Mafia [Mafia] DotA Lynch Game Interest and OOC Thread

Ah, now that I'm dead, I can give some feedback on the Vengeful Mafia mode.

I think it's an interesting concept tbh, but... It honestly feels very skewered towards Town? Like, it may be my bias as a Mafia that had a bunch of people suspecting me for reasons that completely escape me (I seriously have no clue how everyone got suspicious of me, it made no sense IMHO, but whatever), but... Well, let's look at how the game works to see the odds here.

With 7 town and 2 Mafia, the Mafia needs to kill 5 town in order to have a guaranteed victory... Except the 5th kill is on a vengeful town that can kill a Mafia as revenge, so the actual number of necessary Town kills is 6 for a Mafia victory. This can be achieved in 3 day phases.

Problem is, the Mafia has 0 control over who gets killed... Like, sure, we have our words to try and convince people, but it's a really big and hard ordeal to try pinning suspicions on people when we're very well aware on who are the suspicious players. And if town overall agrees that X person is Town, we have basically no way of shooting their head, unless we die, in that case we have a one shot revenge kill to get rid of one of the semi-confirmed townies.

We have very little voting power to skew the votes towards town players and the number of Mafia being this small also means we can't really afford to throw one of our partners under the bus to look more like a town... I mean, we can, but it's a really really dangerous move.

And then there is the revenge shot by the townies, in this one we have absolute 0 control over, we can't even use our votes to try and escape that... So... Essentially, in order to get a Mafia victory, we need to be successful in fooling the Townies 6x in a row, with 3 of those not having our input at all... It feels really really hard to get a Mafia victory in this one.

Additionally, it kinda feels like the game is somewhat unfun as Mafia? Like... We do have a day chat to conspire in if needed, but if we try working together too much, it will just make us look suspicious, and in this game we can't really afford to sacrifice a player... Also, we can't wait until last minute to schedule our votes together and lynch someone in the nick of time because... Well, then they'd just revenge the obvious Mafia that did the last minute vote change, and then lynch the remaining Mafia in the next day.

So uhn... It felt like I had no way of scheming, no real power over the game at all, and no real goals since there was no scum to find, I just need to keep trying to find scummy behavior on town players somehow... It was real rough, and honestly not very engaging.
Like, I always prefer being Mafia when playing this game, but... In this Vengeful Mafia mode, I definitely wanted to be Town instead... That was a really weird feeling.

I really feel like Mafia needs a buff for this game mode. Both in power and in making the game more fun for them... I think the best way to go about it would to just give the Mafia a night kill (that could not be revenged by vengeful townies)... Though perhaps simply increasing the proportion of Mafias when compared to the overall amount of players would be a good way to go about it... Giving more voting power to the Mafia could make a considerable difference.

Those are my thoughts on the game at least~

Huh? I was cheerful before when playing as a town? In all honesty I don't remember, it's been too long since I last played Mafia... Well, aside from Fossil's last game that is~

Oh well, let's not delve too deep into this since you're still in the game though, better to avoid talking over this kind of thing before the game ends.

Spoiler: Game details

Game set up:
- 19 players, 4 Factions of 4 + 3 Neutrals
- No active powers, no factional Kill
-> Neutrals do have an active ability
- 4 phases - [Dawn], [Day], [Dusk], [Night].
-> Voting happens during [Dawn] and [Dusk] phases.
--> Votes during [Dusk] phase are hidden. (In the PM)
-> Talking during [Dawn] and [Day] phases.

Every phase is 24h. Includes [Dusk] even if only for consistency in phase ending/starting times.

Lynch:
Any tie will result in all tied parties being lynched. Vote count of the official phase end time will be used, even if GM is late. Will be after every individual voting phase.

Votes:
Not Mandatory. Any non-Voters will be listed as No-Vote (as opposed to No Lynch - its not the same!)

Role Reveal:
No quotes, screenshots or otherwise GM sourced reveal allowed. Self written explanation is allowed. No copy & pasting from Game DM's (includes typing it off)

Chats:
Any factional chats will have an indicator in the relevant roles as to when these chats are active.

(May still be adjusted)
