Four Symbols/ Four Sacred Beasts. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Symbols Many thanks to He Who Fights Monsters' Author Shirtaloon for the inspiration for this thread. It started as a random thought as it was my turn to drive the family car. As I was zoning out, I sort of remembering about a xianxia with system and the MC's strength stat got update as Dragonic Might, as in STR 1080 = DraM 1, and the increase in points is exponential. So yeah, then I recalled Randidly before swiftly erasing him from my mind cuz I hate the character development and have not reread, the 1000+++ chps are not helpful. And just went straight to recall HWFM with each essense somewhat representing stats of STR, DEX, CON, Recovery (correct me if I am wrong). There are 4 stats, then my mind wandered to the four beasts, Blue Dragon, White Tiger, Red Phoenix and Black Turtle. Assuming the Dragon represents strength as most if not all xianxia consider dragons to be strong, tiger to be Dexterity for speed, flame bird to be recovery cuz harder to kill than cockroach thanks to rebirth and Turtle to be Constitution cuz turtles are hard. This is a discussion thread, so do churn some ideas, such as reshuffling the positions corresponding to the stats. Thanks for reading.
First time I've heard of Recovery as a stat. If anything it's Stamina I guess. All I know is STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, LCK.
Dragon = Male = STR Phoenix = Female = INT (more like wisdom I think, which affect Comprehension ability... I guess ?)
If i use EPIC as standard then White tiger = Speed, wind and metal elemental. Black tortoise = Constitution, strength, and water elemental. Crimson Bird = Regeneration, explosive power and fire elemental. Azure Dragon = Void and wood elemental. Thunder also sourounding azure dragon
I don't think the spirit stat correspond to constitution... Jason's spirit essence was either sin or doom (I forgot which one) and they're both pretty heavily offense focused. Sophie's spirit stat (mystic essence) got her that defense skill, but they were actually anticipating that she'd get a flight skill from that essence. If I had to say, spirit stat would correspond with INT in normal RPG game, where all the really magical stuff comes from. Which reminds me, your 4 stats don't have a stat for magic. In a world where everyone uses your 4 stas, everyone becomes measured by mundane physical capabilities.
His Spirit essence is Doom, and they were expecting her to get a flight skill from the Wind essence, not Mystic. Also, the essences in HWFM bind with stats by order of absorption, not by affinity. The order is Speed > Power > Recovery > Spirit, at least in all the processes we've seen. I'm not sure if which stat and essence is bound to even matters in the greater scheme since stats just increase based on the skill development of the bound essence as far as I can tell.
You can try copying the 4 minor arcana from the tarot cards Cup/chalice - emotions and love, water element wand/staff - creativity and will, fire element coins//pentacles/token - material body possessions, earth element swords/daggers - Reason , wind element from this we connect the 4 sacred beasts cups = water dragon wand = fire phoenix or fire tiger coins = earth turtle sword daggers = wind phoenix or wind tiger
These mythological creatures have been synthesized into the 5 element system. The Azure Dragon of the East represents Wood, the Vermilion Bird of the South represents Fire, the White Tiger of the West represents Metal, and the Black Tortoise of the North represents Water. In this system, the fifth element Earth is represented by the Yellow Dragon of the Center
It's funny how some authors tend to forget the Yellow Dragon from the Four Symbols, because they don't expect a fifth symbol. It's sort of like how there must be five Heavenly Kings in the group "Four Heavenly Kings".
