Another +1 from me! I'm actually a translator and really want to pick up this one, but it's so difficult :'( all the Gracious Consort, Virtuous Consort stuff, my Chinese just ain't that good yet.

 

I logged in for the first time in months and came here specifically to request a translation pick-up for this novel!
The previous translator did an amazing job with this one in terms of the flow, grammar and ease of understanding and I am very, very hopeful that the next group/person to pick this up will retain that level of quality!!

 

Just commenting that this looks interesting! Might or might not pick this up... I'm quite worried about my skill though...

I want to pick up this novel to try and improve my Chinese. I'm familiar with the ancient Chinese setting and am fluent in English. The only thing is that I won't be able to guarantee regular updates and it would also be my first time translating...

I'm new to the translation scene. Is there a formal process for picking up novels? E. G. Like changing the status of this thread? Do I just go ahead and link my translation?

There isn't a formal process I know of for picking up a novel aside from making sure the previous translator no longer has a claim on it. In this case, the previous translator has publicly said that they're dropping it, so it's free for the taking. However, there is a pretty simple process for making sure that the translation updates get added to NovelUpdates, which is:

1) Make a Group (the name of your translation group): https://www.novelupdates.com/add-group/
2) Add a Release (whenever you put out a new release): https://www.novelupdates.com/add-release/

Novel Updates has an automatic tracker system that allows you to not bother with step #2, but I don't use it so I personally don't know what it is. My guess is that it's probably RSS.

Before making a group, though, you should get a website! You can start your own via Wordpress, or you can simply open an account with a webnovel hosting group like Wattpad, which will host your releases. The founder of NovelUpdates has a similar website called ScribbleHub, which I use - ScribbleHub is technically more for original novels, but they don't seem to mind translations being hosted there either, they're just not indexed in their system. Alternatively, you can join an existing translation group. This means that your translations will be posted on NU under their group name, and your translations will be hosted on their website. There are advantages and disadvantages to being in a group, and that's completely up to you.
