If it's a fanfic or something of a JP manga/anime then it could be the name Tsuru. It was a huge pain when I was reading MTL of One Piece for example...

I think it was a double take. That guy was looking at the bunny girl's ears that were like a "stooped over old man" and he thought it was a white crane standing on her head at first before realizing it was bunny ears. Maybe. The narration is a bit unclear.
