He (Zhao Liangze) gets assigned to an operation overseas. The younger cousin (Bai Shuang) got brokenhearted because her older cousin got together with the man she loves and her father died. She goes on a vacation (but not really) in the country which happens to be where Liangze is (I think it was Cuba). Zhao Liangze bumped into her and realized that she is actually the one he likes, but she refuses his pursuit. It turns out that Shuang is there to take revenge on Huo Shaoheng for killing her father and she was intentionally luring Liangze. She was working for the organization that her father worked for and was helping them take down Shaoheng and his team. Shaoheng and Liangze found out about this but they secretly pretended to be unaware and went along with Shuang's "manipulations" so as to not raise suspicions and to take down the group behind Shuang. However, in one of the traps laid out against Shaoheng and his team, Shuang unexpectedly betrayed the organization and saved Shaoheng, Liangze and Gu Nianzhi. In the process, she was seriously wounded but she hid it from them and pretended to be okay. When they finally got out of the trap, Shuang was already very weak. They rushed her to the hospital and on the way there, Liangze was crying and telling her that he will marry her when they got home, that they will have kids, that he will retire from the military to be together with her (because she technically betrayed the country initially so she will not pass the military screening for spouses, but that she could avoid being executed and totally branded a traitor because she saved Shaoheng, Liangze, and Nianzhi who were then conducting a mission. Thus, Liangze believed he can live a peaceful married life with her and he will just become a businessman or something like that.) Sadly, Shuang dies before they can get to the hospital. This made me really really sad because I wanted them to be together over Liangze and the older cousin (I forgot her name), and I was so happy when Liangze finally realized his feelings for Shuang. Alas, it wasn't a good end for them. When Shuang's body was brought back home to China, Liangze became the chief mourner and claimed that he was Shuang's fiance. Of course the Bai family was shocked because he was known to be with the older cousin.

Almost done reading. So Yamaguchi Aiko = Yamaguchi Yuko = Wen Shouyi. Wen Shouyi is also the real biological daughter (more like a failed experiment) of Qin Yaogang ( Gu Nianzhi's surrogate mother and the scientist who tortured her).
