Discussion Things you don't like in novels?

I don't like how in BLs no one uses condom its a must, especially with mxm so a friendly advice always use them

 

OMG I also hate over promo of China in some novels like in rebirth of supermodel i had to check couple of times to see if im readin propaganda script

 

Then they also discriminate women, at least in novels from male authors.

Dominating, unfit to be in society, obsessive, barely even talk CEO male lead that tries to control every aspect of the girl's life for """her happiness"""(read: his own insecurity)

 

When the MC gets sent to another world and immediately becomes OK with being a mass murderer

 

I don’t like that in some novels the MC (or whoever) does/says something idiotic, disgusting, or enraging, but then no one acknowledges it ever again. They just all act like it never happened.

 

STDs don't discriminate. Even with different species

 

That was intense and at the same time scary!

 

I hate in BL novels is how the ML likes to top but wouldn't let MC to top him. From my perspective it's like the gong/seme finds the thought of being topped humiliating but he didn't consider that the shou/uke is also a male. For me that's hypocrite. Oh, and I disapprove that they don't use condom or other safe sex preparations.

And there's the ML halo that they can get away from being reported albeit raping(because if the person in your bed is asking who you are and asking where they are, it clearly mean there's something wrong), kidnapping, harassing, blackmailing, etc.

And how the characters are too flat and single-minded. It's like they don't even have any other hobbies except following the MC.

Then the over promotion of China. I remember that I read in a CNovel, the MC is wondering why his flashlight is flickering even though it's made in China. In the Philippines, if a product is low quality we often justify it by saying its like that because its made in China.

 

Clicked on the thread and first thing I saw was OP's post about BL and Condoms, you won this time OP but I'll be prepared to avoid it next time.

 

i hate (or i guess, i'm frustrated by) how there's always weird power dynamics in cn novels. like not even the whole dog-blood family succession drama, or how common it is that there are illegitimate children in every single modern novel. just. there's this weird obsession with being rich and taking revenge? i've never read a cn novel where the mc doesn't get absolutely Loaded by the end, and finding one where the mc starts off in a poor family is hard enough in the first place. then once they get money, they suddenly become beautiful????????? and most novels, even the tiniest insult is enough to make the mc note that down for future reference and repay it times 10?????? i Do Not get it. that sounds like such a tiring way to live. being poor sucks for sure and nobody likes a pushover but you don't have to make the character the most rich and powerful person ever who terrifies anyone against them to prove that they're living a nice life gfdgskdhgkdshskldjfasf what happened to good old peaceful living in a community.
anyway that's my rant

SAME, like in some novel, there was a whole chapter talking about the amazingness of China and how blue eyed same looking foreigners worship them

I do wish that more novels use condoms, both bg and bl. But I swear I've come across at least a couple that actually did. (Though I did just finish an arc in Side Character Transmigrations: The Final Boss is No Joke where the mc was handing out condoms to couples like candy and actually went out of her way to tell them to stay safe. Not bl, but still nice to see).
I want to say that I've also seen one that has has the mc and ml wait until they both got tested before they had sex, but I might be remembering wrong and it was actually an English book that I read that >.> (Highly possible as I'm a voracious reader of bl/gay books and novels, so sometimes *often* I'll remember the right thing from the wrong source)

Hands down best review ever. Side to side with a manga synopsis about overexploitation of isekai manga.

 

Things i hate in novels are
1.China Number one
2.The Hate of Japanese in some CN novels
3.Killing is bad kind of characters in a Fantasy world where death is closer than your parents are
4.MC has power to dominate everything but keeps letting Assholes go thus implicating his friends and family in the process
5.Gutless MC even though he has the power to absolutely destroy his enemy
6.MCs who doesn't care about anyone as long as it isn't a woman (im looking at you Summer)
7.MCs who wants to live a peaceful life while some demon lord is trying to destroy the world
8.MCs that collects woman like collecting pogs
9.Massive amount of harem members that doesn't even get screen time after a new one appears

and finally the most important
10.NOT ENOUGH LOLIS

 

Quite a few actually.
Er gen and Feng Lin Tian Xia tends to favor this (the latter leans to harem so usually the most powerful one tends to be positively *ancient* compared to the mc)
