JJWXC is, I believe, a female-oriented platform. Also, it has recently been a huge drama regarding censoring sexual scene in JJWXC. (Only kissing allowed, effective retroactively.)

The other platforms are very, very, small compared to Qidian.

The authors are beginning to move platforms, with I believe some trying to go self-publishing. However, the fact remained that if this model was met with little opposition, other platforms will soon follow suit.

I see, so that's why I see missing chapter that are being blocked/banned lol. Also maybe not really on screen but I read implied scissoring scene from a jjwxc novel.

I hope a platform would grab this hot opportunity to make better/fairer platform for author instead of giving them contract slave wages like what Tencent tried to do.

So Tencent is acting like western companies, but more crude and ugly?
Sounds like the modern chinese state.

Can't the authors quit Tencent and create a plateform on which they can post their own novels?
A personnal site for example and something like novelupdates for the updates of the chapters?

I heard that getting a licence to open a webnovel platform is too time-consuming and complicated for ordinary mooks. It's so absurd that your request can be directly denied by the gov without giving reasons.

Nice barrier to entry. Sweet. Concentrated power on the govt and their companies.

A completely normal phenomenon across the world, with the country opting the most crude method. At least the xianxia reflects them well, being super oppressive and authoritarian.

And not forgeting that bribe and conflicts of interest are everywhere in chinese public offices ...
So it would be either banned to the ground, put out of business through lateral ways (landlord, ad sources, medias or Internet provider pressure) or just straight up bought by a Tencent owned camouflaged company.

The link has the whole post. I just posted the pre-TL;DR-ish bit by the poster (our very own @rwxwuxiaworld ) as a teaser.

    Well, that's really unfortunate.
It feels like China company take a lot of share from their creators. Some live streamers also have 50% of their earning taken by the company. I am not sure about other competitors. Even if there are competitors, their contract will also follow the biggest platform as a benchmark. Their contract could be changed anytime now.

There's no such things as 'potential', it's already almost dead when they ban a lot of novels and censored all new novels and limiting authors' creativity. This shit happening right now is just another nail in the coffin.

From my understanding, original authors who signed contract on webnovel pretty much signed just slighly better poop contract, but poop is poop. They already don't own their novel. Unless something is changed since I don't really keep up, I saw a lot of novels dual hosting there and royalroad though.

    Using existing platform then.
I believe their are many like royalroad or something like Scribble Hub and then contacting ttranslator and splitting the gains.

Pretty sure most 'free-form' platforms are banned. Ao3 just got banned recently as well.
