Have you guys been following this story lately? It started off with this tweet: https://twitter.com/bbq_bq/status/1238152877022957569 https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2020/...ntent-creators-for-japanese-style-art/105048/ I figure this is important since many anime fans read web novel, light novels, mangas, and even use images in comment all the time. There's also the question of artworks in novels, and original fanart giving Patreon an excuse to ban the account as well. For example, this artwork is enough to get the account banned:
Seems like subscribe star is about to get more members P.s. not surprised. Patreon started the purge long ago since they began banning by political views of a creator.
That they don't want to break laws in some countries makes sense, hence why they are removing any links to underage people to not be affiliated with it. The latter part is rather stupid, "short hair in a japanese art style indicates that they are younger perhaps even underage therefore banned regardless of anything" (paraphrased).
I's blasphemy againts short hair, there no inducation that short hair = under age. My mother hair also short
"big head, big eyes, and short height can make the characters look younger." Damn.. I guess no more chibis there huh..? Also I'm absolutely hating that site, that video ad? kept trying to play while I'm reading
These people are hilarious though, bunch of people on a forum getting into a fight because someone talked about waifus and he didn't know what it was and assumed it was sexist. Another guy says 'japs' for short-hand and gets jumped on for being a racist despite not being offensive and mentioning he didn't know the 'slur'. This whole 'woke' thing is like people feeling superior because they came out of the matrix but they forgot to take their pills.
lol wtf Patreon? Why are they so willing to lose such a market? This is so... stupid lol ah, at least it's good to know they are going to lose a lot of money that's what I call shooting at your own feet I was going to become a guy's patreon but not anymore! Who cares if I won't read advanced chapters? I refuse to let such a stupid platform get a cent of my money!
I'm not sure why people are surprised, as sites get bigger they need to get more bland to make more money. Small companies make their money supporting niches, big companies give up those niches to try to get generic ass users. Don't worry, some other new companies will popup to support your near-pedo art demand. Then 5 years later will also backstab it if they think they can get more money.
I mean, their actions are understandable. Adult men fapping to/salivating over characters that look like jailbait doesn't look good even if that jailbait isn't 'real'. Its like lolicon porn of kids under 10 on nhentai. Is it legal? Yes. Do I want it on my platform? Hell no.
Not surprised, patreon has been banning a lot of things. And its up to patreon how they decide to do so. Do i like the fact that patreon is banning content creators, no. But its not illegal and currently its thier right to choose what is on thier platform.
The good thing to come out of this is the emergence of more competitor for the same market space as it gives more options for the consumer, which is always a good thing. For example, I'm so glad Wacom now have competitions from Huion and XP-Pen. The same with the whole TWS Bluetooth Earbuds. I don't know if there's any competitor for PayPal, and I'm too lazy to find out. Don't even get me started about NA's internet and mobile services....
I read it, and them banning "Japanese style", but I think you are confused if you think they care about the differences between that and near-pedo art. They are grouping it all together because in the end it won't cost them that much money, it doesn't matter in the slightest if you think they are separate categories. To them it's all one big group and your feels don't matter. Again my point about them shutting down niches because it's not as profitable as eventually pandering to the majority if they want to get bigger.
Pfffft, either you are pretending you read it or you really lack reading comprehension~ Because this is certainly not the issue here. Nobody is complaining about losing a source of near-pedo art demand, they're complaining about losing a source of art simply because it's using the style of anime~
No, the issue here is you think they are separate and Patreon doesn't. Date-A-Live as an example is a near-pedo anime in the minds of many corporation decision makers. It deals with the dating and romance of teenagers, and even has things like beach fan service. Almost all art of underage characters qualifies in their mind. It doesn't matter what you or I think, they group it all as one. They might back down for a little while but eventually they will purge it just like YouTube demonetizes far left creators like Amazing Atheist and far right like Steven Crowder. Patreon is doing the same because they have started to chase the big bucks. Personally I like Date-A-Live, but I'm not in denial on how the general public in both the US, and Japan feel about much of anime/manga.
