or worse, transcend the entire universe itself, only to go back to r/imsorryjon.

 

IIRC, shields were being used less not because of ineffectiveness but because weapons were getting more and more 2 handed so they ran out of hands to hold weapons AND shields and decided to go with the weapon instead.

 

Plot twist, your reader could understand what the heck you put on "incomprehensible" spell chanting xD

 

It's gonna be like the lines from "The Lion King" where they literally say, "I have no idea who I'm saying!"

Full "circle", but the "circle" here is not a circle. At most, it could be interpreted as infinite, if not endless, and eternal, if not timeless. There may have been breakthroughs in such perverse methodology, but I doubt they were able to achieve their initial objective. We, consumers of such fiction (or not), have all seen and read what happens when someone accidentally enters a "realm" beyond their understanding, and to make it simple. It's like buying a high level player's account, but doesn't know shit about the high level player's strategy, items, and whatnot.

For instance, although not magic, human's actually believed that anybody who could float in water was a witch or madman, as people during this time didn't actually know how to swim.

To them, floating in water is just "sorcery," similar to how one would be shocked as to how one would feel if a whale, who was found washed over up, suddenly exploded. (It actually happens)

They'd feel shocked, and run away for their lives, as to them they just saw the 'devil's wrath'.

 

Well, soon enough, someone's going to train so hard that even death no longer collects their soul. Consequently, making them The Enternal Almighty God Of The Heavens, and Infinite World in which we live in.

 

But that's backwards thinking or fear of the unknown, particularly the supernatural belief of angels and demons.

What I was explaining was the entropy of arcane knowledge at the inflation of conventional wisdom as civilizations progress. True, they might be certainly connected if we align them together as lines of thought in that particular timeline, but I speak of advancement, not massacres from fear.

I got the answer as simple as possible when I tried non-medieval fantasy. Starships make magic useless unless you're super powerful magicans. Even if those starships are powered by magic. The more technology goes on, the harder it makes logical for one person to take everything in their hands.

 

If it's more efficient, then that would likely happen, and they would at least try to implement it in some way.
