Its very disturbing to say the least.
They could just use invitro to get a new generation or something
    Cloning is just wrong.
To me, it is lack of respect for life
It would be one thing if it was a hunting dog that is cloned but a pet..supposed equal family member. thats just yucky

I don't think it is disrespect to life. Nature makes clones everywhere, day in and day out, how could our clone-making be disrespectful to nature?

What makes me sad is that the new cat is another cat. Just like an identical twin, it has his own traits but the adults in the room will never look at it for what it is, but for what the other cat, de dead one, was.

Well, maybe I am wrong and they are discovering the unique traits of the clone at the same time they look for the traits of the DNA-donor.

Can you give me an example of nature cloning?
I am not referring to plants. Thats a given. They dont exactly have sex
    I am referring to animals.

    Twin brothers are natural clones.

    Sea sponges reproduce by cloning.
Tapeworms have the power of cloning.
    Aphids
    Marmorkrebs
    Whiptail Lizards
Bacteria, the majority of fungi and many species of protists that reproduce asexually to produce genetic clones.
    Gall Wasps
Wasps and bees that engage in parthenogenesis

Make a clone then feed it the original to absorb its essence.

But those are lesser beings and most of the examples you gave are plants and hermaphrodites if I recall correctly.
There was nothing natural about this cloning process.
Also, as you pointed out, the reason for the cloning is disturbing even though we disagree on why its disturbing

Identical/monozygotic twins are natural clones. Nature creates clones all the time. Cloning is a natural thing. What we do is a natural thing, but not in a natural way, but that's okay, we have clothes, houses, transportation, extensive crops, telecommunications, etc. Those are all natural things done in our way.

I think there's nothing wrong with cloning, but I can't think of any valid reason to do cloning, except in agriculture and farming/cattle raising.

I think people have to learn to let it go. Your beloved pet died? Let it gracefully go. Give a chance to another pet. Show your heart is bigger than your wallet.

Why are you OK with the cloning of a hunting dog? To me, hunting dogs and pets are the same, I need both the same -- I don't need them at all.

They are only interested in what's on the outside, not what is on the inside. As long as the outside looks the same, they are fine with it.

No. That's a best friend, not a hero. A hero is someone who is seen as a criminal by another country.

i remember the case with sheep clone mollie or dolly(?)
the animal have short lifespan and died after contacted diseases that supposed to be only affecting old sheep.
i doubt the cat will live long even if they succeeded the cloning
