    Finally decided to get to reading Journey to the West after hearing it referenced so many times in other works. Noticed quite a few different translations on Amazon, and didn't know which to pick. Any suggestions?

    The Anthony C. Yu translation is generally considered the best, lots of explanatory notes too. Note: He has an unabridged translation and an abridged version titled The Monkey and the Monk.

    There's also the four-volume boxed set translation by W.J.F. Jenner. It's pretty good too.

    +1 Yu's abridged version was part of my designated reading list for my Chinese Civilization course back in college. It would suffice if you just want to be caught up on all the references as they shouldn't be too in-depth.

    Cool i kinda wanna go with the abridged version just cause its cheaper than buying all the other volumes. Unless it cuts out on too much stuff. Ill think it over.
