There was a research that showed that majority of girls aim for top 10% of males even if they(girls) are plain average at best. Edit: I couldn't find the link, but as far as I remember it was showing that males had realistic perception of girls, where the least was not good looking and hotties, and the peak was around average. And girls perception of males was something like 80-90% are ugly and 10% are good. Also I'm not sure about the population involved in that research. All I can say it was an american source, so take that into account.
