Is it just me, or in a lot of novels(and manga), the protagonist has a dead mother and missing father?(like fullmetal alchemist and attack on titan)

other bl novels I've read are similar too, like Legendary Master's wife and daily task of preventing disciple from turning to the dark side.

I'm choosing not to mention het novels or novels with female leads because all I remember is the parents dying altogether and scumbag relatives.

1.) why do so many people have such settings in their book?
2.) Do they want their parents to die?
3.) Do you think a novel centering around the thread title would be a good read?

It is easier to write a story without parents and siblings.

Maybe it's dead parents making the MC more independent. I could probably name a dozen manga like that off the top of my head. I remember almost no one having a mother in Bleach.

It's true, and it's the easiest way to get a story going and to give mysterious background to characters or an explanation as to why they're personality is so and so.

Easy fighting drive. Higher moral standing when MC decide to kill the relatives. Negate any abnormal finding surrounding the MC. Manage to skip 3 stage in week, must be because of the MC will to avenge his parents not because the mysterious ring that have an old man voice.

It’s easier, most novels garnered towards young adults have to have an independent character, and things become more complicated and harder to do and work around if the kid didn’t start off already alone and independent.

Parents would drag the story out and make it become boring as the kid struggles to earn his parents approval and all this crap which is honesty boring if you’re looking for something good.

Funny. I thought the mother was always missing, on account of coming from some super OP heritage and having eloped with the father, who is relatively powerless in the world and raised the MC mostly alone.
