And in common usage, a heavy machine gun does not need much accuracy when you plaster an entire area into a beaten zone. It's more intended for snipers and even then potential usage is limited. Though to be really fair, bullets curve all the time it's just script writers don't point it out. It's called "droppage" and is because of gravity. At 300m, a bullet will drop by about 14 inches from an aimed straight line and if you fired at something far away, by the time the bullet reaches the target, it would actually be flying sideways with the nose pointing down. So when it hits, it's actually the bullet going through sideways through the body, not nice.
