Great Tang Idyll - I only started reading this one but it looks promising as long as you ignore the slightly unrealistic beginning. It's about the male MC and female MC who were reincarnated into the Tang dynasty. Deuteragonists.
I like reading books like this but they don't really get translated. In general historical novels don't have that many readers so translators tend to avoid this genre. The only exception are the Romance novels with female protagonists, but those are generally fake to begin with. I can give you titles of really good books but you'd have to read them in Chinese. Is it fair to say that either of these books have a good romance?
Kind of. The romance is a subplot but they are built up really well as companions. This review puts it best: Spoiler ...she's been there with the male MC for the entire time, it really helps build up the feeling of companionship without having too many overt romantic scenes. So this was a novel that I really enjoyed for its romance even though it doesn't go out of its way to build up that subplot.
