In attempt to find ways to become really productive (and finish all the reports and presentations I have due within the next 2 weeks after weeks of procrastinating), I've discovered different sleeping cycles on the internet and among them was this really draconian sleeping cycle called the Uberman cycle where instead sleeping for a long period of time, you break your sleep into 8 20 minutes naps throughout the day.

Now I personally don't know anyone who's crazy enough to have that kind of sleeping schedule and if you do have it or know someone who do, props to them!

Personally, when I was in my first year in university, I was unable to separate myself from having my necessary 10-12 hour sleep every day.
Now that I'm in my last year, I applaud myself for being able to maintain a 6 to 8 hours sleep schedule and being able to function well throughout the day :blobtriumph::blobtriumph::blobtaco::blobtaco:

    My question is:
How many hours of sleep do you need on average to be able to function well throughout the entire day?

Potato misses my childhood when my parents forced me to go to sleep every time around. Now I treasure sleep more than ever... especially in the cold winter months.

Healthy is what i've heard is from 6-8 and is usually recommended.
4 hours is the minimum i've ever heard of anyone sustaining a lifestyle with over a longer period of time, albeit probably with a lot of coffee.

But on average, it probably depends on what tasks you'll do on those days.

If I accidentally stay up way late or need to get up really early, I could probably manage most of the next day with 3-5 hours, or if anything important will happen in only a few hours after waking up, 2-4 hours of sleep .

The thing is, humans have this thing called sleep debt. Meaning if you sleep too little, you'll eventually have to sleep more to catch up sort of. And a sleep debt can really wreck your schedule. As some examples, when I had previously been to some LANs and either slept little or not at all, I could sleep over 12 hours the next night, one time even racking up 15 straight hours of sleep.

So, sure. You can skip out of sleep for a few days, with a lot of help and stimulants, but it will catch up to you.

Hence, I would honestly say 7 hours is a good average.

I usually sleep 2 hours during working days.

Then compensate all the sleep lost during non wotking days.

A total of 18 hours of sleep during saturday and sunday.

While technically it’s between 2 to 4 hours is my average, but the first answer. This. Is. Sparta. Rings truer for me.

How many hours of sleep do you need on average to be able to function well throughout the entire day?
My answer is 2 hours. For about 3 to 4 days straight.

I can function on little sleep if I have to, but I really really don't want to. Days I have to get up early I sleep around 2-4 hours depending. Days I have to get up close to noon I sleep 6-8 hours...and days where I can sleep however long I want are anywhere between 8-12 hours.

I get to 'sleep' for as long as my body allows me to. That typically means between 20 minutes and 3 hours, or however long it takes for my back to start spasming. On an average day I get around a total of 3 to 5 hours of sleep before giving up. Awake time normally lasts between 20 to 30ish hours before my back relaxes enough to sleep again.

Tonight, I’m getting no sleep. I have a 6-8 page paper that’s due tomorrow in my 6pm class. So naturally, I’m procrastinating...
