I totally agree with you. I really like Penelope character. She is so... true, so human. Tbh, I believe that any normal person, in her place, would have gone out of her mind, to the point to arrive thinking "if death is really the only end for the villain, then let's die once and for all". There's something I've noticed while reading the novel (only some chapters) and spoilers, and maybe it's just my own speculation, but I really like to analize story like this one. First of all, I really like Penelope, she is a protagonist so real that I've totally fallen in love with her, but sometimes when I read her point of view, I think that she concentrate too much in the fact that what she is living is a game. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame her for this, she is indeed in a game, with rules to follow to not die, but because of this I believe she forgets that other characters are people as well. It's probably also due to the fact that in all of her life no one ever showed her affection, so she isn't able to recognize it. Maybe that's the reason why she doesn't fully understand Eclise. Yes, she relied on him, but still she did it for surviving purpose, because she thought this was the safest way to win the game, since Eclise had the higher favorability among the others love interests. Maybe the fact that she is so sure about this world being a game prevents her from noticing that indeed there are people who cares about her safety.

Anyway, I can't blame her for thinking that the end would free her. I mean, she was in a disperate situation, and felt betrayed by Eclise, her brothers and even Callisto (though, I'm not sure I can call Callisto's wish "betrayal"), and Yvonne was ready to destroy her life, so... yes, no wonder she drunk the poison. She must have felt so tired, miserable, and hopeless to think "this is the only way".

I completely agree and it's why I loved this story so much BECAUSE the characters were so real. Every character had their reasons for their actions and it gave the story dimensions. Penelope had her faults for how she treated the characters because she treated them as characters instead of people - especially Eclise. She essentially played with him and did things to raise his favorability without considering what he was feeling. She made him love her but also drove him mad because he knew she didn't feel the same way as him. She made him hate her also I feel as he hated that she purposely did these things but she was just so lovely he wanted her. Penelope acknowledges that while Eclise favorability was at 99% she'd never get that final 1% because she didn't love him.

In the case of Vinter, she understood why he did the things that he did as he had been fighting the followers of Layla his entire life and as Penelope is a suspicious person it was natural for him to doubt her. But Penelope herself never trusted Vinter either as she believed he would be the one to bring Yvonne back and that doubt always stayed in her mind when they were together as she knew Vinter should have already encountered Yvonne. But we later learned that Vinter turned Yvonne away when she came to him claiming to have regained her memories of being Yvonne Eckart.

Penelope never put her trust fully into any of the characters and always harbored doubt. She was also prone to making her own assumptions about them and their intentions which often times was wrong.

They have a lunch or breakfast together at the green house and talking about her coming age ceremonies then a servant is running inside calling the duke to came outside or something the servant told him it’s serious he get up with derrek then Reynald and Penelope follows then she see “IT” Eclise and a Woman her face her eyes her hair is the same Then the woman open her mouth and says “ I’m Yvonne”.... after that the duke told dereck to bring Eclise to the dungeon and told Yvonne that she will be tested like the structure of the building etc. The Duke place a guard for Penelope and that make her frustrated she then walk out to the garden or something then she meet Yvonne talk about princess or something and then Yvonne said “it hurts” ? “The wound”( if you don’t know at the cave Penelope cast a magic and injured the goddess or something) the duke then call her to talk Penelope then said “Congratulations Duke your daughter is back” or something then she said to cancel her coming age ceremonies and stuff the duke said no then she said something that make him mad she said that about the Real Princess is back she then leave the office
Penelope ask Emily to guard her or something she want to meet Eclise so she put the magic bracelet that can change her appearance then she go to the dungeon on her way she meet dereck he ask her what is she doing here it may be some mistranslation but she said about laundry or something she adds t” The Princess told me to meet the ‘slave’”
The slave ? Dereck said that did Penelope order her she said no she said that Princess Yvonne is the one order her dereck is kinda speechless
Then she meet Eclise at the dungeon she talk about why she buy him etc etc then she said that “Do you remember when you said that betrayal is death ..... Eclise...you’re Dead to me

No. When she arrives, all the Interest Points earned from each male lead had 10 points subtracted from them. I think Eclis or Derek had -20% subtracted? Everyone else was -10%.

Interestingly, when at Callisto's birthday party a few weeks ago when he suggested to be just partners, his affection was 76%. On the day of the coming of age ceremony, Callisto went to Penelope to exchange cordial greetings (but actually pretty tense since they kinda... "broke up" a few days ago). He's irked that he gave her so many gifts, but she didn't accept any and instead wore Vinter's necklace. He's really suspicious about it because it doesn't match her outfit, and he becomes even more annoyed because it came from another man. After the 'break up', she sees that it's 89% . Penelope is glad that it's not higher, because it'll hurt him when she's gone. So after Yvonne arrives, his percentage changes from 89% --> 79%.

Analysis about Callisto's Percentage

Interestingly, after the breakup Callisto's interest was even higher (89%) than when he proposed (76%). There are many ways to interpret this, but I feel that after her rejection, he spent a lot of time thinking about her and why she would reject him. After all, he's right -- they're compatible, he knows she has a crush on him too, they enjoy each other's company.. yet for some reason she insists on love which he doesn't want to give. He IS still angry with her, but we can see that he still very much is in love with her because he got jealous that Penelope showed up wearing someone else's necklace instead of all the jewelry he gifted her and interrogated her on why she wore it, what it does, who she got it from etc. Their convo is cut short by the arrival of the rest of the Eckharts, but you can tell Callisto really wanted to continue to talk to her because he's very concerned that there is another guy involved, but her excuse is just "his gift was just too valuable to be worn today" which he kinda accepts.

I wouldn't worry too much about his %. He's already at the point of no return with his love for her. Even at 4% when they met again at the hunting competition he was nervous and worried when she briefly mentioned the idea of her not liking him anymore because he's out of her league and she wanted a more obtainable guy.. and he was relieved that no such guy existed yet. When Yvonne tried to manipulate him to fall for her, he pretty much ignored her cuz its either be with Penelope or be forever alone

Yvonne has pink hair that matches Reynolds and the Eckart blue eyes but there was no denying that she is the 'goddess' Penelope seen in the cave of the island (I think the island is called Soleil so that's what I'm going to refer to it as). But Penelope is confused because it's still 5 days before her ceremony so why is Yvonne here now.She then turns to Eclise wondering why? Why did he who promised to make her happy do this? Why why why why. The Duke orders Reynold and Penelope to their room whilst tells Yvonne to follow him as they will do tests and if she is lying she will be killed for trying to deceive them. Yvonne agrees to do it. The Duke then orders Derek to take Eclise to the dungeon. Yvonne tries to object but the duke says its their family business and he needs to find out how Eclise left the estate without permission. Penelope steps forward saying he's her escort so she'll handle it which startles Derick and the Duke as the didn't realize she was still there.

2. She asks Eclise why and can see her own miserable face reflected in his eyes. She knows she can't ask in front of everyone why he betrayed and no longer has enough money to check his favorability. But when he says that the Eckart family had treated him so well despite being a defeated slave and were looking for their daughter so he had to help, she proceeds to slap saying it wasn't the Eckart family who treated him well it was her. The Duke orders the butler to take her to her room but she tries to stop saying she still needs to talk to Eclise but Derick cuts her off and she realizes everyone is watching her and shes's scared as she appears to look the evil fake daughter upset at the return of the real daughter. The butler takes her back to her room and she sends Emily out.

3. The butler arrives to tell her that Vinter has made a deposit from the emerald mine and that she now has two new escorts assigned by the Duke who are standing guard outside. He has also banned her from making contact with outsiders and woman who are not part of the family and also Eclise. The butler says that it is for her protection but Penelope comments is it not confinement and surveillance. He then tells her Derrick has went to investigate the story of the monsters that attacked the village were Yvonne was injured which Penelope recognizes as the one Eclise training was in. She realizes now that this is how they met and regrets not realizing sooner. He also tells her that Eclise sold out his own countrymen by telling Derick that these slaves were trying to escape. He had given them the medicine that Penelope gave them but realized they were using it to fund their escape so he decided to pay back the kindness he got from the Eckarts by reporting them. She then realizes the creepiness of Eclise as he was willing to run away with these people previously but because Penelope didn't want to go he quickly sold them out. He's a person who acts loyal but really weighs people and their worth in order to promote his own comfort. As the other slaves were no longer of use to him because Penelope wouldn't run away he decided to sell them out and bring Yvonne back to elevate his own position.

4. The next morning she tries to sneak out to see Eclise but the guards try to stop having saying they have to escort her. But she threatens them saying that she she'll tell the duke they threatened her but not to worry as she'll be back soon. As she walks through the forest she runs into Yvonne who is coming back from meeting Eclise. Yvonne grabs her wrist crying and apologizes saying she was nervous about coming back to the estate and she didn't want to upset Penelope. Penelope tells her she honestly doesn't care and to treat her as such. Yvonne's hand is unnaturally cold which Penelope wonders if its to do with he Layla powers but warns that although she was once a commoner and knows where she is coming from don't grab on to other nobles like that as it'll cause trouble. She then tries to leave again but Yvonne calls out to her again apologizing for coming back saying that after regaining her memories Eclise gave her the courage to come back but Penelope again tells her it doesn't matter. Yvonne then trips over and Penelope helps her up but feels her skin is cold like a corpses. She tells her that even if she is the first daughter they are not family so treat her as a passing acquaintance.

5.But as she says that Reynold appears furious at what she said. As the argue he accuses her treating Yvonne worse that garbage even though she hasn't even been judged yet for being real or fake. Penelope realized that she hasn't let go of Yvonnes arm when she tried to help her up.But also laughs as she remembers her and Reynolds conversation in the attic and how he makes her feel and thinks she that nothing has changed since then. She then asks Yvonne whether she pushed her to the ground but Yvonne tells Reynold that she was stupid and fell and that Penelope was helping her up. Penelope then lets go of Yvonne's arm and says aloud that nothing has changed since back then and leaves and Reynold calls after her.
6.We get to the apology scene and Penelope telling him all her mistreatment in the household is because of him and if he was genuinely sorry not to talk to her for the time being.
7. Penelope and Emily talk as she's trying to get her to eat something. Emily says she can spy on Yvonne's maid Becky as it was Yvonne's family who got her into the Eckart estate. She asks Emily to only report on if Yvonne's maid does something suspicious. Emily eventually gets her to eat
8. 3 days before the ceremony the duke calls her to the office. He tells her that the slaves had been executed but before they died they said it was Eclise who gave them the idea to sell the medicine for money. The duke is annoyed because she nearly implicated the Eckart family in this fiasco but thankfully she only gave them money. When Derrick offered Eclise a reward he only wanted to stay in the Eckart estate and master the sword which Penelope thought was odd as he could have requested money or a title. The Duke tells her that Yvonne's memories of her mother are the same and that she always has the same birth marks on her hand as her mother so Penelope congratulates him for finding his lost daughter. She only asks that he doesn't take anything he gave from her away which includes Eclise. But the duke doesn't want to give her Eclise and won't let her see him. Their conversation then turns to the coming of age ceremony which Penelope ask him to cancel given the circumstances. But he refuses saying he won't let anyone know until after the ceremony.
9. Penelope sneaks out to meet Eclise using the magical bracelet and Emily help. When she gets to the prison she meets Derick leaving who asks what she is doing there. As she is disguised as a male servant she tells him she is her to change the laundry. When he asks whether is was Penelope but she lies and says it was Yvonne. He gives her a warning to be careful.
10. Penelope & Eclise conversation in the cell. Penelope throws the ring in the cell and leaves.
11. Penelope hears Yvonne coming down the stairs as she leaves so hides in the next room.
12. Eclise searches the floor for the ring and can't understand why she is abandoning him. He denies the reality. He knew she would be mad at him for bringing back Yvonne but thought she would come around and forgive him and smile at him again. Yvonne arrives and begins manipulating Eclise. Eclise remembers when she arrived back from the palace freezing with no carriage and crying in despair and believed she would have died if she stayed here. He believed she was crying for someone to save her or kill her so he had to get her out of the house as soon as possible so she could survive. As Eclise becomes lost in his illusion he doesn't know notice putting her bringing her shard of the mirror which she uses to brainwash (I know I called it a comb earlier but I think I was mistaken) in front of his eyes and tells him only he can save Penelope. But she tells not to trust her because she doesn't like him and if he betrays her she'll send him back to the slave market and he knows the terrible rumors around her. He can only trust Yvonne because they are the. But Eclise asks why they're the same and that Yvonne would have to die for her master one day Yvonne realizes this tactic of turning him against Penelope won't work and that her brainwashing isn't working properly so she decides to use a different approach to get him to find Penelope's shard of mirror.
13. Penelope overhears the conversation from the next room.
14. Penelope stays up all night debating what she can do to get out of the game without dying as she realizes Yvonne has probably started brainwashing Reynold and Derrick too. At dawn she calls Emily and asks her to go to Vinter and whispers her request. She asks what to do if he refuses but she tells her to inform him that she'll end the debt he owes her. Emily agrees to do it. As she leaves Penelope thinks there's only one way left she hasn't tried to leave the game
15. 2 days until the ceremony Callisto arrives and she rejects him. Yvonne fails to brainwash him. Penelope comes out to find her escorts knocked out (by the prince when he forced his way in ) She also sees the cut Callisto gave Yvonne on her neck and told to get the butler to call a doctor to have it seen to. As she tries to leave Yvonne asks her if her and Callisto are close but Penelope tells her that isn't any of her concern and leaves. When she goes inside she sees boxes of luxury gifts from Callisto including dresses, hats, gloves and...crossbows
16. Emily is waiting in the room for her when she returns and tells her Vinter refused until she called in her debt. So he will send it when it's prepared. He also asks Emily to tell Penelope that with this the owed debt is cleared so it shouldn't be asked again. Penelope comments there won't be a second time. Vinter sends an adult rabbit to visit Penelope that night. It stares at her for awhile while Penelope believes she can see the blue of his eyes. It then vomits something on the floor and leaves. Penelope doesn't sleep again.
17. The coming of age ceremony arrives and the maids dress Penelope is the fairy dress he originally sent commented on her beauty. As Emily does Penelope's hair she tells her she seen Yvonne's maid Becky being sneaking out suspiciously last night. She is lost in thought wondering why she would be out last night. To meet someone obviously but it can't be Vinter as Eclise has already brought her back to the house. She orders Emily out of the room and goes to the drawer were her poison is and thinks it's ironic that it is purple. But suddenly is shocked by the glow from the necklace which I think is the same color as Eclise's gauge bar that it reminds her of a love that kills. As she stares at it there is a knock on the door.
18.The duke remembered to come and greet her this morning like she asked. He notices the necklace and asks were it came from but she lies and says it was a gift from the shop owner who sold her the amulet she gave the father to celebrate her birthday. he comments that it doesn't match the dress but she said she said she'd still wear it. The duke thinks she has a kind her.
She tells him that she won't hurt Yvonne as she knows that why he gave her the escorts to protect Yvonne. But he says it wasn't like that. He then tells her how Reynold came to him after the hunting competition and made a confession. He told him that he placed Yvonne's necklace in Penelope's room. The duke wanted to beat him but then thought he was not eligible to do that. He talks about how he first met her begging for food and thought that Yvonne was like that somewhere. When he gave her a gold coin she laughed for the first time and he thought it was so pretty so when her mother died he couldn't leave her like that so he took her in. So when he thought she stole the necklace he thought she just wanted accessories but if he knew she would go 6 years just calling him Duke instead of fathers he would have never said that. He tells her that he'll never forget the look she gave him. He says when Eclise brought back Yvonne she had that exact same look so the Duke could only think about getting the man away from her. She essentially hold her breath until everything disappears and it reminds the duke of a dead person. He was worried that Eclise hurt her but if she wants he'll allow him to come back as her escort after the ceremony. But she also knows Yvonne wants Eclise so she said she'd allow it. She only asks that she can leave the house as Yvonne returned but the duke asks why she keeps asking to leave when she is also his daughter. She asks to call of her birthday ceremony again because Yvonne is back but the he refuses again because he wants to give Penelope the best birthday as an apology for everything. He'll announce Yvonne's return a week after the ceremony. Penelope begins to cry.
19. Reynold waits at the bottom of the stairs for her as he'll be her escort which she refuses but he says the father ordered it and shoots Emily a look. Emily quickly agrees. Penelope knows it's a lie but gives in. He teases her and then apologies again for what happened. He comments that he had a dream about it and Penelope realizes that Yvonne was trying to brainwash Reynold that way. Reynold then hands her a heavy box saying it's his gift. When she opened it, it was a box full of baby rabbits with one of them having green spots on a blue coat that matches her eyes. He tells her to look after them not as she's their mother. He then wishes her happy birthday.
20. As she arrives at the ceremony and sees Vinter who staring at her with a cold gaze. She knows he's aware Yvonne has returned but then he suddenly looks at the necklace she is wearing and she realizes she's still wearing it but doesn't see the harm as she left the poison at home.

21. Prince and Penelope talk. Derrick brings Yvonne and then we get to the poisoning scene!

Their conversation then turns to the coming of age ceremony which Penelope ask him to cancel given the circumstances. But he refuses saying he won't let anyone know until after the ceremony.
9. Penelope sneaks out to meet Eclise using the magical bracelet and Emily help. When she gets to the prison she meets Derick leaving who asks what she is doing there. As she is disguised as a male servant she tells him she is her to change the laundry. When he asks whether is was Penelope but she lies and says it was Yvonne. He gives her a warning to be careful.
10. Penelope & Eclise conversation in the cell. Penelope throws the ring in the cell and leaves.
11. Penelope hears Yvonne coming down the stairs as she leaves so hides in the next room.
12. Eclise searches the floor for the ring and can't understand why she is abandoning him. He denies the reality. He knew she would be mad at him for bringing back Yvonne but thought she would come around and forgive him and smile at him again. Yvonne arrives and begins manipulating Eclise. Eclise remembers when she arrived back from the palace freezing with no carriage and crying in despair and believed she would have died if she stayed here. He believed she was crying for someone to save her or kill her so he had to get her out of the house as soon as possible so she could survive. As Eclise becomes lost in his illusion he doesn't know notice putting her bringing her shard of the mirror which she uses to brainwash (I know I called it a comb earlier but I think I was mistaken) in front of his eyes and tells him only he can save Penelope. But she tells not to trust her because she doesn't like him and if he betrays her she'll send him back to the slave market and he knows the terrible rumors around her. He can only trust Yvonne because they are the. But Eclise asks why they're the same and that Yvonne would have to die for her master one day Yvonne realizes this tactic of turning him against Penelope won't work and that her brainwashing isn't working properly so she decides to use a different approach to get him to find Penelope's shard of mirror.
13. Penelope overhears the conversation from the next room.
14. Penelope stays up all night debating what she can do to get out of the game without dying as she realizes Yvonne has probably started brainwashing Reynold and Derrick too. At dawn she calls Emily and asks her to go to Vinter and whispers her request. She asks what to do if he refuses but she tells her to inform him that she'll end the debt he owes her. Emily agrees to do it. As she leaves Penelope thinks there's only one way left she hasn't tried to leave the game
15. 2 days until the ceremony Callisto arrives and she rejects him. Yvonne fails to brainwash him. Penelope comes out to find her escorts knocked out (by the prince when he forced his way in ) She also sees the cut Callisto gave Yvonne on her neck and told to get the butler to call a doctor to have it seen to. As she tries to leave Yvonne asks her if her and Callisto are close but Penelope tells her that isn't any of her concern and leaves. When she goes inside she sees boxes of luxury gifts from Callisto including dresses, hats, gloves and...crossbows
16. Emily is waiting in the room for her when she returns and tells her Vinter refused until she called in her debt. So he will send it when it's prepared. He also asks Emily to tell Penelope that with this the owed debt is cleared so it shouldn't be asked again. Penelope comments there won't be a second time. Vinter sends an adult rabbit to visit Penelope that night. It stares at her for awhile while Penelope believes she can see the blue of his eyes. It then vomits something on the floor and leaves. Penelope doesn't sleep again.
17. The coming of age ceremony arrives and the maids dress Penelope is the fairy dress he originally sent commented on her beauty. As Emily does Penelope's hair she tells her she seen Yvonne's maid Becky being sneaking out suspiciously last night. She is lost in thought wondering why she would be out last night. To meet someone obviously but it can't be Vinter as Eclise has already brought her back to the house. She orders Emily out of the room and goes to the drawer were her poison is and thinks it's ironic that it is purple. But suddenly is shocked by the glow from the necklace which I think is the same color as Eclise's gauge bar that it reminds her of a love that kills. As she stares at it there is a knock on the door.
18.The duke remembered to come and greet her this morning like she asked. He notices the necklace and asks were it came from but she lies and says it was a gift from the shop owner who sold her the amulet she gave the father to celebrate her birthday. he comments that it doesn't match the dress but she said she said she'd still wear it. The duke thinks she has a kind her.
She tells him that she won't hurt Yvonne as she knows that why he gave her the escorts to protect Yvonne. But he says it wasn't like that. He then tells her how Reynold came to him after the hunting competition and made a confession. He told him that he placed Yvonne's necklace in Penelope's room. The duke wanted to beat him but then thought he was not eligible to do that. He talks about how he first met her begging for food and thought that Yvonne was like that somewhere. When he gave her a gold coin she laughed for the first time and he thought it was so pretty so when her mother died he couldn't leave her like that so he took her in. So when he thought she stole the necklace he thought she just wanted accessories but if he knew she would go 6 years just calling him Duke instead of fathers he would have never said that. He tells her that he'll never forget the look she gave him. He says when Eclise brought back Yvonne she had that exact same look so the Duke could only think about getting the man away from her. She essentially hold her breath until everything disappears and it reminds the duke of a dead person. He was worried that Eclise hurt her but if she wants he'll allow him to come back as her escort after the ceremony. But she also knows Yvonne wants Eclise so she said she'd allow it. She only asks that she can leave the house as Yvonne returned but the duke asks why she keeps asking to leave when she is also his daughter. She asks to call of her birthday ceremony again because Yvonne is back but the he refuses again because he wants to give Penelope the best birthday as an apology for everything. He'll announce Yvonne's return a week after the ceremony. Penelope begins to cry.
19. Reynold waits at the bottom of the stairs for her as he'll be her escort which she refuses but he says the father ordered it and shoots Emily a look. Emily quickly agrees. Penelope knows it's a lie but gives in. He teases her and then apologies again for what happened. He comments that he had a dream about it and Penelope realizes that Yvonne was trying to brainwash Reynold that way. Reynold then hands her a heavy box saying it's his gift. When she opened it, it was a box full of baby rabbits with one of them having green spots on a blue coat that matches her eyes. He tells her to look after them not as she's their mother. He then wishes her happy birthday.
20. As she arrives at the ceremony and sees Vinter who staring at her with a cold gaze. She knows he's aware Yvonne has returned but then he suddenly looks at the necklace she is wearing and she realizes she's still wearing it but doesn't see the harm as she left the poison at home.

21. Prince and Penelope talk. Derrick brings Yvonne and then we get to the poisoning scene!

Thanks for the summaries/spoilers. I don't think I'll ever be prepared once this gets adapted. Compared to her day 1 sufferings where we can expect her to fight back and use some of those authority, knowing this part of the timeline where like Penelope, we've come to appreciate and understand the thought process of most of these characters (even coming to love them like Callisto and Emily), it STILL hurts just seeing Penelope's POV being "betrayed" consecutively after Yvonne returns (Eclipse, then Reynold *even if Penelope had a vague idea he was partially being brainwashed/manipulated himself, it still stings since it really is practically a rerun of Reymold's first outburst towards her with the necklace. Kinda confused on this part though, earlier spoilers mention it was a random staff who attempted to steal it or just somehow brought it and because they had no time to hide it well, they left it at Penelope's room*, and lastly Callisto's unintended semi rejection. A part of me is kinda excited to see the level of despair in Penelope (especially if we're gonna get a colorless eyes segment) but again, this part of the spoilers/timeline is so heartbreaking since feels so far on the ending and that one of our basic moments of happiness is that one scene where Yvonne is frustrated she can't brainwash Callisto and got injured in the neck

Basically what I understood is that in this novel everyone suffers:
Penny is too traumatized by all the mistreatment she received; so much so that she cannot believe the people who say they love her,
Callisto is paranoid about so many assassination attempts on him,
The Eckarts are unable at first to accept the reality about Yvonne (especially the older brother),
Vinter must hide with Children for their powers,
Iklies is obsessed with Penny
and Yvonne in a dead state is watching how the person who stole her body does horrible things with it.

Let's ignore the worst thing of all is that they are in a time loop

2. She asks Eclise why and can see her own miserable face reflected in his eyes. She knows she can't ask in front of everyone why he betrayed and no longer has enough money to check his favorability. But when he says that the Eckart family had treated him so well despite being a defeated slave and were looking for their daughter so he had to help, she proceeds to slap saying it wasn't the Eckart family who treated him well it was her. The Duke orders the butler to take her to her room but she tries to stop saying she still needs to talk to Eclise but Derick cuts her off and she realizes everyone is watching her and shes's scared as she appears to look the evil fake daughter upset at the return of the real daughter. The butler takes her back to her room and she sends Emily out.

3. The butler arrives to tell her that Vinter has made a deposit from the emerald mine and that she now has two new escorts assigned by the Duke who are standing guard outside. He has also banned her from making contact with outsiders and woman who are not part of the family and also Eclise. The butler says that it is for her protection but Penelope comments is it not confinement and surveillance. He then tells her Derrick has went to investigate the story of the monsters that attacked the village were Yvonne was injured which Penelope recognizes as the one Eclise training was in. She realizes now that this is how they met and regrets not realizing sooner. He also tells her that Eclise sold out his own countrymen by telling Derick that these slaves were trying to escape. He had given them the medicine that Penelope gave them but realized they were using it to fund their escape so he decided to pay back the kindness he got from the Eckarts by reporting them. She then realizes the creepiness of Eclise as he was willing to run away with these people previously but because Penelope didn't want to go he quickly sold them out. He's a person who acts loyal but really weighs people and their worth in order to promote his own comfort. As the other slaves were no longer of use to him because Penelope wouldn't run away he decided to sell them out and bring Yvonne back to elevate his own position.

4. The next morning she tries to sneak out to see Eclise but the guards try to stop having saying they have to escort her. But she threatens them saying that she she'll tell the duke they threatened her but not to worry as she'll be back soon. As she walks through the forest she runs into Yvonne who is coming back from meeting Eclise. Yvonne grabs her wrist crying and apologizes saying she was nervous about coming back to the estate and she didn't want to upset Penelope. Penelope tells her she honestly doesn't care and to treat her as such. Yvonne's hand is unnaturally cold which Penelope wonders if its to do with he Layla powers but warns that although she was once a commoner and knows where she is coming from don't grab on to other nobles like that as it'll cause trouble. She then tries to leave again but Yvonne calls out to her again apologizing for coming back saying that after regaining her memories Eclise gave her the courage to come back but Penelope again tells her it doesn't matter. Yvonne then trips over and Penelope helps her up but feels her skin is cold like a corpses. She tells her that even if she is the first daughter they are not family so treat her as a passing acquaintance.

5.But as she says that Reynold appears furious at what she said. As the argue he accuses her treating Yvonne worse that garbage even though she hasn't even been judged yet for being real or fake. Penelope realized that she hasn't let go of Yvonnes arm when she tried to help her up.But also laughs as she remembers her and Reynolds conversation in the attic and how he makes her feel and thinks she that nothing has changed since then. She then asks Yvonne whether she pushed her to the ground but Yvonne tells Reynold that she was stupid and fell and that Penelope was helping her up. Penelope then lets go of Yvonne's arm and says aloud that nothing has changed since back then and leaves and Reynold calls after her.
6.We get to the apology scene and Penelope telling him all her mistreatment in the household is because of him and if he was genuinely sorry not to talk to her for the time being.

Hi just a few edits for what happened at her coming of age.

The necklace was actually a gift from Vinter which he gave her when they went to rescue the children but she forgot to return. Even though it didn't match the dress she was wearing she decided to wear it.

Previously she had asked Emily to monitor Yvonne's maid and she reported to Penelope that she was seen in I think the black market area? or something along those lines. Penelope had also commissioned Emily to ask Vinter to make a poison without an antidote for her and if he refused she said she would cut off all ties with him. So Vinter agreed to make it.

Flash forward to the coming of age ceremony. The duke wanted to keep Yvonne's return secret as he wanted the day to just be about Penelope and came to visit her that morning as she had said that's all she wanted him to do for her that day (she said this during their meal right before the butler announced that Eclise had returned with Yvonne but the duke still remembered). Penelope had originally planned to drink the poison before the coming of age ceremony but because the duke remembered to visit her she didn't. Instead she went ahead with the day.

Derick had been missing the entire day but suddenly arrived with Yvonne beside him much to the duke and Reynolds fury. The system the announced Penelope had failed hard mode and her favorability decreased 20% with Reynold and Derick, and 10% with the other targets. To save face for the duke, Penelope thanked Derick for bringing Yvonne as agreed and announced to everyone that Yvonne had returned. She told them that today was not her special day but a special day for Yvonne as she was back and toasted to her. Yvonne's maid then came out with a glass of wine for her and Penelope's necklace glowed yellow. Realizing what was happening Penelope took the glass from Yvonne saying the maid had mistaken the glasses. Yvonne sees Penelope's necklace and I believe she recognizes it as Vinter had given it to her in a previous like. Penelope then toasts again "to the main character" and drinks the poisoned wine. Vinter then notices the color of her necklace too late and screams. Penelope then vomits blood and collapses. But the system announces she got a special reward from the "saving the children" event which allows her to survive which Penelope doesn't want. But the system automatically accepts after 5 seconds if she doesn't press no and she can't move her body to reject it so the system automatically takes the payment and she essentially gets to live.

Derick is standing watching the entire exchange confused and tries to move to her when she collapses but is suddenly shoved aside by Callisto who sprints to her and grabs her body screaming for a doctor. Derick then realizes what Penelope vomited was blood. The duke and Reynold crowd around Penelope unsure of what to do. Vinter then announces he has an antidote on him for poison. The duke doesn't want to give it as there's no proof she was poisoned but Reynold points out it's first aid and if they didn't do anything now she will die (she was previously convulsing in Callisto's arms but by the stage suddenly stopped moving completely. Callisto orders Vinter to give it to her quickly but if anything happens he's essentially dead. Vinter then gives her the antidote and color begins to come back to her face. The doctors arrive by this stage and so they carry her back to the house.

I read that spoiler too but as far as the novel goes, Reynold admits it in one of his arguments with Penelope and even tells his father the truth that it was him who stole it

Penelope steps forward saying he's her escort so she'll handle it which startles Derick and the Duke as the didn't realize she was still there.

2. She asks Eclise why and can see her own miserable face reflected in his eyes. She knows she can't ask in front of everyone why he betrayed and no longer has enough money to check his favorability. But when he says that the Eckart family had treated him so well despite being a defeated slave and were looking for their daughter so he had to help, she proceeds to slap saying it wasn't the Eckart family who treated him well it was her. The Duke orders the butler to take her to her room but she tries to stop saying she still needs to talk to Eclise but Derick cuts her off and she realizes everyone is watching her and shes's scared as she appears to look the evil fake daughter upset at the return of the real daughter. The butler takes her back to her room and she sends Emily out.

3. The butler arrives to tell her that Vinter has made a deposit from the emerald mine and that she now has two new escorts assigned by the Duke who are standing guard outside. He has also banned her from making contact with outsiders and woman who are not part of the family and also Eclise. The butler says that it is for her protection but Penelope comments is it not confinement and surveillance. He then tells her Derrick has went to investigate the story of the monsters that attacked the village were Yvonne was injured which Penelope recognizes as the one Eclise training was in. She realizes now that this is how they met and regrets not realizing sooner. He also tells her that Eclise sold out his own countrymen by telling Derick that these slaves were trying to escape. He had given them the medicine that Penelope gave them but realized they were using it to fund their escape so he decided to pay back the kindness he got from the Eckarts by reporting them. She then realizes the creepiness of Eclise as he was willing to run away with these people previously but because Penelope didn't want to go he quickly sold them out. He's a person who acts loyal but really weighs people and their worth in order to promote his own comfort. As the other slaves were no longer of use to him because Penelope wouldn't run away he decided to sell them out and bring Yvonne back to elevate his own position.

4. The next morning she tries to sneak out to see Eclise but the guards try to stop having saying they have to escort her. But she threatens them saying that she she'll tell the duke they threatened her but not to worry as she'll be back soon. As she walks through the forest she runs into Yvonne who is coming back from meeting Eclise. Yvonne grabs her wrist crying and apologizes saying she was nervous about coming back to the estate and she didn't want to upset Penelope. Penelope tells her she honestly doesn't care and to treat her as such. Yvonne's hand is unnaturally cold which Penelope wonders if its to do with he Layla powers but warns that although she was once a commoner and knows where she is coming from don't grab on to other nobles like that as it'll cause trouble. She then tries to leave again but Yvonne calls out to her again apologizing for coming back saying that after regaining her memories Eclise gave her the courage to come back but Penelope again tells her it doesn't matter. Yvonne then trips over and Penelope helps her up but feels her skin is cold like a corpses. She tells her that even if she is the first daughter they are not family so treat her as a passing acquaintance.

5.But as she says that Reynold appears furious at what she said. As the argue he accuses her treating Yvonne worse that garbage even though she hasn't even been judged yet for being real or fake. Penelope realized that she hasn't let go of Yvonnes arm when she tried to help her up.But also laughs as she remembers her and Reynolds conversation in the attic and how he makes her feel and thinks she that nothing has changed since then. She then asks Yvonne whether she pushed her to the ground but Yvonne tells Reynold that she was stupid and fell and that Penelope was helping her up. Penelope then lets go of Yvonne's arm and says aloud that nothing has changed since back then and leaves and Reynold calls after her.
6.We get to the apology scene and Penelope telling him all her mistreatment in the household is because of him and if he was genuinely sorry not to talk to her for the time being.
7. Penelope and Emily talk as she's trying to get her to eat something. Emily says she can spy on Yvonne's maid Becky as it was Yvonne's family who got her into the Eckart estate. She asks Emily to only report on if Yvonne's maid does something suspicious. Emily eventually gets her to eat
8. 3 days before the ceremony the duke calls her to the office. He tells her that the slaves had been executed but before they died they said it was Eclise who gave them the idea to sell the medicine for money. The duke is annoyed because she nearly implicated the Eckart family in this fiasco but thankfully she only gave them money. When Derrick offered Eclise a reward he only wanted to stay in the Eckart estate and master the sword which Penelope thought was odd as he could have requested money or a title. The Duke tells her that Yvonne's memories of her mother are the same and that she always has the same birth marks on her hand as her mother so Penelope congratulates him for finding his lost daughter. She only asks that he doesn't take anything he gave from her away which includes Eclise. But the duke doesn't want to give her Eclise and won't let her see him. Their conversation then turns to the coming of age ceremony which Penelope ask him to cancel given the circumstances. But he refuses saying he won't let anyone know until after the ceremony.
9. Penelope sneaks out to meet Eclise using the magical bracelet and Emily help. When she gets to the prison she meets Derick leaving who asks what she is doing there. As she is disguised as a male servant she tells him she is her to change the laundry. When he asks whether is was Penelope but she lies and says it was Yvonne. He gives her a warning to be careful.
10. Penelope & Eclise conversation in the cell. Penelope throws the ring in the cell and leaves.
11. Penelope hears Yvonne coming down the stairs as she leaves so hides in the next room.
12. Eclise searches the floor for the ring and can't understand why she is abandoning him. He denies the reality. He knew she would be mad at him for bringing back Yvonne but thought she would come around and forgive him and smile at him again. Yvonne arrives and begins manipulating Eclise. Eclise remembers when she arrived back from the palace freezing with no carriage and crying in despair and believed she would have died if she stayed here. He believed she was crying for someone to save her or kill her so he had to get her out of the house as soon as possible so she could survive. As Eclise becomes lost in his illusion he doesn't know notice putting her bringing her shard of the mirror which she uses to brainwash (I know I called it a comb earlier but I think I was mistaken) in front of his eyes and tells him only he can save Penelope. But she tells not to trust her because she doesn't like him and if he betrays her she'll send him back to the slave market and he knows the terrible rumors around her. He can only trust Yvonne because they are the. But Eclise asks why they're the same and that Yvonne would have to die for her master one day Yvonne realizes this tactic of turning him against Penelope won't work and that her brainwashing isn't working properly so she decides to use a different approach to get him to find Penelope's shard of mirror.
13. Penelope overhears the conversation from the next room.
14. Penelope stays up all night debating what she can do to get out of the game without dying as she realizes Yvonne has probably started brainwashing Reynold and Derrick too. At dawn she calls Emily and asks her to go to Vinter and whispers her request. She asks what to do if he refuses but she tells her to inform him that she'll end the debt he owes her. Emily agrees to do it. As she leaves Penelope thinks there's only one way left she hasn't tried to leave the game
15. 2 days until the ceremony Callisto arrives and she rejects him. Yvonne fails to brainwash him. Penelope comes out to find her escorts knocked out (by the prince when he forced his way in ) She also sees the cut Callisto gave Yvonne on her neck and told to get the butler to call a doctor to have it seen to. As she tries to leave Yvonne asks her if her and Callisto are close but Penelope tells her that isn't any of her concern and leaves. When she goes inside she sees boxes of luxury gifts from Callisto including dresses, hats, gloves and...crossbows
16. Emily is waiting in the room for her when she returns and tells her Vinter refused until she called in her debt. So he will send it when it's prepared. He also asks Emily to tell Penelope that with this the owed debt is cleared so it shouldn't be asked again. Penelope comments there won't be a second time. Vinter sends an adult rabbit to visit Penelope that night. It stares at her for awhile while Penelope believes she can see the blue of his eyes. It then vomits something on the floor and leaves. Penelope doesn't sleep again.
17. The coming of age ceremony arrives and the maids dress Penelope is the fairy dress he originally sent commented on her beauty. As Emily does Penelope's hair she tells her she seen Yvonne's maid Becky being sneaking out suspiciously last night. She is lost in thought wondering why she would be out last night. To meet someone obviously but it can't be Vinter as Eclise has already brought her back to the house. She orders Emily out of the room and goes to the drawer were her poison is and thinks it's ironic that it is purple. But suddenly is shocked by the glow from the necklace which I think is the same color as Eclise's gauge bar that it reminds her of a love that kills. As she stares at it there is a knock on the door.
18.The duke remembered to come and greet her this morning like she asked. He notices the necklace and asks were it came from but she lies and says it was a gift from the shop owner who sold her the amulet she gave the father to celebrate her birthday. he comments that it doesn't match the dress but she said she said she'd still wear it. The duke thinks she has a kind her.
She tells him that she won't hurt Yvonne as she knows that why he gave her the escorts to protect Yvonne. But he says it wasn't like that. He then tells her how Reynold came to him after the hunting competition and made a confession. He told him that he placed Yvonne's necklace in Penelope's room. The duke wanted to beat him but then thought he was not eligible to do that. He talks about how he first met her begging for food and thought that Yvonne was like that somewhere. When he gave her a gold coin she laughed for the first time and he thought it was so pretty so when her mother died he couldn't leave her like that so he took her in. So when he thought she stole the necklace he thought she just wanted accessories but if he knew she would go 6 years just calling him Duke instead of fathers he would have never said that. He tells her that he'll never forget the look she gave him. He says when Eclise brought back Yvonne she had that exact same look so the Duke could only think about getting the man away from her. She essentially hold her breath until everything disappears and it reminds the duke of a dead person. He was worried that Eclise hurt her but if she wants he'll allow him to come back as her escort after the ceremony. But she also knows Yvonne wants Eclise so she said she'd allow it. She only asks that she can leave the house as Yvonne returned but the duke asks why she keeps asking to leave when she is also his daughter. She asks to call of her birthday ceremony again because Yvonne is back but the he refuses again because he wants to give Penelope the best birthday as an apology for everything. He'll announce Yvonne's return a week after the ceremony. Penelope begins to cry.
19. Reynold waits at the bottom of the stairs for her as he'll be her escort which she refuses but he says the father ordered it and shoots Emily a look. Emily quickly agrees. Penelope knows it's a lie but gives in. He teases her and then apologies again for what happened. He comments that he had a dream about it and Penelope realizes that Yvonne was trying to brainwash Reynold that way. Reynold then hands her a heavy box saying it's his gift. When she opened it, it was a box full of baby rabbits with one of them having green spots on a blue coat that matches her eyes. He tells her to look after them not as she's their mother. He then wishes her happy birthday.
20. As she arrives at the ceremony and sees Vinter who staring at her with a cold gaze. She knows he's aware Yvonne has returned but then he suddenly looks at the necklace she is wearing and she realizes she's still wearing it but doesn't see the harm as she left the poison at home.

21. Prince and Penelope talk. Derrick brings Yvonne and then we get to the poisoning scene!

In a way, all of the characters are pitiful. Except Derrick. He's trash. (Especially after the bird thing, and don't tell the excuse he gave Penelope, we all know he gets off by imagining her in the cage)
