More like 1984 style. You can only move within the set of permissions that nobody, including the guy doing the policing, has a clue what they are. So they will tend to be on the safe side rather than risking it.

For example, you can't use Orange and need the praise Apple. To be safe, everything from Lemon fruit to Yellow color and maybe some faded Red are probably banned in some capacity. Up to the point where probably only Red Apple is permitted.

At some point the Red Apple isn't permitted because they no longer aline with the current "apple" of the state so they would ban the apple too and now you can only praise the Apple Tree without the Apple.

Yet a novel like "strike back proud goddess" is still there right?
So they have some kind of double standart then.

Yeah chinese dictatorship was really agressive this time. They banned novels which contain gore , adult scene and even swearings.

I believe that's Taiwanese, so no.

The government scronched a ton of the really popular novels there because they didn't meet newer, more restrictive content guidelines.

so they ban novels that way too praise CN and antagonizes other country too much ?
i thought they will leave that alone for the sake of "patriotism"

You'd think so, right? The problem here is probably the way the author describes SARFT in his novel.

Still, if I'm not mistaken IRAS has been banned before and the recent ban has been in place for a while too.
How about somebody gives some examples of other novels that were supposedly recently banned? Any of them translated to English yet?
