Anyone ever get that anime is for kids rant from your parents or other adults? It seems I always have to defend what I like from those who look down on it all the time. I showed my parents the really ecchi and adult like anime this got them to STFU, but there always someone out there who wants to criticize what I like so always end up trowing the hammer at them. i was like "Go SHOW THIS TO YOUR 6 YEAR OLD" *bouncing tits heads getting cut off action* anyone have same experience?
Actually they did show that to me when i was 6 years old. Legend of the overfiend and Devilman. Not sure what they were or weren't thinking.
I just straight out said them in the face that the fact that I still watch so called kids shows implies that my mental development was stunted by their crazy parenting techniques, so either they can suck it up, or accept that it is not just kids shows.
Just my grandma, she's ancient so she's bound to think like that, just as most Asian grandmas do. We watch disney animated movies so they don't bother on doing the its for kids card unless they wanna tease me for fun.
I figure if they are watching Disney cartoons as adults anything goes, unless it's your private stock of toons ... and who knows they might have their own private stock too lol
It depends on generations. My generation had access to cartoons and animes, my parents generation didn't. So my parents thought anime was also cartoon, which is for children. So when I stopped watching cartoons and started watching animes at around 13+ age, my parents kept nagging me about growing up. Now I am 29 and still watching animes, and when I have children of my own, I am sure I will be more specific with my nagging, like "Stop wasting your time on those silly cartoons, you are already 12! Grow up and come watch this anime with me."
I watch a lot of animated stuff not just anime, but Disney stuff too like the incredibles or big hero 6 I like good animation it doesn't really matter as long it's fun to watch.
And then they go on and watch Futurama, Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, ect... Edit: heck, lots of adults still watch children's cartoons like adventure time and rick and Morty (not actually sure about that one since I've never actually looked at it)
My mom died when I was 17, but I'd like to think she was becoming a fan, too. There were a few times I was too busy to watch the new Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes, so she would do it 'on my behalf' and tell me what happened (we didn't have a recorder. This was the age of analog). She laughed a lot when we were watching Slayers, too. My grandma was with me until I was 27, and though she never watched it with me, she never made fun of me for it! Oh! But I did get her to watch Fruits Basket. She really liked Tohru, but she didn't care for Kyo. She didn't understand the concept of tsundere.
Didn't experienced that, at least in my own family. My father was watching Dragon ball during my mother's pregnancy down to my brother's birth(our relatives said my brother got his almost gravity defying hair from it due to Father's watching them during the pregnancy period.), my mother was quite immune to it the age I was conscious enough to choose my own preferences in anime. Though my grandparents have some resistance way before, when I was around they were already watching with me side by side infront of the TV. Mostly the people who doesn't understand the my choices of shows was mostly persons only favoring watch live actions and soap operas. I often get the urge to walk out whenever they appear, but it's rude so I only curse them inside of my head with a fake smile on my face.
