Due to recent event , it is not the virus that is deadly but the lack of commodities as people stockpile.

Have you already bought weeks worth of food and water?

I live in a tornado prone area. It's advised to have at least a week's worth of food and water in case of storm caused outages. Also have a generator. Water is rarely disrupted, so it's more seasonal on water amount. Plastic is porous to water, so ya gotta refresh annually.

The farther away from cities, the more you should stock. Outages last longer.

I guess I should mention too that my stock is properly protected. I'm armed to a higher extent that most Canadians, but I guess I don't hold a candle to american personal firepower. I'm in a rural area after all.

Just prepped moderately for a minimum of a week worth supply. From my personal experience here.
The army would always need more hands in disaster or similar conditions and they'll recruit people with skills with priority starting with 1) medical specialist 2) mechanics, builders, engineer and 3) rescue and special skill such as scuba divers, pilots, electricians. Make sure to make some plans where you involves them because it'll be always safest in and around them.

I have a week's worth of food, tops.

As for water? Uhn... I doubt I'll ever face water shortage, so I don't worry about that one at all. I don't have enough storage even for a day.

Ai-chan keeps at least 2 weeks of supplies at home at all times. Due to the stories of Nanjing people dying of starvation in their homes after having their doors welded shut by China's government, Ai-chan decided to push the supplies pile up to a full month. Next month it will be pushed up to 2 months, just so that Ai-chan's panic buying doesn't ruin the market. The month after that, stockpile will be increased to 4 months.

It's best to panic buy before people actually panic buy because when a lot of people do it at the same time, that's when the market collapse. If it's just you alone doing it, nobody cares. Your family matters. This is the time to be selfish because it's your own fault when your children can't eat when food gets scarce.

So if zombie apocalypse doesn't happen, Ai-chan's family will be eating a lot mackerels for half a year.

I've got enough of everything I'd need to fully supply two people for 6 months in medicine, food, water, etc. I live in a city so I wouldn't try hold here if worst came to worst. I would simply take my things, go gather the family members in the city and we will go north to our family home. At home we have enough weapons, food, medicine, tools, etc to sustain more than 20 people for a year. Our stores are regularly updated and everyone contributes to the upkeep. Our family territory is in a rural area and we've held it since the 1700s-1800s iirc so we're not worried about anything short of having to face off against an army.

Edit: This thread made me realize I should probably think about buying a boat.

We used to have prep emergency supplies in our hiking bags for earthquakes. Now that I moved, I only keep weekly groceries since we live in a relatively "safe" area (no floods). I'll probably stock up a bit more before hurricane season but we might just take the chance to travel during that time too.

I’m not gonna lie. It’s real strange to me to actually be worried about food shortages, and even have stockpiles. I keep only 3-7 days at home at any time. Mostly cause I eat out at restaurants a lot but still >.>

If I were to ration what we have, it could last at most a week. Though this is assuming there's power as most of it is perishable, or requires preparation. None of it was bought with emergencies in mind.

Habit and self-sufficiency. My ancestors killed and died a lot to protect our lands. We honour them by retaining the skills they passed down to us. It's a good thing to be prepared and able to live off the land. I'd hate to have no skills, stores or physical ability to survive or help others.
