Discussion If Japanese protagonists were replaced with Chinese ones...

Just watched a pretty depressing anime episode. It's a downer. The title is Isekai Cheat Magician and it's the 7th episode. The one where

a mysterious mastermind lured a female friend of the protagonist to the battlefield, where the protagonist was fighting a dragon. The dragon killed the female friend which caused the protagonist to go into "Super Saiyan" mode.

But what did the protagonist do? After beating the dragon to the ground, he asked a question and let the dragon go. AFTER the dragon freely admitted his involvement in the conspiracy to screw up the protagonist's life. HE. LET. THE. DRAGON. GO!

After witnessing the murder of his friend, the protagonist peacefully let the murderer fly away.

I couldn't help thinking that the protagonist was really lame.

Now, if it were a Chinese web novel protagonist, the following events would happen after the protagonist went into "Super Saiyan" mode. First, the dragon would be beaten to the point of near death and after finding out the identity of the mastermind, the dragon would be put to death in the most horrific manner. After that, the protagonist might even declare a death sentence on all of the dragon's family members, friends and associates.

Needless to say, the mastermind behind the incident will be mercilessly slaughtered later. Along with every single member of her clan. Including the branch families.

This turn of events would be much more satisfying for the audience. That's why I think some Japanese works can be improved vastly by replacing the protagonists with the ones from the more violent Chinese web novels.

What do you think? And which Japanese protagonist would you replace?

 

If it was switched with a shianshia protagonist, not only will the protagonist not let the dragon go. He will also proceed to massacre the whole town, because the plot specified that the entire town is in league with the dragon in order to make his life miserable. He will then rape the dragon's daughter, as compensation. Then you can insert 'your father' statements.

 

If i would replace him shinya from abnormal joshi kei. One of rare mc doesnt give fuck about anything execpt his friend.

 

JP protag: Violence is not the solution.

CN protag: Violence can solve everything.

KR protag: *is actually capable of analysing the problem and thinking of the most fitting solutions but waits until he's done with grinding*

 

You forgot that the dragon would plead miserably at the MC's feet while spouting. "I have eyes but couldn't see Mount Tai! Please spare me!"

 

You would see the rise of a new darker and more terror stricing Demon Lord than ever existed.

 

All three cliché extremes, whether JP, CN or KR, are big yikes. Then again, that's not surprising for fiction mainly aimed at adolescents.

 

FIXED--KR protag: Would see if there's a way to make money from the situation before finding out his girlfriend had been NTRing him for the last few months.

 

Then the dragon's ancestor will cough up blood and chase the MC to the end of the earth, and when MC finally outwit the ancestor it turns out the Ancestor dragon is just a lowly being of a higher realm and now MC is the enemy of a God-Deity rank being. MC then falls off a cliff in some forbidden zone but miraculously survives, not only that he stumbles upon somekind of heavenly treasure that everybody and their mother is looking for since the end of the last Primodial war...

 

And the dragons daughter will end up as a member of his Harem who thinks he can do no wrong!

 

That fuckin KR manhwa plot at the end

Yeah a CN xia MC would kill the dragon, everyone else around because he lost face by letting his friend be killed, then he will go on a killing spree slaughtering a million of non related people (and the mastermind too with all his family, all the people from the shopping district he was buying from, his pet hamster, every person he met in his life, and a lot of non chinese people for good mesure), he will also destroy a few mountains, crush a continent or two, and everybody that dared to cross the street in front of him, watched him funny or isn't a harem member or a rapeable female... While doing all of that the author will say that the MC is rightously doing horrible stuff that the main bad guy would only think about in his worse nightmares because CN Xia authors like big numbers and wonky artificial moral high grounds.

 

If you want to read a story with an excellent Chinese protagonist. I recommend you pickup The Lord Of The Mysteries.One of the best protagonists till date. Calculative and is extremely careful. He's basically got the Heart of a japanese. The mind of a Chinese and the Grinding skills of a korean. In essence he is the perfect protag. Have a read and let me know.

Also, that sounds exactly like the protagonist from 我只想安静地打游戏, the second novel of Super Gene's author. His cheat is the ability to grind dungeons on a special smartphone.

 

Every mc transmigrated to villain(ess) noble or mob character in otome stories will implement Scorched-Earth Policy and thoroughly kill his/her enemies, their relatives and allies to make sure he/she lives happily ever after.
