I mean, yes the MCs always survive so they fall under the traditional classification of “happy ending.” Then you look at all the screwed up events that happened, as well as all those side characters who died miserably.... Basically, IMO for an ending to feel happy to me, it has to be at least equal in happiness to the most heartwarming section of the story. Instead most of these novels have a very happy and cute section near the beginning and middle. Then depressing tragedy starts crashing down over and over... and of course the climax is invariably an awful horrifying disaster that requires massive sacrifice to stop.
There are actually several paragrahps on his name right at the start of the 4th chapter. It's ... basically an in-joke that got out of control. And the point of him being so sweet and unassuming was exactly that - because the way he behaved meant nobody suspected him. That was the whole point of it.

I'm not. I'm completely new to the Chinese dramas. I found The Untamed on Netflix while on leave. While searching for the English version of the novel to read, I came across the news of this movie. I thought I would tackle both novels while I still have so much time on my hands.
