:blobpopcorn::blobpopcorn::blobpopcorn: This is a cheap poll inspired by various other threads on the forum.

The Magical Girl of Romance and Depravity comes to you one day having just finished a novel that she really enjoyed. In fact, she enjoyed it so much that that she absolutely needed to get everyone to read it.

Since you are a part of "everyone", the Magical Girl has come to bribe you to read the novel.

This novel does not exist anywhere on the Internet, and it's a exclusive work of fiction that belongs in the Celestial realm. Consequently, it is impossible to find plot summaries or reviews or synopses of the book from any human.

In fact, to protect the divine secretive nature of the novel, your memory will be erased after reading the novel so you will no longer remember the details. However, you will retain any vague impressions you had of the novel (e.g. "good" or "bad" or "exciting").

    There is a catch.

Specifically, the novel is BL (boy's love) — if you are male.

The novel is GL (girl's love) — if you are female.

The novel is a reasonable length (not excessively long or short), and the Magical Girl assures you that the plot is very interesting. 95% of people who read the novel (regardless of their gender) ended up saying they liked it.

In case your regular life is too busy for reading, the Magical Girl says that you can use a dimensional room where time is frozen to read the novel. This way, you won't lose any time or sleep over reading a novel. However, you can only use the dimensional room three times before it vanishes, so you should avoid using it for non-reading purposes.

The Magical Girl is willing to pay you in pure gold in order to get you to read the novel. However, she only has a limited amount, and if you ask for too much gold she will refuse you entirely. Consequently, you should think about the least amount of gold you will be willing to accept to read the novel.

To ensure that you properly read the novel, the Magical Girl will give you a ten question quiz after you finish reading. The quiz will be extraordinarily easy if you actually read the novel, but it will be quite challenging/deceptive if you didn't pay attention or only skimmed the novel. You need to score a 100% to win the gold award. If you score less than an 80%, the Magical Girl will fine you seven years worth of bad luck and furiously curse you for offending her goodwill!

Note: 1 gram of gold = about $50 USD

    1. What is the least amount of gold you would accept to read a BL/GL novel?

    2. Do you ever read novels that you don't like? Why do you keep reading?

    3. Suppose that there was a GENUINELY amazing novel in a genre that you don't ordinarily like to read. In fact, the "future you" from a parallel universe has told you this, and encourages you to read the novel because it will change your life. Will you read it?

    4. What if that "future you" tells you it isn't the genre/novel itself that will change your life, but rather the PEOPLE you will meet because of the hobby. For instance, what if you were told that you will meet your future spouse from doing this hobby?

    5. Have you ever stopped yourself from trying a hobby because you were afraid that you would get addicted?

    6. How do you break an addiction to a hobby?

This is no bribe/award, but compensation for emotional distress. :blobpeek:

P.S. I can be bought over for 10g.

I'm somewhat gender-fluid, so I get read both I guess? Regardless, while I wouldn't need to be paid to read, I would also milk the fairy for as much money as I can.

Also for a novel that was painful for me to read and that I really hated, even though I thought it was incredibly well written and still gave it 5 stars, see The Coldest War by Ian Tregilis. Honestly, while I think he's a great author, Tregilis does not write novels that I like a lot and would read more than one time.

I read BL because my gf was reading it and she wanted to talk about her novel, but had no one so I offered only skipping the scene were they were being intimate. I don't mind BL as long as I don't have to read the romance. the novel themselves have good story if you ignore the icky parts XD

If I would find the novel entertaining, then I'd read for free. If not then I would require a not insignificant amount of money

Also, if it's in gold then it would have to be a lot more than if it was money being directly transferred to my bank account since I'd have to go through the hassle of converting the gold to money...

    1. What is the least amount of gold you would accept to read a BL/GL novel?
    10g, or just below $500.
    2. Do you ever read novels that you don't like? Why do you keep reading?
I do read novels I don't like, but I stop reading them.
    3. Suppose that there was a GENUINELY amazing novel in a genre that you don't ordinarily like to read. In fact, the "future you" from a parallel universe has told you this, and encourages you to read the novel because it will change your life. Will you read it?
No, I like my life and that sound ominous. Also I've spent my whole life in a fight between future and past me, so I'll have to pass.
    4. What if that "future you" tells you it isn't the genre/novel itself that will change your life, but rather the PEOPLE you will meet because of the hobby. For instance, what if you were told that you will meet your future spouse from doing this hobby?
    I'd go for it.
    5. Have you ever stopped yourself from trying a hobby because you were afraid that you would get addicted?
Nope, I stop myself from getting into hobbies because I have no time.
    6. How do you break an addiction to a hobby
Become super busy with work or something.

Near impossible ... No way, just give me a truck full of gold to read it !

Altough there are other ways for the fairy to convince me to read it, that don`t require any gold ...

    1. What is the least amount of gold you would accept to read a BL/GL novel?
I already read them but I wouldn't say no to getting paid
    2. Do you ever read novels that you don't like? Why do you keep reading?
In the past. OCD (have to finish what I start). I'm better about that now.
    3. Suppose that there was a GENUINELY amazing novel in a genre that you don't ordinarily like to read. In fact, the "future you" from a parallel universe has told you this, and encourages you to read the novel because it will change your life. Will you read it?
a genre I don't read? so religious texts and bodice rippers (romance)? if it's one of those two genres than nope, I probably wouldn't bother.
    4. What if that "future you" tells you it isn't the genre/novel itself that will change your life, but rather the PEOPLE you will meet because of the hobby. For instance, what if you were told that you will meet your future spouse from doing this hobby?
nope, I still wouldn't bother. I'm neither religious nor a fan of romance and finding my SO in either crowd would cause problems later.
    5. Have you ever stopped yourself from trying a hobby because you were afraid that you would get addicted?
    no
    6. How do you break an addiction to a hobby?
I've never been attached enough to a hobby to become addicted.

What kind of terrible harrassment is this? I would read an extremely good novel but can't remember the plot clearly. I think I would go crazy trying to look for this novel I have a vague impression of. It sounds painful.

The only problem with this scenario is what if I hate the story. I don't want to read through it and take a quiz with such a large chance of failure. I barely remember the name of the protagonist in some of my favorite stories.

    1. I would read it if it is good.
    2. I read bad novels with the hope that it'll get better. That the plot isn't just cardboard. If it doesn't work out, I'll drop it.
    3. I read lots of different genres just not really scifi. There's no harm in trying it. I could always drop it if it's boring.
    4. I don't know... scifi really bores me. I would rather watch paint dry than watch Star Wars. If I had to marry a person highly passionate about scifi would it change my life in a good way? I'm rather dismissive of the genre, we'll definitely clash on this topic one day.
    5. It depends. Is my addiction by choice or is it inevitable like drugs?
    6. Find something else you are more passionate about.
