    I see, I see~

And of course I wouldn't get offended! Your "nitpicking" (imo it isn't) helps me improve, so why should I? Advice from a senpai is always welcome~

I agree with Alea. It’s amazing the progress you can make if you keep at it every day. I’d like to say just 10-15 minutes, but I tend to go one for over an hour at times. :blobangel:

This cat tried learning Japanese. But it was just not for cats. I tried looking for sites or books but soon gave up.

Though, this one managed to understand the words through continuously watch anime for years. Though this cat can't write or read. This cat understands a little Japanese. I got progress by watching subs anyways.

I know a fun language-learning app that I've been recently trying to use is Duolingo! It's got a bunch of languages and fun little interactive games to keep you interested. (I'm trying to learn Spanish on it right now, but have tried out the Japanese and Korean language learning lessons and they don't seem too bad).

On top of learning how to read and write Japanese, I think it's important to also learn how to speak it which will help with your sentence formation and language retention in the long run! Watching Japanese shows and listening to Japanese songs will expose you to the sounds of the language and help you pronounce things a bit more clearly (basically how I learned English myself).

Good luck y'all, and have fun learning. :blobmelt:

    Duolingo (only the basics)
    Tae kim (grammar)
watch lots of things and you learn just from that except if your language is not similar to japanese (like english?)
language grammar and words are easy to learn but the application of keigo/honne or whatever and two-facedness is not as easy to learn.

*googles what Hanzi is* The pronunciation of Chinese character?

Well... The Kanji often times make use of the Chinese pronunciation, but they also use Japanese pronunciation... And often times even more.

Usually speaking, a Kanji can be read in at least 2 ways, but often times there are more.

So... They share some similarities I guess? But still a fair number of differences.

Hanzi and Kanji both come from the same source, but various governments simplified the characters for easier reading. Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) did not simplify the characters. Japanese simplified some of the characters. Simplified Chinese (Mainland China) built on the Japanese simplifications and simplified more characters. Otherwise, the characters are almost the exact same. There are a few Kanji that aren't Hanzi and vice versa.
Hanzi is 漢字 except in pinyin. It's just Chinese characters.
