I'd assume he figured whoever framed her would come to finish the job to cover up what they did, so he might have given her the knive so she can defend herself or maybe escape. He probably underestimated her desperation and overestimated their relationship and her understanding of his love for her
I completely believe that. Since this story is written in the perspective of his daughter his behavior screams "I hate you" and "fuck off." There is no appropriate scolding going on; for example, I would not like you to go out with that guy because he is making act inappropriately as a princess and as a father I have that much expectation of you. If he actually had a proper conversation and communicated even the bare minimum things wouldn't have turned out the way they did in the 1st life.

So he used the opportunity she is oblivious to his true identity to get closer to her and prove he is not scary. After a while he knew she got the purpose of the list wrong. But he still liked the idea of her becoming him empress in the future, so he still kept the secret to convey her he will never harm her. he even start to send secret letters to her as the prince assuring her he will never kill her...that's what made her more scared. There was a party held by a nobel family she decide to attend and try to find a partner but couldn't since the stupid daddy banned every single man who is not qualified from reaching her even a young Nobel son she invited him to be her partner, visited him at a late hour to threatened him HE IS NOT QUALIFIED TO BE WITH HIS DAUGHTER. The poor man came at the next day shaking to apologise to her IN PERSON he can't be her partner. she accept his apology and invite him for some tea. He was about to accept but suddenly felt his life would be in danger, he pardoned himself and fled the house. Regies shows himself after his leave and comfortably sets in his place to have tea with her Anyway she ended up inviting her dad not ever expecting him to approve but to her surprise he did so she regretted her request immediately. In the party after arriving and wondering here and there she took a break in the garden- thanks to "someone" who garded the entrance himself it was empty- but Max was there he saw her tears he thought she was crying but she was sleepy and tired he reach to her and ask who made her crying!! she questioned in herself what is he doing here but thought he had some connections. She came with her foot hurting as an excuse to her tears- it's true it hurts her- He bent down to have a look, she saw a tree leave on his hair so she removed it for him. At that moment Regies came to check on her and thought they were hugging. He got furious because this brat is hugging her while him her dad never hugged her! HOW DARE HE!!! he went to them asking what they are doing with rage in his eyes at Max-Jubil of course thought it was directed at her- any way he immediately snatched her into his arms to hug her. She panicked from his behaviour and got confused. Max explained to him about her foots. Without a moment of hesitation, he carried her and went through every eyes to the carriage so she could rest in her bed. After some days she meets max at some market and came up with contract relationship idea with him so she could run away from the prince. He approved ofcourse and went to her house with her to ask for permission to date....the knights who were escorting her had their eyes glaring at him all the time but couldn't open their mouth. After they came to his office and asked his permission they got his refusal in 00.0001 of second. OMG this part was hilarious because you got to read it from mc's pov and then the dad pov. I DIED! He is thinking the prince came to his daughter to make him support him! LIKE HIS DAMN FATHER!! he used his sensitive and cute baby girl for his impure deeds! NEVER!! he wouldn't allow his daughter goting herself involved with the dirty royal family! While on the other hand mc's real goal is to break the marriage with prince so she could enjoy her father wealth and became his heir. He threatened Max if he date his daughter he won't teach him anymore. Max stand up and took Jubilian's hand to leave his office- go to hell in other words- mc panicked bc this not what they agree on so she break in tears in front of him to approve them...you imagine Regies' pov after seeing her tears. He approved for now but the cold war between Regies & Maximiliam start!! some funny part of thier relationship after the war start, In a party was held by the princess to honor those who went to war. Max in his armor was keeping an eye on Mc he noticed her chatting with a girl happily, and every man who try to ask her for a dance immediately retreat even before saying hello thanks to Regies' glare. But when a man approached the girls and didn't withdraw he panicked and rushed to them....he got surprised the man asked her friend for a dance not her. He look at his teacher and the later didn't miss the chance to mock him with his dirty look and laugh at him xD. I can't write any more of this I need sleep

When she was crying alone our mc noticed her and came to her for comfort-she didn't know she is the princess-. And Regies himself after some indecent-that seemed bad-when she was child she lost her memory and stopped call him daddy "아빠". and things got complicated after bc he always had to stay with that coward since he threatening him through her. In the princess adulthood party things "finally" got clear for Jubilian. After some doubts she confirms Max is the prince and while dancing she said they had to talk. Max really got shocked bc she's dull but he knew now his relationship with her is in danger. When he saw his eyes towards them-while dancing- it was full of greed. He know what was going through his mind. while going back with mc all what he was thinking about is how to torture him and stab him...do all bloody things. Mc didn't know how to get close with him. She asked help from her new friend Rose who told her to just call him daddy and everything will go smoothly after. Mc's fear of rejection rise again since she is 17 now and will be adult after two months. how the hell she call him daddy in this age? But when she saw him with Max having a one sided fight- Regies hit the hell out of him- She called him daddy "accidentally". Regies reaction wasn't what she expected, he got confused and ask desperately if she remembered-the above incident-. When he saw her confused look he gave her a soft smile and "never mind". Now mc knows for sure he never rejected her and it was all in her imagination. She asked him if she really can call him daddy. he answered she can called him whatever she wants. As I understand it from the spoilers(edited, before it said novels xd), the Prologue where MC died DIDN'T HAPPEN in reality. It was a scene depicted from the novel. So this is not a "rebirth to past", this is a "reincarnated to a novel". So about the father sending MC into a jail and she suicide later, that happened in the novel, but is yet--and will not--happen in realtime chronology of the story because a R!MC appeared.
