After finishing up the details of a long list of 147 things I need to get rid of before moving away, I was slightly impressed that my friend checked 90% of said list to buy and move into their new apartment. I mean...people have different tastes so they might not like our stuff. They got married recently and are going to move from a small kitchenette to a 1LDK apartment after their spouse arrives from their home country. Luckily our schedules matched and as we leave, they get new furniture (we bought it all less than 2 years ago) and appliances fit for a married couple's life! Hooray! I just love it when things connect like that!

Anyway, I was wondering if I had accumulated too many things in 4 and a half years. The list groups together a lot of stuff (Silverware and tableware not counted as individual items but sets of things) and there's a couple of other objects (coffee-related) that will be sent to my parents' house that didn't make it there. So I roughly calculated that pooling in together everything including consumables, personal items, and clothes, we would be living with 3000 things in a 48 square meter apartment...:sweating_profusely:

Then I stumbled on this article saying the average American household has over 300.000 items :blobfearful::blobfearful::blobfearful:

    TL;DR
I got very curious and wanted to know if Nuffians are hoarders...Additional questions:

Can you remember every item you own and where's located?
Have you ever used an outside storage facility?
Do you consider yourself a hoarder?
Do you throw things away easily?

Also got affected by the *pool fever* :blobpats: but I'm not good at filtering so have some random choices!

....I stopped counting! And I have no idea how to estimate >.<

I used to be pretty minimalist when I was in uni (could fit everything in one car)

...but when we got a house definitely it's become a lot easier to get more and more things... so it's really hard for me to guess!

Umm... I think we are less materialistic than the average American, but I think having your own place in a house is definitely different from being at renting status.

I currently own over 37.2 trillion items. This is not a joke. I repeat, I currently amount to approx. 37.2 trillion worth of cells.

I feel like I don't have that much stuff since I don't count stuff like furniture and stuff cuz I still live with my parents, just a bunch of clothes, electronics. action figures, books, accessories, makeup, and daily item

Oh wait, if I include all of my game DVDs since ps1 then I do have thousands of stuff, so I guess I have more things than I thought

Hmm, though what interests me more is how much stuff people have/own digitally, like music, games, books, site subscription etc

Back in my youth, I read a lot of sci-fi novels with settings that were impending or post-apocalyspe. :blobpopcorn_two: I was quite influenced by the survivalist or self sufficient characters in those novels. :blobsalute: Thus when I started earning enough money, I would occasionally buy gear to have around for "just in case" purposes. :blobphone::blobthumbsdown: Unfortunately, because I'm not actively using most of these things, I don't remember where I've placed them. :blobsweat: Of course, after a while, I don't even remember owning some things. :blobhug: Nowadays, I might be described as having hoarding tendencies, but I like to think of myself as paranoid! :blobspearpeek:

So in summary, I got a lot of stuff. Not a house full of garbage, but gear still in their unopened boxes. :blobwhistle:

Hmm the rent vs. owning thing definitely makes a difference!
I always knew I had to move out eventually so I thought I’ve kept my belongings to a minimum until it was actually necessary to list everything... I think I treasured and kept most of them for useful purposes or as KonMari says “joyful” so I didn’t lose much track of what we had or where it was. But I was still surprised by the amount... I wish I had less stuff!

If you dont count shirts, pants and formal wear then I dont really have much.

Around 100-200 items mostly tiny items like pens, markers, chargers, phone accessories and old toys.

Counting the clothes it should be below 300.

Kinda think that when they said over 300k they definitely are counting each items individually.

I own more than 2000 books and those are just books, so I think your 3000 items for one apartment is very reasonable. Probably owns more than 100 colored pens alone (cos I like to buy stationeries), then you gotta count those colored pencils, colored markers for drawings (copics), etc

I remember where general stuff is located but not individually, sometimes I even forgot I own some things (like those double-sided tape I thought I ran out of).
    Never used outside storage.
Dont think I am a hoarder but it is hard for me to throw things out.

Shouldn't be over 500ish or at least it was around that much when my family moved a few years ago
books take up around 200 of it while the other 300ish comes from my school supplies, clothes, and other stuff
Might have increased to 600 or so, but definitely no more than that

Mhm! I felt similarly about this!

Maybe it would be easier to answer with how many moving boxes it would take! :blobsweat_2::blobsweat_2::blobsweat_2:

Uh... I don't really want to think about what moving will be like yet. :sweating_profusely::sweating_profusely::sweating_profusely: We will probably be at this place for at least 5 more years, so there is still some time.......

Hmm I guess you could either check the number of files or terabytes for that but surprisingly I don’t keep much digital stuff... I still buy physical copies of anything I really love >.>; even movies and dramas...
