You've played a PC / Console / Handheld game, Yes?
how do you name your character?
    what about your turf/farm/guild/fortress?
Share on how you determine what their names.

I am writing to give myself online renown and presence, and my current biggest writing block was somehow coming up with the name for my characters and stage/place of the story act.

sometime after I was done naming them I cringed for their "exotic" result, be it name taken from dictionary or name that was mashing up words randomly.

just how did other authors named theirs and end up with cool awesome names?

I'm actually asking how would you determine how to name your characters, (is it a variation of your IRL name, or profound words, etc) and what kind of name would you think as "cool" enough to use and be repeatedly used by the NPC.

Of course, there are some people who name their avatar (ex. pokemon games MC) as penis or something and derived amusement when the NPC says something like hey, penis, let's battle!

If the game is offline I just use my name.
If the game is online I have a go to name that is never used. I've been using it for around 15 years now and it's always free to use when I start.

If you mentioned that, you should include the second worst name ever given to a Gundam character :
    Jamitov Hymen

For naming... IDK, most of the time I used made up names, using pig latin-ish or greek-sounding words. You can consider it as a not-so-pro-tip; using made up names from similiar sounding words to a foreign language you barely know.

Of course, always double check it if it's actually means anything that completely off from your intended fictional meaning... Or you'll ended up like what most Z/ZZ Gundam characters had.

For the names of your characters think of their character, their personality, history, dreams and so on and based on that choose a name that fits them or not if you want a contrast.

Most often, I'll use either my real name or nickname (Loni/Loni4ever) or sth that has to do with the character I picked. Like e.g. when I was playing Skyrim with a Khajiit, I named her Neko-chan xD in the vast majority of cases, it's the former though.

I can't remember what I usually name my turf/farm/guild/fortress cause it's been some time... ah wait. There's this game I'm playing where I created a team with the name "Seagulls". I chose that name cause in a book series I read, that was the name of the main crew made up of outsiders, who in the end managed to surpass the other teams by thinking outside the box and working together
In the first game with settlements I remember playing, I named my settlement "Little Gold" :blobmelt:

So well, it seems there are usually several theme options when I name stuff

Imagine shouting those words IRL, or imagining to be playing in VRMMO where face can't be changed or disguised...
    So honest.
A: hey, man, what's your castle name?
    E: mah big castle.
    A: ...that's nice.
imagining myself using that kind of naming method...
    haha, I'm a shy person. I don't dare, man,
it's normal though. it didn't even feel chuuni.
Have you ever felt... ticklish, or sort of when the game character used your name?
Dating Sim Game: oh, zomula... I... I have loved you since a long time ago
Xianxia Action Drama Game what have you: you killed my father! and my mother too! and my chicken and dog too!
    Porn:.....oh, Harder!!!

Just name what you feels like works with the theme and genre, or mash up some names as you see fit

You could name them based on their supposed characteristics? If it is a quiet girl you could call her Serene for example, or find names that respond to their character/attribute in name dictionary or other languages.

You could also pick a theme for all the characters and expand from there. For example, all characters have French sounding names (or just surnames) cos that’s how it is in the place they live in, or that they all share a certain characteristics in the names since they came from same tribe (e.g. every name starts with a vowel followed by apostrophe like E’llna, U’rdus, A’yre, O’wyra)

Lots of fun rules you can impose
