I frequently come across hate comments on novels or YouTube videos or whatnot which attempt to be smart by saying why what the creator did was dumb or how they could have “realistically” done better. Maybe the argument is valid, I don’t know, but one thing that always invalidates their point in my head is the use of acronyms like, and especially, “smh”. I don’t know why, the phrase just projects a feeling of snobbish superiority from the comment to the point that it instinctively makes me want to dislike the person and by extension his argument. It makes it seem as if they see themselves as seperate from the rest of the consumers of whatever media they are using, that they are better than them, including the creator themselves. Just wanted to rant cause I am getting sick of my brain automatically marking arguments or opinions as moot because the person who said it used “smh”. Spoiler This is continuing from my rant about emojis in comments from a few months ago. Seriously, people need to stop using things that just make them sound stupid. Smh
Rather than use shorthand to describe my dislike for something, I prefer to use cliché metaphors and logical fallacies.
lol it's because the new gens and some old gens are forgetting the good old days of internet where if u dont like something u ignore it nowadays its common to bandtogether and make anti-camps and support camps lol
Almost liked this but then I saw that spoiler about emojis. You shall not denigrate emojis Edit: just saw your emoji thread and turns out I more or less agree with the point you made. I like emojis in general but excessive use makes a comment seem increasingly devoid of actual content. Also, that manga you linked, omfg XD never seen emoji used like that before lololol
I read smh as smack my head. I automatically assume that everyone who type smh is smacking their head literally or figuratively.
While I understand where you're coming from, it would be wrong to blame the whole abriviation using community. Your irritation is your problem and perspective, I respect that. But it's better to not stress over such insignificant things. You can't judge a person's character just because they were lazy for using abbreviations or whatever. I wouldn't call anyone snobbish for such a small thing, it's kind of bizarre for you to think so.
Maybe I'm a hermit or something cuz I haven't seen any use of smh in the past few months except for this thread. smh
