Whats your website comment policy?

Mine used to be until a few minutes ago:

You have your whole life to be a jerk, why not take today off

and then something about commenting on translation quality
but I still got a lot of jerks, so I changed it to

Be very nice

Maybe people will get it this time since it is not so long

 

How about: if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all...

Wait, do you mean internet in general or leaving comments on translators' sites? I'm unsure cause this is in the novel, not the general section

This planet consist of stupid people, they will never stop being a jerk. Whatever you write, these people will not read it because they are too stupid.
Its like teaching a pig how to sing.... It will never work and you will annoy the pig.
Just accept the fact they are there for you to BBQ... I meant consume your translation....

In general: I try to be nice and understanding; formulate things clearly to leave less room for misunderstandings; try to always be polite unless I'm joking and I think the other person can take the joke; use expressions like "I think/mean/feel", "it seems", "apparently", "in my opinion" cause as a general rule, you're

Translation websites: same as general + no spoilers should go without saying + if possible, for new releases always write a "thanks for the chapter" comment with one or more additional thoughts on the chapter to show appreciation and gratitude~

 

No more comments allowed due to people spamming 'first'.

 

I don't know which is worse, not having anyone comment on your site or only receiving hate comments XD.
Which is why the good thing about owning a site is that you can delete comments without shame. I mean, hey, your site, your rules. If people can't follow 'em, chuck it in the trash. Don't let their negativity affect you because trash will be trash~

 

If not nice comments bothers you that much then disable comments? The internet is full of all kind of people, if you really want to be serious then you should accept this fact and live on. If a stranger (a completely unknown person that you never met and doesn't know you at all) on the street yells at you that you are a bad cook, would you care for its opinion?

I only really comment on spelling mistakes and punctuation errors. Sometimes I'll post a pic of something mentioned in the chapter.

Somewhat of a pain tbh.
Some comments are just brutaly honest, and there is nothing wrong with that per se. Sure, its harsh but you know it goes: Nothing hurts more than the truth. If it looks like a moron and talks like a moron, then it most likely is a moron. Freedom of speech is not freedom from getting smacked for shit talking. On the other hand homophobia, racial slurs and other garbage is not necessary to critique something.

I actually need to make a solid comment policy and post one up.

So far I've been skirting on the be civil in the comments section and if you see a grammar issue or broken link just let me know.

 

Commenting on a translator's site is like tipping your waitress/waiter in a restaurant. If you got good service, you leave a nice comment and a monetary tip. However bad service will often get a penny in an upturned glass in the hardest to reach location on the table.
