And i agree with you with the fact that stagnation and setback are needed in the story.
But it doesnt mean you need to change the whole dynamic of the story.
It felt to me like a lot of p*ssy reader complained that the MC is too OP or that the MC is being too bland. Which forces the author to create an entirely new dynamic to shut those type of readers up.
And it instead ruined it for the hardcore fans of the story.

 

Linley is CD FACED countless setbacks. Countless stagnation.
But the story remained true to itself.
The dynamic of the story never changes from start to finish.
Setbacks are dime in a dozen, but thats not a reason to nerf the Mc right?

I personally see Warlock of the Magus World as my favorite novel, and therefor i would recommend Divine Throne of Primordial Blood and Supreme Magus.
DTPB: Grand aim: Progress of humanity, Su Chen utilizes everything he has at his disposal to reveal the mysteries of the world and achieve progress. A (slightly) less evil and more Patriotic (or whatever you would call it) Version of Leylin. Romantic subplot(s).
Supreme Magus: Lith is an absolute wreck mentally, Solus is comparable to the AI chip but on the other hand also his"Good side". Less calculating, more done with the world, both scheme and kill ruthlessly if required. A depressed Version of Leylin.
