There was this program I used to clean some of those, like in 2015 or so. AdWare Cleaner or something like that. Don't know if it's still working, but it was free and effective

When you run malware bytes make sure you turn on root kit scans as well. Sometimes adware is installed so deep into your system it will reinstall itself. Key things to note, start using adblockers (several) and stop downloading random files from the internet. If you do those things you wont have any adware in the first place.

It's already embedded into your browser. You must've installed something to your browser like Hola or something similar. If you think the ads are bad, the app prob uploaded your cookies, or passwords too... Just beware and clean it up asap.

Browser is probably a lost cause. Uninstall it, delete any remnant files or folders, reinstall clean.

Malwarebytes is nice, give a whirl just in case, too.

But in the future, just don't install random addons, don't visit shady sites (and I'm actually *not* talking about the highly reputable and totally safe porn sites, I'm talking about actual malware and scam sites), and use a decent adblocker. uBlock Origin, for example.

Check your addons/ extensions for browser. Sometimes, a software can install that without your knowing. Even less harmful but annoying extensions for sites like yahoo search for overriding google are installed that way.

Get a browser/ PC checkup. Go to malwarebytes. Check with your windows defender if any software has raised any alerts.

Keep your windows defender on; get a better antivirus which can monitor network traffic. The free AV versions often get bypassed by malware, they don't offer comprehensive protection either. Even if they're well-known or "recommended" free versions like AVG. They aren't dependable. Get a properly and full-functioning AV, with network and browser monitor like Kaspersky or Bitdefender.
If something can install malware on your PC, tamper with your browser, know that it's a few steps away from collecting your sensitive data.

What browser are you using? More than likely, it is something simple like an addon/extensions. Check your extensions.

Is it just a specific site, or all sites you visit?

If it's a specific site, chances are it's one of those "invisible overlay interstitial" ad linkers(I have no idea what they are called). They essentially create invisible overlay on the entire page that directs you to shady ads when you try to interact with the page, some sites have these and ublock works on them.

If it's all or nearly all sites, it's a virus that has prob compromised your browser.

    Ads aren’t viruses.

    So are pop-up ads.
