No. Its up to your preference in the end.
If you dont want to read BL than you dont have to. Maybe there are epic BL novels but that doesnt mean you have to read them.

I also avoided yaoi tag like a plague. It just a matter of preference. Just like porn. I can consume any genre of porn even the weird ones. But when i came across gay porn it grossed me the hell out and made me feel like dying.

    It depends...
If it's mild with a lot of Bromance...
    You can consider trying it.
But if the relationship beyond normal friend and quite obvious...
Either avoid it or eat it whole

Nothing inherently wrong with avoiding a genre if you don't enjoy it, but at the same time you probably are missing out on some great stories, question is just how hard they are to find among the flood of stories.
Personally I tend to mostly avoid BL because I'm not particularly interested in romance stories unless there is something else catching my attention with the story, especially if they contain smut, regardless of if it is BL, GL or hetero.

Well most of the yaoi novels are stories where if u change the uke character for a female there is almost nothing different compared to a romance novel...the same cliches, type of characters, etc. If someone don't like "typical" romance novels probably will not like those types of yaoi. However there are several type of novels, some are very good some are trash. If you ever want to read some stories then go for the "Shounen Ai" tag so there isn't any sexual or explicit scene being depicted.

I've only come across a few gay porn videos that are erotic enough to let me overlook the body hair. I just don't find sweaty or oiled matted hair sexy.

Waxed nude dudes aren't that bad to watch. But mainly if they have decent muscle and tanned.

Just don't read them. If you don't like BL in general, then you won't like any of them.

I ve read some of them (choosing one with the highest score) out of curiousity and ended up disappointed anyway.

I avoid them too like there’s no tomorrow. My first anime that was recommended to me was Boku no Pico and i still have nightmares from that.

    Nothing wrong with it.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is immature for getting upset over someone else’s preferences. Not their choice to make.

I'm a fan of yaoi. I personally think it's not a problem to avoid it. It's like food, you'll have your favorites and you'll have your dislikes, and whether you like it or not is up to you. I avoid tags like yuri because it's not something i'm into personally. And harem in stories are just a huge frustration because I just want to see the MC become OP than his love life.

Will you be missing a bunch of great stories, possibly. There are Yaoi stories that don't have any sex scenes or smut if that's what your worried about ( or they warn you). Should you try them, Absolutely but you should ask around on threads for reads for specifics, so its not like hardcore in your face. Cause there are stories that look simple, but are like in there deep.

But, it all comes down to preferences and open mind. You should not be opposed, but be willing to at least read some then make a decision if it's for you or not.

Like all genres, there are great ones and there is crap. I was sick of the always weak, always needing to be saved female lead. There is less of that when both leads are described as men. That doesn’t mean I like all BL novels. I stay away from anything labeled dog blood. I just know it’s not for me.
There are a few books that are great Face of the Devil for example isn’t just a great BL, it’s one of the best quick transmigration novels I’ve ever read. Master of demonic cultivation, is in my opinion, one of the greatest cultivation novels ever written with deep friendships and unfortunate misunderstandings that take more than one life time to resolve.
For me I read these books because of how great they are. I try to do the characters and authors the favor of defining them as great and unique. Seeing each as an individual. Not just by their gender. I would want someone to do the same for the books I write.
If I was going to recommend something it would be the manga silver diamond. It’s a good place to start to see if it’s something you can enjoy.

Not wrong. You have your prefrences. But you are missing out on some good one but dont blame you. However if you do have some problems with men being gay then shame on you. People should only judge genres by their preferences and not by intolerance of men liking me. I dislike harem because their stories are mostly shallow but i still read some and i have some harems that i like. As a girl i am a tad weird out by yuri cause my first experience of yuri was super werid but i still gave it a try and i have some yuri i like and i will keep on reading them if the ever update. I also didn't like yaoi at first but i tried and still didn't like it and i kept trying until i found one that was good and became a fan ever since then. Beside nost of the good yaoi barely go that deep in the relationship. The relationship is kept to the kissing and the rated 18 or R is because most good yaoi are either horror or a killing game and the main characters barely have a chance to do anything. So you can just imagine one of the ML as female if you are against yaoi but still like to read a good story. I did that when I was reading a BG (cause the ML in the BG was to much of a bottom for me and the FL was super mainly) so just try some and if you do try Card Room. Barely romantic and more of a Im trying to survive while solving murders

Yaoi novel’s aren’t much different from any hetero romance novels. The only difference is the romance genders.

Are you missing any epic novels? Of course! Just like how you miss out on a mushroom dish which would fill you up your entire life. (means you died from it as it is poisonous, a sarcasm if you didn't get it)

Same with drugs, don't try at all. My sister is becoming lesbian by consuming these kind of entertainment. Unless you want to turn to the dark side, don't do it young padawan.

every genre has good and bad points; it all depends on personal taste; useless female MC in romance novels, Idiot MCs, or harems that get in the way of actual plot progression are what usually get me to drop stories, but I am willing to at least give them a try before I drop them.
I read BL with my cousin and his husband and they tell me all about what is unrealistic or funny. its a family bonding thing for us.
