I've been contemplating whether to get an E-Reader or to go get a tablet to read novels.
Which would be the better choice?

An ereader is the better choice if you're planning just to read traditional. Tablets are faster of you plan on browsing the internet to read too.

Personally I go with ereaders for the eink screen, not as much eye strain from long periods of time, and most things I want to read have a epub or mobi option (or even pdfif I'm in a pinch).

I've never had anything but problems with e-readers, so I would go tablet.

    Something's wrong with you.

An e reader is much less versatile but certainly gives a better reading experience. But still, i'd go for tablet.

If you move around quite a bit, e reader definitely since it's waaay better reading epubs, pdfs, and other offline text files.

I'm reasonably certain that a good tablet can do absolutely everything an "ereader" can do, which sounds suspiciously like a wannabe tablet made specifically to read books on, sacrificing the flexibility of a real tablet in exchange for a reduced price. Probably not as reduced as it should be, though, because the phrase "you get what you pay for" doesn't account for overcharging.

In other words, get the ereader. It's probably cheaper, and you don't actually need a tablet for anything.

E-reader if you're planning to read in batches. Tablet if you plan to mostly read things online and you're up to date with most of the novels you follow.

Tablet. It makes it easier to read different versions of novels. For example if you want to mtl a novel or are reading an online novel. Then downloading is more convenient too.

First of all, if you're able to, make sure the novels you want to read is available in epub/mobi format. If you can't, then go for tablet+internet.

If you do have it in epub/mobi, it depends on your situation while on the road; if you ONLY want to read, go for eReader (you don't need to care about battery life for most of the time). If you also want to access the internet/gaming (separated from your phone), go tablet (might need to recharge along the way).

A cellphone can do everything you need though.
Just make sure you have mobile data or pocket wifi.

E-readers are good if you want less strain on your eyes + longer battery life. That's about it.

I bought both and never ended up using my tablet so I gave it away. I use my phone the most when I'm not on my pc since I never forget to take it with me.

I have a spare tablet at home, but I've never used it. I thought I'd use it for reading, but ever since I started reading on my phone ~5yrs ago, I've never looked back.
It's just more convenient. I always have it with me so I can read whenever I feel like it. It doesn't weigh as much and I don't need to remember to take additional cords whenever I'm traveling.
I actually like the narrow screen - be it reading paper books or something on a wider screen, I've always found jumping from the line's end to next line's beginning kinda bothersome... That ceased to be a problem on a phone.

All you really need it an app that works for you. I'm using Moon+ Reader. It's got great customization.
The feature that attracted me to the app is scrolling. Most apps only let you switch entire pages, like paper books or e-readers would, but scrolling is just way more convenient. I can basically look at (for example) the top 1/3rd of the screen and just scroll the text, never needing to go to the bottom of the screen and back to the top again.

I hear you. Phablets all the way. I had a tablet before that I specifically bought for reading..... I never used it and I read alot. As long as the phone is decent sized, I'm good.
