I'm personally not a fan of Broken Empire. To its credit it was fluidly written and did have an evil protagonist. The protagonist reminded me of protagonists in teenage fantasy books though and it was flooded with deus ex machinae and an obscene amount of luck. On top of that, it went all over the place throughout the trilogy. It almost feels like the author did it to compensate for the further predictable and unremarkable story. The whole shebang broke my immersion and I dropped it ... halfway the third book. It's cheesy and the plot is iffy, but at least it's unapologetic and reads like a train. 6.5/10 I have heard Glen Cook's The Black Company series is quite gritty, though the first book is a slog to get through and I dropped it (also because real life happened). I do plan to one day properly read The Black Company.
I only readed a couple of chapters of this novel but I am pretty sure the protagonist is really evil Tower of Karma
