Can't make up my mind about which I like best. But the most life-changing one was undoubtedly this.

Since manga is included, I will say 'Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor'

Lord of the rings trilogy JRR Tolkien - hobbits, dwarves, elves, rings. Awesome books and movies.

The shining, misery - Stephen king - about the caretaker of a haunted hotel who slowly loses his mind and goes after his families lives.

Labyrinth - Kate mosse - about the past and present life of the mc.

The Dresden files - Jim butcher - about a private investigator wizard. 16 books released so far in this series I think. Maybe more~

There’s too many web novels I like. But having not completely read the majority of them I’ll hold back on listing them as the best novels~

    Bartimaeous trilogy.
As I get older, Harry Potter lose its charm, this one though.. fantasy western magic. Comedic undertone, as the main character really sarcastic and funny. This is book that I read the online version, also bought the physical book to be collected!
And there's a fourth book, that tell the story about

Coiling dragon had the biggest influence over me, it was the very first Chinese novel I read, it spiraled from there.

Walk to remember, read it on a long continental flight in one go, was trying not to cry out loud. Sometimes it’s good to cry.

usually I prefer comedies, like Skip Beat! manga. Plot, characters, drawings, humor... it got it all.

Naming the best for me will need a long journey in to my mind but if I have to list one, it would have to be the novel that pulled me into this never ending relationship Renegade Immortal.

The Name of the Wind written by Patrick Rothfuss, in which an innkeeper in the middle of nowhere tells his lifestory
The Dark Forest written by Liu Cixin, wherein some passages never really left my mind
Roadside Picnic written by A. & B. Strugatsky, for it has the most interesting take on extraterrestrial lifeforms on earth I have come across up to now

If I had to pick a favorite
    I guess...
Faith of the fallen: Sword of truth series by Terry Goodkind

The rest of the series isn't even in my top 20 individually but I found this book in particular to be exceptionally good. It's basically learning that your views may be skewed by lack of knowledge or by past experience and unless you are willing to continue to grow and understand then you'll never win against either your own evils or others. Also it has a socialism = decay, death message throughout.

Now I want to reread it after thinking about it lol

    Novel:
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar (minimal use of plot armor, quite realistic hence lots of tragedy)
Knights & Magic (and Manga, the anime disappoints)
Akuyaku Reijo Ni Koi Wo Shite

    Manga:
    Usagi drop (and anime)
Cross game (and anime, most Adachi Mitsuru's work are decent but mostly sport-heavy)
Devil & Devil (decent story and twists but very unique setting IMO)

    Honorable mentions:
Skip beat! (Manga, decent story and romance)
Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor (Manga, decent story with unique setting)
Sevens (novel, some parts are boring for me)

    That's all for now

I agree about the first two. Especially Akuyaku Reijo. Since the TLer took it off NU, readers don't see the releases. Usagi Drop is a rather controversial choice though. The first half is great, but the second takes the Uchi no Musume route.

For me, my top choices are:
    Underrated:
    Index
    DenYuuDen
    Spirit Vessel

    Too Short:
    Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes

    Unfinished:
    Kaze no Stigma
    Dungeon Hunter

I just picked up Spirit Vessel and find it hilarious, but it seems many people dislike how flawed the MC is. I feel the others just get passed over, either because their endings are less than ideal or they were too short to pick up traction on the releases page.

Actual novel series? Legend of Drizzt with no contest. It and Abhorsen were what defined fantasy for me.

Webnovel? Lord of the Mysteries has proven to have few equals.

Let me see...Since this is NU after all, I will focus only on JP, CN and KR novels.

    Visual Novels:
Umineko - when it comes to choosing the best eastern story I have ever read, Umineko comes to my mind nearly instantly. Those who knows it will understand, and it useless to explain to those who don't.
Dies Irae - I was never a fan of opera ;), but this one is an exception. Without the doubt the best Chuuni story I have read and lets be honest, chuuni is stuff is why people begun watching anime in the first place.
Soukou Akki Muramasa - the most Japanese visual novel ever. A perfect deconstruction of heroes genre, something that is quite needed in the modern time when MCU dominates culture.
Steins;Gate - best time traveling story ever.

    Manga
Death Note - do I even need an explanation?

    Novels on NU:
Fate/Zero - same as Death Note.
Pursuit of the Truth - my personal favorite cultivation novel. Most misunderstand it because first 200-300 chapters are very deceptive. Honestly, it was the only CN that I ever felt any emotional attachment and it felt like a breath of fresh air after reading dozens of other cultivation novels.
