    Check out Flower for Algernon.

That book's premise makes it so it's written in a ridiculous manner at first, but the writing/grammar/narration just get better and better as the story progresses.

Seeing that progression will help you understand what really matters when you're writing.

Anyone else have good book suggestions to help beginners?

this isn't something you recommend to a beginners....since they don't have any idea if the grammar is correct or not, you will only confuse them more (specialy with easily misinterpreted language as english)....

It's also not a good story for people looking for a happy ending.

By beginners I meant people who want to start writing and translating. People who know English 'theoretically' but don't know the rules.
As for the grammar part, I recall the protagonist points outs those changes. But it's been a while since I last read it, so I might be completely wrong.

''Flowers for Algernon'' is a poignant fiction novel that has been banned and challenged all over the United States due to its sexually explicit nature.

    Wut?

There are many versions of the story, but in one of the versions (the 'main' version) the MC kind of... well, I won't spoil anything.
They're technically not wrong, but they're really exaggerating.

Haven't read it but from what i know about the story, I don't think it would be a good idea to read it.

Schools don't want kids to read books where the main character has sex.

The short story is good, too. It's a much shorter read.
