In the year 2500, artificial intelligence (AI) is able to write original fiction, resulting in an explosion of stories freely available on the Internet. Stories are created faster than they can be read, and there is an extreme over-saturation of the fiction market. The primary method that AI writes fiction is by "mutation". Rather writing one story, it actually writes an entire tree of outcomes for every story. Consequently, a single "Harry Potter" story could have thousands of variants created through iteration. The "best" variant (as scored through multiple methods) is often presented to publishers for marketing, but all the variants are accessible online. The implication of this is that you could read a story -- decide you didn't like a plot detail -- and then backtrack and read a different variant of the story that suits your liking. For example, maybe you didn't like how Dumbledore died? Well, read a different variant of the story where he's alive! It's as easy a click of the button! ...How do you feel about this? 1. How do you feel about AI writing fiction? What about this tree-based writing method with many variants to every story? 2. Would you ever backtrack and read a different variant? Would you ever read a spin-off of a story after completing it? 3. Suppose that AI is also capable of writing stories with different starting parameters. Would you read "Harry Potter" with a Japanese MC or a female MC? Are there certain types of protagonists you would prefer to read? 4. Suppose that AI is also capable of inserting tags/genres into a story. For instance, a "romance" plot could be inserted, or even "cats". Are there certain tags/genres you would like to see in your stories? 5. How do you determine what the "original" story is when all variants in the tree are create/published at once? Would you simply read the most popular variant? How do you determine which variant to read when 5-6 different variants of the same story are popular and circulated on social media?
We would reach a true pinnacle in storymaking - the power to find the ending everyone is satisfied with. The next step would probably to expand the initial plotline to other characters. And when every character is a Main Character...
I don't doubt that AI can write fiction write now, but the bigger question is if it is good. xD We're missing some major breakthroughs in NLP and reading comprehension in computers. I don't think we will get genuinely good stories written by AI until there are computers that are good at understanding stories. Otherwise you would probably end up with a bunch of artificially generated plot drivel that is kind of rambling and pointless without some kind of engine for theme and narrative and cohesiveness.
I think AI is capable of writing original stories today itself. You won't need to wait for 2500. We are already entering in that age. Everyday in the back-end is already being slowly handled by AI. Through machine learning and with enough data I think it's possible for an AI to "learn" how to make stories. But in my view, it's a poor use of its abilities. There are a few things of which humans will always be capable of doing it 'better' then other, just like AI is capable of doing few things better. (Even Elon Musk admits that.) Writing is an art after all.
I think that is an easier task than writing a cohesive story comparable to your typical novel in a bookstore. PWP is well... it doesn't have a plot, so you could probably probably hash almost anything together and people would read it.
Not unless it is nonsensical as though written by an illiterate. Bloody hell with 2 litres of semen and a rod that pierce all the way to the throat... jesus. Jokes aside, I think that AI writing is just as the same as humans, considering how my workplace is filled with copy and paste people, like myself
So effectively a massive choose your own adventure story? 1. How do you feel about AI writing fiction? What about this tree-based writing method with many variants to every story? No problem with AI, but the tree-based writing would be horrible. The biggest part of reading that I enjoy is being able to connect with other readers. If everyone is reading different versions of the story how could they connect to discuss the story. 2. Would you ever backtrack and read a different variant? Would you ever read a spin-off of a story after completing it? I have before. there was a type of book published, a couple decades ago now, that allowed you to proceed with the story how you wished, and I had a few of them as a kid. 3. Suppose that AI is also capable of writing stories with different starting parameters. Would you read "Harry Potter" with a Japanese MC or a female MC? Are there certain types of protagonists you would prefer to read? Not really 4. Suppose that AI is also capable of inserting tags/genres into a story. For instance, a "romance" plot could be inserted, or even "cats". Are there certain tags/genres you would like to see in your stories? Yes, depending on what I feel like reading I would use different tags. 5. How do you determine what the "original" story is when all variants in the tree are create/published at once? Would you simply read the most popular variant? How do you determine which variant to read when 5-6 different variants of the same story are popular and circulated on social media? You wouldn't be able to. Original is only that because there are spin offs or fan fics. If everything is published at the same time there is no "original". I would read the ones that I would enjoy. I wouldn't care if it was popular or not.
It's whole point of struggle with a.i. vs humans. Humans are selfish and would support a.i. if it would bring them benefits even if it would hurt humanity as whole and lead to its demise.
Frankly this reminded me of the times where I created stupid accounts to join an online sex dungeon roleplay.
If A.I. were to reach that level, you could have the power of foresight. It would clash with other people wanting to make the "story" of their life and play it out as such. Would I read a interactive book with desirable outcomes? Yes. Rewritten stories? I wouldn't say they are necessarily needed, but sometimes I would have preferred to have a different gender playing the lead role or a prominent side one. I would probably read the other characters side of events too, but probably not if I finished the story already. In many stories, I would probably select the fantasy, sci-fi, magic, superpower, etc addition. Almost certainly a game elements aspect to it, which would actually be normal and limited to it's parameters. Original would be everything. From point 0. Would you have preferences of some aspects over other ones? Yes. Bur that would only give way to debate over whether your views are "correcter" or theirs.
3. Suppose that AI is also capable of writing stories with different starting parameters. Would you read "Harry Potter" with a Japanese MC or a female MC? Are there certain types of protagonists you would prefer to read? and 5. How do you determine what the "original" story is when all variants in the tree are create/published at once? Would you simply read the most popular variant? How do you determine which variant to read when 5-6 different variants of the same story are popular and circulated on social media? are technically already in the realm of video games...or if just interactive fiction .... stuff like this in a way already exists in systems and stories where you starting points/traits affects the end and intermediary flows....many of them are already heavily systematized ... soo this one isnt exactly a leap ... think for example Skyrim These aspects in particular might be more easier to automate and create variants and better AI results out of MUCH sooner than much else... and not 400+ years .. but more like 20-50 years if not earlier. Now you make a salient point, buuuuut, if we can design workflows for stories, enough of them like using tools like WorldAnvil (and seeing tons of samples there.), and use similar systems as to what go into videogames like skyrim .... I think we can jump a lot (not all) of the NLP requirements That point I want to highlight is, things that are already automated now and or can be systematized are ripe targets for ML to work on So we can probably automate and have the AI generate A LOT ...except for the really finer details and endpoints which might require human intervention in terms of QC and Editing
Dear Skynet, please write the true version of Potteru Hariハリー・ポッター and the Reign统治 of Dark LordPán zla HagridРубеус Хагрид.
1. How do you feel about AI writing fiction? What about this tree-based writing method with many variants to every story? We straight up have that right now. I've been playing through AI dungeon 2 recently and it's literally that. The only difference between it and the idea you have is how dreamlike the story becomes. 2. Would you ever backtrack and read a different variant? Would you ever read a spin-off of a story after completing it? Yeah, sometimes things are weird for no reason, so you just go back a bit. 3. Suppose that AI is also capable of writing stories with different starting parameters. Would you read "Harry Potter" with a Japanese MC or a female MC? Are there certain types of protagonists you would prefer to read? Oh yeah, this would entertain me greatly. I would have a lot of fun with it, and a lot of fun sharing the stories I find I like with other people. 4. Suppose that AI is also capable of inserting tags/genres into a story. For instance, a "romance" plot could be inserted, or even "cats". Are there certain tags/genres you would like to see in your stories? I would just switch it up to suit my mood, and just make sure to put a -NTR on the search so it never has any of that crap in it. 5. How do you determine what the "original" story is when all variants in the tree are create/published at once? Would you simply read the most popular variant? How do you determine which variant to read when 5-6 different variants of the same story are popular and circulated on social media? I wouldn't care. There is no original, just the version I like the best. Now, I guess I'll go play some ai dungeon for now. It looks like they've made it easier to access. https://play.aidungeon.io/
