God this game has had the rockiest launch it's possible to have. I had to reinstall Windows. Three times. THREE TIMES. How does that even happen?? What kind of insane launch issues actually end up with a person having to reformat their PC? And now they're saying they won't patch anything for another week and a half? Geez! Technical difficulties aside, though, I'm enjoying the game. The story is a bit of a mess, being a disjointed trainwreck presented in the form of scenes out of the worst and most confusing play you've ever seen. I hear that's because they ripped the old story system out and changed it into this so people wouldn't have to walk around and interact with NPCs. I'm not sure they should have listened to those people... Oh well. But the gameplay is pretty decent. I like how almost all missions involve multiparties of like 12 people or so, and the action combat is pleasant. The class and skill system is interesting enough, and there's enough depth to equipment to confuse the hell out of me. The graphics are a bit dated, but overall not terrible. So, what, am I the only one here that was dragged into playing this game? Speak up now.
Well, now's a great time to try again, since it just got a NA release. ... Or, rather, June 10th is a great time to try again, because that'll be when they patch some of the issues the NA release is having right now.
Looks fun but I know without a doubt my laptop won't be able to handle it after my PC ascended to heaven
Yup My school laptop might be able to handle it but the one I'm currently using is mainly just for reading and watching anime it can barely handle the NDS emulator

Don't laptop shame! >.< My laptop can't even run PS2 games at more than 60% FPS, so I totally get Ophi-kun's pain... T.T As for PSO2, I never played it myself, but I had some friends that did, and then used PSO2 characters in the Adventurer's Guild... It was a bit crazy seeing how bonkers powerful the PSO2 universe is! XD But well, that's basically all I know about it! Have fun playing it! ^^)/
Actually I finally finished that annoying download and finished the tutorial a few minutes ago. Unfortunately because it won't pause or resume progress on downloads, you have to do it in one big 65 GB download(for the second part, the first is only 19 GB) and I had to wait for my weekend for that so no one would mess with the computer while I was at work. I have to say, the time on the download window was inordinately frustrating as well. It continued to climb until it hit about 4h 30m(give or take some) and just froze there until it downloaded about 90% of the second file download, then the timer only went down when files were actively being finished, but if a file was larger and took more than a few seconds to download, the timer would freeze until it moved on to the next file making it the second worst timer I've ever seen, especially for a game this old... how can you fuck up a simple 'time remaining' timer? That all said, this hit me in the nostalgia all right. I played Phantasy Star Online back on Dreamcast.... yes I'm old. That was before it was on Nintendo Gamecube which came about right after we stopped playing 'kick the can' or 'hit timmy with a rock when he's not looking'.
It's like several days too late for me to tell you this now, but you could have used the Tweaker if you wanted to pause the download. The Tweaker is a program that was made to patch the JP version of the game with an english fan translation. It basically replaced the JP launcher. When it became clear that everything was just oh so wrong with this launch, the Tweaker team did an about-face on their plan to ignore the NA version entirely, and released day one support for this version of the game. Its main use is patching the game in a way less likely to fuck up, and soon, hopefully, in bypassing the Windows Store entirely.
Actually I appreciate this, I have a coworker who is planning to download it and this will help him immensely. As for me, I covered myself with an old standby, every so often, copy the new files being downloaded into the directory to a backup folder, that way in the event I needed to cancel the download for any reason, I could resume it, paste the files back over when it was checking and let it start out hours ahead.
