Cool novel I've decided to try my hand at translating. Really hard project but I think it's worth it. Author speaks English pretty well btw and he's veeery dedicated to his novel, so you can find him in the comments and all. He might even pass by here, who knows.
Despite the synopsis, the novel does have some humor and all. It's not edgy or super dark. You won't find the extremely gory descriptions of Dungeon Defense.
It tries to stay as realistic as possible but of course it takes some liberties at times when it comes to the story-telling.
MC isn't evil or edgy or a psychopath, he's a pretty cool guy, but still flawed. Even though he does get a bit more insane as the story goes on.

This is the place to sort of discuss the novel, but if you got any questions for me or the author, you can post them here, too.

    Synopsis
    (by me):
The simulation theory―― a theory that claims the world is a simulation program running on a computer.

When Kageyama, an engineer, was called by the owner of the computer running the simulation that is our world, and asked if he was willing to reduce the human population by more than half, the choice seemed obvious.

But that was before he realized a much harsher fate would be waiting for mankind if he refused.

So if the world is a simulation in a computer.
    Who is controlling the simulation?
How would THEY know they are also not in a simulation them selves?
That's just an infinite loop tbh

:hmm: It's tagged harem yet seems like it could be one of those pseudo-harems that are boring af. not sure if that would help or hinder the story :blob_tilt::blobawkward::blobconfused::blobconfused::cookie:

Doesn't hinder the story at all, trust me. It's not a forced harem. Don't want to spoil you though.

That's the whole basis of the simulation theory so, yup, they could be in a simulation themselves I suppose.

Is it a worthwhile harem that actually means something?

Well, the novel is not all that keen on romance if that's what you're asking. And it's not like every girl ends up in his arms or anything.
I really don't want to spoil it. The gist of it is that the center of the novel is the strategies used to reduce the population (but non that only, of course).
There is some romance but it develops through the whole story, progressively. Knowing the story takes place through many years, I'm just saying, it's not really going to follow common tropes in that regard.

Nah, that's not what i'm asking. That last bit does answer my concerns for now, though.

*me thinking the obvious choice is to agree* :blobhero:

"But that was before he realized a much harsher fate would be waiting for mankind if he refused."

    *me being disappointed*

I mean, how boring must the MC be to find it obvious to refuse such great powers offered to you by the God(computer owner) himself?!
Light Yagami surely would agree with me, the obvious choice is to agree!

Yup, that's why he didn't want to. He thought it would be too hard. 4 billion humans is a lot, plus it's a big responsibility.

To answer you further, not every female character will have no experience in life and be here just as love interests. I mean, one of them is 30 years old, what else would you expect?
The romance usually comes second, or is pretty subtle.
