Question Why some novel have racism?

If the world has no other race, only one color, one gender, one mind then there will be no racism.

Asia was The Old World. With the geographical vastness of the land, people will obviously develop unique cultures. These differences can lead to either assimilation or friction.
Earlier Chinese Kingdoms especially those around the Yellow River basin had been pretty closed off when it comes to its neighbors, for security concerns( of course not trade). Chinese used to see themselves as the middle point of earth and rest were all 'barbarians'; the mentality which has stuck for quite a while now. Then there were the World Wars and their reasons.
There is no one who doesn't judge others, be it on the basis of religion , gender, nationality, ethnicity etc.
It isn't always due to past. People just want to find a justifiable reason to find a moral high-ground.

The problem is people discriminate. People should evolve their brains a bit to become a better version of themselves. ( Maybe Clone themselves, like in 'Living with Yourself' TV)

everyone is a bit xenophobic but the Chinese take it to another level, and it's not just about other Asians. Westerners are all stereotyped in their novels. Europeans are all rich and decadent and Americans are either evil, greedy or stupid, but usually all of the above. black people are often singled out and are always thugs or mentally incompetent. hell, even sci-fi aliens are only good enough to be lowly vassals, if they're not Zerg.

History has shaped their perception of the world. I'm not gonna delve into the communist ideology now, kind of a long talk, but that's mostly where the patriotism and brainwashing comes from. They hide and manipulate information that can damage the state's image, and control their own people. The indoctrination and the censors lead to a lot of the nationalism you see in novels lol.

You can get a very extensive answer depending on how interested you are in history and politics. I haven't seen Chinese racism against Koreans so far in the novels I've read. They usually give S.Korea as example for idol culture and beautified women and men. Maybe they'll look down on the prettiness of the boys sometimes, saying that masculine is better, like their army bois. Japan is like their national villain, so I rarely see a novel where you don't get a Japanese villain/s arc.

Once you delve into a country's history and politics, things start looking ugly. It's because human nature is the same everywhere and at any time. They can be both the victim and the aggressor and the best we can do is be decent individuals.

 

Yeah, as a Chinese myself, I don't really mind the nationalism and patriotism, but the racism propaganda is really getting out of control.
The younger generation luckily able to think more critically, but still a majority of them are blinded to an extreme level of racism. The hatred level is no joke.

 

But thats just it though. Stories should be stories and not concern themselves with geopolitics. I don't want to read about indoctrinated chinese hatred especially in fantasy settings. Sure the Japanese were awful in the war. But I don't see the japs preaching hatred against the americans everywhere for wiping out two entire cities.

The main character in OEM is even more ridiculous. He equates Japan to some random demon race (which are incest loving ugly savages with 2 heads etc). He literally hops up and down with rage not because this race is evil but because it reminds him of Japan. Its the constant reminders across the majority of literature in the over the top manner that irritates people. It's not even written well.

Honestly I could rant about this for ages, but for me the problem is not the racism but the raging hypocrisy that it shows. The MC in these novels is more likely to be stabbed in the back then suffer from these 'enemies'. The funny thing is, if you ignore the physical descriptions the characters and mannerisms are almost always just clones of previous enemies so the racism is just shoehorned in. Whether its because the chinese computer police make sure of this, or because its in the mindset of every author I have no idea.

 

Why not? Almost everyone is racist. Ask anyone how he feels about gypsies and if he would say ok, then either he don't know who gypsies are or he 99% lying.

As a Korean, I don't hate Japanese people, but their government I do not like. They killed of the last of our Royal family and massacred and treated Koreans worse than the Holocaust. They killed a lot more people and did a lot more horrible things to the Chinese and Koreans. Other countries think the Holocaust is the worst thing but it's just because they don't care much about Asian history.
Japan has also tried to claim sea water and islands from Korea forcefully and have taught their younger generation that it is actually theirs.
They claim that the massacre never happened and that the sea and islands are theirs, they've never apologized either. And quite a number of people there have prejudice and harbor dislike to Koreans, although it's gotten better.
So, can you understand now?

Unfortunately, hypocrisy seems to be almost inherent in human nature. There are those SJWs who preach against child pornography while being pedophiles themselves. There are NPCs who took over an industry then kicked out anyone who could actually do something from that industry telling them that if they don't like it to make their own and once they do the NPCs try to destroy it or if the industry that was taken over is failing would try to get in the newly created one. The Chinese people or rather the government hated the Japanese because of Nanking Massacre with 50,000 - 300,000 casualties when they themselves have done even worst to hundred thousands to millions of their own people (beating, rape, murder, slavery and forced organ harvesting). The west accusing China of censorship when they are also doing the same thing. Women who claim to be rape victims when they were the one who initiated it ruining people's lives or saying that they need special privileges just because they are women while preaching that woman can do whatever a male could. Those are just some of the few I could remember, pretty sure there are countless more that can be found with some internet searching.
