Just read whatever you love and like, no need to go on online forums and complain about how much you hate the portrayal of women in such stories because that just opens a can of worms as there are reverse harem stories too and don't get me started on portrayal of men in shoujo stories but everyone seems to love thrashing harem stories or portrayal of women in CN novels and that just irks me. This elitism and double started that other communities have mainly reddit and MAL has started here too like people who read R-18 harem stories belong to the bottom tier.

-These are just wish fulfillment novels, you have to be extremely dense and dumb to think stories from such novel are realistic portrayal but everywhere i go there are always threads of people especially women complaining while ignoring how much reverse harem and other stories where targeted audience are females have sexism too but god forbid men who read novels that are targeted towards them. Hell, i have even seen posts where people bring up academic researches on such topic, dafuq? and the most common that i see every now and then are the male readers creating threads asking for female opinion and guidance on such novels/stories which is just pure cringe that's like asking a male readers on what he thinks about reverse harem!

Do you not realize one can write a harem without being disgustingly sexist? Blatant sexism is a perfectly valid criticism of a novel.

Eh, let them complain, then. They have the right to complain, but you can exercise your right to ignore. It's not like their criticisms are reaching the Chinese authors' ears and forcing them to stop including harem in their works. And you are free to make a thread condemning sexism (against men) in fiction targeting women.

Well, to be fair, men in shoujo novels are portrayed BETTER than they actually are.

Even reverse harems (unless they are smut), tend to be better than harems. That is because what the female audience looks for in characters is depth. Once you get past a female character's "arc", they become nothing more than a tag along for decoration. In comparison, in reverse harems while characters have their arcs, they still play major roles through out the story. A lot of that has to do with it being rare that male characters tag along and would each have their own scenes to themselves (Reverse harems also tend to in the end having the MC choose one for most of them, in comparison, most harems end with MC choosing all of them these days). So the issue here is less to do with difference in realism, but simply trying to squeeze too many people into a scene makes it harder for the author to manage them. And this has been the biggest issue with harem, not even the harem itself but the fact that it takes away from the story.

Of course that doesn't change the fact that both tend to be bad.

I posted my complain to get it off my shoulder, that's first. You don't read what you don't like, do you? But I, or some of us, have to whether I like it or not and it just happens that they include harem in most novels, which also includes sexism which in turn has shitty romance. Because most novels that I want to read have a male MC and a description that I like(not that I don't read other novels sometimes like yaoi or female lead), that's not to say that the reverse isn't true. MC also most times will forgive a girl even if she murdered his family but not a guy that did something miniscule. And I have the right to complain because I read them just like you do, this is a general forum. You on the other hand, wouldn't read what you don't like, say you don't like slice of life or yaoi, you wouldn't go read that? Meanwhile for me even if I read almost all genres of these novels, it most probably has sexism, harem, shitty romance, or rape. Any one of these. Rant over, thank you. Oh and btw I don't go out of my way to rate or read harem novels when I see the tag. And sexism isn't only in harem, hence.

HA, rarely ever men are portrayed better in shoujo stories. 2 extremely beautiful men fighting over the main female lead or male lead sacrificing his everything for the female protagonist who he has known for like just 2 days. Sure not every novel is like this but i can say that the same for novels that are targeted towards men but are we comparing here which is the lesser evil?

Name me 3 reverse harem novel where one of the male character at some point of the story isn't directly or indirectly forcing himself on the female protagonist as a form of "flirting and the female lead is blushing because of it. That is the most common and done to death trope in reverse harem story but people love to scream rape if a similar scene happens in a harem story. Your views are pure biased!

    For me,
Harems are God's gift to man-kind like how boobies are hopes and dreams.

While reverse is the best way to see a gangbang in pornos. Since one peepee isnt enough for those jade-lile beauties.

I know what's your point on this, but there's going to be no end in complaining about this. Though I agree that we can't talk shit about a genre that we don't like, like how I hate BL, but I can't talk shit about it because people have a different in taste and opinion, and we have to respect that. But we can't expect people to shut their mouth too, they have the right to criticize something as long as it wasn't a made up and the quality of the story itself instead of the genre.

Just ignore it, you have to be the wise guy, that's the best move you could ever do.

im tired of people like you who like to complain about other people's complaints.

you are not different from them... you are just a envious brat who dont know how to treat women, and keep whining about reverse-rarem.

    wanna hear something great?
start to make at least 1% the same of those shoujo male leads, and you will see your popularity with women skyrocket.
keep treating them like garbage, and you will keep your status-quo of a looser.

Haha I picture someone reading the harem immersed it in but going *disgusting* oh that is *terrible* *oh no he didn't* on chapter 500..lol:p totally in denial..if it isn't your genre why read in first place.

It's fantasy..I'm not opposed to a reverse harem...cool MC surrounded by amazing men..

I write an 'overbearing CEO' novel because I think it is fun..do I agree with that behavior in real life..absolutely not haha

When ppl say my ML is a sexist asshole I say..well yes he is is ..but it's fantasy!

Haters gonna hate and give their opinions. Haha:eek::p

My only problem with sexism in CN novels is that it makes the women characters flat (not literally, unless they are a loli character). Harem novels are expected to be sexist on some level, that is just the nature of the genre.
