1. Vinter catches up to Penelope in the hallway saying he wants to talk to her for a minute but she says she has nothing to discuss with the marquis. Vinter says that her maid that claimed to know nothing should know the truth and he would like to inform the Duke. Penelope frowns at the threat and looks around but the hallway is clear. But as Yvonne's brainwashed servants could be anyway she has him follow out of the backdoor of the house. She stopped in the garden and purple flowers were in blood. Vinter continues and asked her why she lied saying that the poison she commissioned of him and the one she drank were not the same. Penelope is embarrassed but asks him to be careful with what he says as they're still in the duke's manor but he tells her they're soundproofed. He the continues saying that he was worried if he came forward he wouldn't implicate her in trying to poison Yvonne so he waited until she woke up but can't understand if it was her own drama why were the maids different. He then tells her to tell him if he got another poison and he'll testify on her behalf to the duke. Penelope asks him if he's asking as the marquis or the information dealer. If he's the marquis then he's overly interested and she'll solve it herself but if he's the dealer then isn't it the same as he doubted her. When she asked him to prepare a poison without antidote what did he honestly think? The evil princess trying to poison the real princess who returned? After the rudeness she received last time she would go back one more time and do what she wants. But she didn't get that because he had made an antidote. At this moment his face is hell as it crumbles. She didn't know what he wanted from her. Did he want her to say that she was trying to hurt Yvonne or find out who gave the other poison. But one thing was certain. She tells him to pick up the trust her never had in her and then pushed his chest back with one finger so he took a step back saying that this is the distance between him. They were always just one step away from one another but she didn't want to be involved in it anymore. She knows he's smart so he'll understand but he grabs the finger telling her that even if he predicted that she would poison others, is it just poison in her hands? She realizes something is wrong when she sees his bloodshot eyes. He tells her he's a wizard who values life above all else and it's his mission to prove it in comparison to the Layla followers who take power and steals the lives of others. But since meeting her he's forgotten a lot of things - the grip on her finger is strong. She tells him to look for excuses from himself not from others but he continues.

She asks whether he thought she planned to kill such a sweet person but he stops her saying he was afraid for Penelope. Penelope who was scared of her return who entrusted money to him. Penelope who when the real daughter returned would that money and disappear. So when Yvonne approached him saying she had regained her memories of her family he ignored her. After he left he heard that the slums she stayed in had been attacked by monster continuously and he hasn't had a good night sleep. He had committed an unforgivable sin and had nightmares from it. The first thing he worried about when he heard of Yvonne's return and when she commissioned him to make the poison was to make an antidote to cover up the crime she committed. He then asks whether this is a matter of trust? Penelope is shocked by his confession. The good and kind Vinter from normal mode had already turned Yvonne away forsaking his beliefs for Penelope. Due to this Eclise who was brainwashed brought her back instead. Vinter begs her again to answer whether this is a matter of trust but Penelope reckons it's his personality problem which makes him laugh.

He says he doesn't know but ever since he left her room that night he thinks about her every time he wakes up and all the days he could have spent with her releasing her finger. Penelope apologizes but she can't accept it (such an ambiguous love). He says he's not asking her to accept her but don't tear herself apart. Use him. She wonders what the color purple meant. She asks, even if he mask comes out? He assures her he's been ready for this since he made the poison. She asks even if she asks him to incriminate Yvonne. He tells her he'll use memory manipulation magic. She then asks would he kill her. He hesitates and says he'll hire an assassination guild and sign it. She laughs thinking it's a perfect answer and wonders whether it would have been better if this happened before hard mode ended. But she asks what about the children he protected who are probably being prosecuted by Layla somewhere. Vinter looks like he's going to cry by this stage as he hadn't thought about them and she was asking him to choose between his mission and love. So decides to stop teasing him and tells him she wouldn't ask him to do that. Believe it or not she's a pacifist and she doesn't want to give up his mission for her. She just wants to finish this job as quickly as possible and leave the house. So the conversation comes fulls circle as he points out that someone was clearly aiming for her so why is she trying to frame herself. So she decided to admit it and agrees that it would be a plot of someone who bought the poison... but she already bought a poison through her dedicated aid. He asks who got the poison through the dead maid realizing she already knew. When she doesn't answer he asks who is is and asks was it Yvonne. When she doesn't answer again he takes it as her acknowledging it was and puts his face in his hands because it's so hard to accept. But then he has a thought and asks her why she drank the other poison an then asks was she really trying to die. She agrees and he grabs her shoulders asking her why. She tells him he already heard "do you need a great reason to drink poison?" He looked at her in despair and she can feel him shaking and he help her shoulders. He asked what she wanted him to do if she drank it and she told him to say nothing and let her go. He begins speaking gibberish and asks what happened to his poison he gave her and what if she drinks it again. But she assures him she won't as she wanted to die once not twice. He asks what she will do with it and he'll take care of it but she says she'll handle it. She then asks whether he still thinks Yvonne is an innocent child. And tells him it's fine when he can't answer but he tells her to let him re-examine but she tells him she a request instead. He asks what it is and she tells him to bury the maid which he asks why. She says it's a shame she died in vain and then freezes wondering why she cared about someone who tried to frame her and becomes annoyed. She asks him whether Yvonne asked this and his face becomes chaotic as he things that the innocent Yvonne who cares for helping for others who have taking care of the dead maid. But I think he says she never mentioned the dead maid. We must have been sad because we were together. Penelope laughs saying she doesn't know, She leaves Vinter to think about it.

She feels Derick staring at her but as she looks to see if Yvonne is there she passes out again.

Derick notices she's awake again and asks was there something she didn't like but Penelope is confused because she thought he'd enjoy seeing her like this but he's strangely anxious. But then he tries to ask again what happened which leads to an argument with Reynold who tells him Penelope has just woken up. Derick wants to address the issue quickly so squash any further rumors. Penelope tells them that they must have been told she needs to recover and asks them all to leave as she's tired. Derick and Reynold didn't want to but the Duke pulled them out of the room.

Penelope recalls hearing him telling her he'd give her whatever she wants whether it's leaving this place or love. She mentions the proposal too and that the rumors from the hunting competition were clearly true. She also tells her he had to go north to fight the rebellion. But then it turns to her telling her the rumors circulating around the house is that she drank the poison herself to gain attention. Penelope reckons its fine. Emily then comments that she thought the poison she got was for Yvonne but Penelope tells her not to say such a villainous remark. Emily calls Yvonne the real villain and says she knows the poison she got for Penelope and the poison Penelope drank were different. Emily assures her she hasn't told anyone with Penelope warning her not to if she wants to live. But she's worried about the rumor going around about Penelope but Penelope says she'll handle it herself.

4. Penelope is called to the office where Derick, Reynold, Yvonne, Vinter and the duke are waiting. They ask both of them whether they remember what happened. Yvonne cries saying she seen her vomiting blood and asks her why she'd do such a scary thing which causes Penelope to laugh and Derick eyes become fierce. The duke then tells them that he can't rule of Callisto's suggestion that this was Yvonne's plot which Penelope stopped which shocks Penelope despite meeting Yvonne, Callisto had kept his sense of reason. Yvonne denies it saying she was only there because Derick took her which he agrees making Penelope laugh more because she believes him to be an idiot who was brainwashed. Yvonne continues saying Emily had often met with Becky so she knew Becky was Penelope's person sent to watch her. Penelope thinks she's scary and thinks that this was why she had asked Emily only to report suspicious activities and nothing else. When the Duke points out the head butler assigned her maid but Yvonne says that he is also close to Penelope and if she was really the culprit then why would Penelope drink it. Penelope knew this was how the events would play out after what she had done and watches Yvonne drink her tea when a shiver runs down her spine as she realizes Yvonne has no reflection in the water. Derek asks her why she drank it if she knew it was poisoned. He then explains that Vinter had told them about the properties of the necklace she wore and she notices that Vinter is staring at her as intensely as Derick. Derick continues saying Becky also accused her before dying. Derick ignores the Duke's cry to stop and asks her again why she drank it even though she knew it was poisoned - what did she want?

5. Penelope then says that the answer was already in the question. She said she did it herself and watches Yvonne's face change in embarrassment. She didn't trust Emily and she knew Becky's weakness so she got her to get it for her. When the Duke asks her why she tells him to give Yvonne back the attention and she didn't want to take her place as the daughter. Derick asks did she really try to kill herself? Penelope thinks that he's been the one pushing this narrative but the loss of color from his face and his out of focus gaze made him look like someone who had heard unexpected news. She says that she thought she'd be happy to die. But when he asks why there's other ways to get attention, she asks him whether you need a huge reason to drink poison. Vinter then interjects desperately trying to defend her saying that doesn't make sense as he wonders why the maid put it into the cup then so Penelope tries to come up with an excuse saying she got up late and forgot to do it herself. The duke is furious and slam his arm down on the arm rest. Penelope apologizes for the sins she has caused and says there's only one way to resolve it which is letting her leave. After all that's why they invited her here, to admit her sins. The Duke denies it saying they were trying to investigate whether someone was aiming for their lives but Penelope tells them it was her fault, there's no need to investigate it further and she'll take responsibility. But Derick who has been looking at her like he wants to kill her, eyes go bloodshot and he tells her he won't let her. She tells him as always it's neat and tidy to tie it up as her fault so she'll leave. But he begins to yell now asking where she's going and saying she'd need to cover up the rumors and think of her reputation. At this point he's covered in sweat like a man whose been chased but he realizes how excited he's gotten and tries to calm down telling her there's a limit to what their family can do to protect her. She asks him since when did he care about her reputation. The duke interrupts and Derick is right and to calm down as even if she did it no one is trying to blame her but he's talking to her is a soothing tone one would use when talking to a small child. Penelope notices Yvonne has stopped crying and is looking at Derick with a strange look (I think Yvonne's realized the brainwashing isn't working on him). Reynold then pipes in saying she said she didn't want to lose her position so why is she now trying to leave the house. She decides to repeat the words she said to him before and tells them that she's sick of everything. She's sick of her treatment and being in this house so now that Yvonne is back can they let her go. The Duke tries to say she's being unreasonable then changes direction and tells her no matter what anyone says she is still his daughter. She then tries to leave saying she's sick but Derick tries to stop her again but the Duke tells him to stop, she's sick.

6. After Penelope leaves the Duke orders Reynold to cover this up for awhile. Derick asks how can they ignore this when she said it was her own plot. The duke says that until her health recovers the investigation stops. But Derick continues saying that they still haven't investigated something and says Yvonne's room hasn't been searched. He then continues saying it was still possible that an outside force had bought the maid. Reynold cuts in asking if he thinks he's incapable of investigating as both he and Vinter had looked into it with no results. He tells Derick he doesn't have the power to investigate it so watch his mouth and don't anger her further. Derick says that nothing has been solved yet but Reynold cuts him off yelling that Penelope doesn't want it. He tells Derick there's nothing coming out every time he opens his mouth so be careful as she could drink poison again and then what would he do. He thinks back to their previous conversations were she described the necklace incident, being tired, and how miserable he made her feel. He then warns again that she could pack her bags and run away so watch his mouth and don't irritate her. Yvonne then chirps in saying they could search her room if they wanted but Reynold tells her to shut up She made a terrified noise but Derick didn't help her. Vinter then excuses himself and chases after Penelope.

well, lilies are also funeral flowers. They have the implication of purity, restoring the innocence of the deceased, but the Casablanca lily is recognised as the most beautiful lily of all lilies and unlike most flowers it has just a few meanings which are generally the same, so perhaps it was a different flower.

I have the link for free view/download of the book Language of Flowers, but it was published in 1884 so the symbolism is from the Victorian times. I don’t know if it consist (all) the colors, but it has a lot of flowers in it. I dont know a site specific about colors.

She says it's a shame she died in vain and then freezes wondering why she cared about someone who tried to frame her and becomes annoyed. She asks him whether Yvonne asked this and his face becomes chaotic as he things that the innocent Yvonne who cares for helping for others who have taking care of the dead maid. But I think he says she never mentioned the dead maid. We must have been sad because we were together. Penelope laughs saying she doesn't know, She leaves Vinter to think about it.

Thanks for the update! I know Penelope at this point (has justifiable) reasons not to trust in anyone (other than probably Callisto whom she was able to properly hear his vow/promise. and probably Emily to a much lower case) but I wish the same as later when she told/hinted the duke with Yvonne's reflection, I wish she would've hinted Vinter the same way just now. I mean, there are some or probably a lot of risks since Vinter is acting indecisive or hesitant (even just considering the fact Penelope would've poisoned Yvonne is kinda sad) but Penelope telling him Yvonne hasn't mentioned the death of her maid not even once SHOULD'VE removed some of the rose colored glasses of his (not to mention, she just heard from his own mouth how/why he wasn't the one who brought Yvonne home, not much of a reason but I'd give some points). I trust him (since at least future spoilers wise, I'd rank the capture targets as Callisto>>>>>>>>>>Vinter>>>Reynold>Eclipse>/=Derick)

I also read in one of these post that it was a misunderstanding that the duke and the two brothers mistreated her but from what I saw it didn’t seem like a misunderstanding or that they secretly cared for her because the duke did ignore her and was never on her side, the second brother framed her and yells at her that she would never be family, and the third brother didn’t do anything and blames everything on her. They treated her pretty sh**ty I get that they warm up to her as the story progress but it really doesn’t seem possible they cared for her from the beginning. BTW what does she do that was so crazy because the first bro doesn’t trust her because she don’t crazy things in the past in the flash back it doesn’t explain a lot about why they hated her so much what did she do. Did she throw tantrums or was mean to the maids it seems to me she is the one getting bullied, like the incident of the moldy bread who sent it to her or was it the maid that did it themselves to bully her?

Spoiler on Callisto x Penelope Reunion after her poisoning
Please let me know if any errors!

After Penelope wakes up the Eckharts have a meeting to discuss the poisoning incident. There's a lot of finger pointing and blaming her, and she's fed up with it, so she tells them she wanted to die (because why argue when they already are blaming her?) Which causes more yelling and anger. At some point Yvonne tries to manipulate her to do her bidding, but when it doesn't work, a new quest starts: Go to the Arcana Islands (where the Layla cult is) and find the Mirror of Truth. Then we have the scene of her escape that @ Upsadaisy kindly spoiled. There's a scene with Vinter trying to stop her/giving advice, and Derek trying to stop her (he failed badly it was a very pitiful scene). She couldn't teleport directly to the Arcana Islands due to high magical interference, so she teleported to a nearby island using the Ancient map that Callisto returned to her from the cave. On route to the Arcana islands, a Kraken (octopus thing with 14 legs) attacks the ship and a quest to defeat it is activated. During it, Callisto randomly appears and Penelope is ????. They work together with good teamwork and defeat it - If anything Callisto is mostly assisting as he watching her be OPness www. When its over, Callisto storms over with this really complicated look on his face. She's so confused, wondering why he's here, randomly in the middle of the ocean, and wasn't he fighting rebels in the north??

Callisto on the other hand is exasperated, asking her in return why she's all by herself in danger again, what is SHE doing?? When he heard she woke up and disappeared from the Duchy he ran back like a madman and looked for her to find her here -- she's driving him crazy. He rests his chin on her forehead (but she's wearing a mask and can't feel his warmth) ,and she notes that instead of his prideful tone, now its very tired She doesn't understand that for someone who doesn't love her, why he would go this far ..? To note she's wearing a disguise- boys clothes, mask, hood. he asks her why she's wearing such a ridiculous masks and removes it - she asks how he knew it was her, and he said no matter where she is - the battlefield, the palace, the duchy, he will always search until he found her. His answer causes her heart to race, eyes burning (that is, she feels really happy that he looked for her, she never expected him to) and she blushes when he wipes the seawater from her face.

He then tells her to tell him if he got another poison and he'll testify on her behalf to the duke. Penelope asks him if he's asking as the marquis or the information dealer. If he's the marquis then he's overly interested and she'll solve it herself but if he's the dealer then isn't it the same as he doubted her. When she asked him to prepare a poison without antidote what did he honestly think? The evil princess trying to poison the real princess who returned? After the rudeness she received last time she would go back one more time and do what she wants. But she didn't get that because he had made an antidote. At this moment his face is hell as it crumbles. She didn't know what he wanted from her. Did he want her to say that she was trying to hurt Yvonne or find out who gave the other poison. But one thing was certain. She tells him to pick up the trust her never had in her and then pushed his chest back with one finger so he took a step back saying that this is the distance between him. They were always just one step away from one another but she didn't want to be involved in it anymore. She knows he's smart so he'll understand but he grabs the finger telling her that even if he predicted that she would poison others, is it just poison in her hands? She realizes something is wrong when she sees his bloodshot eyes. He tells her he's a wizard who values life above all else and it's his mission to prove it in comparison to the Layla followers who take power and steals the lives of others. But since meeting her he's forgotten a lot of things - the grip on her finger is strong. She tells him to look for excuses from himself not from others but he continues.

2. He tells her how he met Yvonne who loved to help the poor and had taught him a lot. She asks whether he thought she planned to kill such a sweet person but he stops her saying he was afraid for Penelope. Penelope who was scared of her return who entrusted money to him. Penelope who when the real daughter returned would that money and disappear. So when Yvonne approached him saying she had regained her memories of her family he ignored her. After he left he heard that the slums she stayed in had been attacked by monster continuously and he hasn't had a good night sleep. He had committed an unforgivable sin and had nightmares from it. The first thing he worried about when he heard of Yvonne's return and when she commissioned him to make the poison was to make an antidote to cover up the crime she committed. He then asks whether this is a matter of trust? Penelope is shocked by his confession. The good and kind Vinter from normal mode had already turned Yvonne away forsaking his beliefs for Penelope. Due to this Eclise who was brainwashed brought her back instead. Vinter begs her again to answer whether this is a matter of trust but Penelope reckons it's his personality problem which makes him laugh.

3. She asks didn't he say he was interested in her? He says he doesn't know but ever since he left her room that night he thinks about her every time he wakes up and all the days he could have spent with her releasing her finger. Penelope apologizes but she can't accept it (such an ambiguous love). He says he's not asking her to accept her but don't tear herself apart. Use him. She wonders what the color purple meant. She asks, even if he mask comes out? He assures her he's been ready for this since he made the poison. She asks even if she asks him to incriminate Yvonne. He tells her he'll use memory manipulation magic. She then asks would he kill her. He hesitates and says he'll hire an assassination guild and sign it. She laughs thinking it's a perfect answer and wonders whether it would have been better if this happened before hard mode ended. But she asks what about the children he protected who are probably being prosecuted by Layla somewhere. Vinter looks like he's going to cry by this stage as he hadn't thought about them and she was asking him to choose between his mission and love. So decides to stop teasing him and tells him she wouldn't ask him to do that. Believe it or not she's a pacifist and she doesn't want to give up his mission for her. She just wants to finish this job as quickly as possible and leave the house. So the conversation comes fulls circle as he points out that someone was clearly aiming for her so why is she trying to frame herself. So she decided to admit it and agrees that it would be a plot of someone who bought the poison... but she already bought a poison through her dedicated aid. Really, reading this story makes me feel too many emotions, I don't even know where to start to describe my frustration
I really like Vinter, but reading this made me fully understand why he isn't and can't be the ML. I don't blame him for this, but gaining his trust is basically almost impossible. This must be also due to Yvonne magic, I know, but still... Penny proved many times to him she's trustworthy, so it must be pretty humiliating for her seeing how Vinter still can't totally believe in her. At the beginning, I could understand: he wanted to protect the children, and she had just discovered the place where they were hidden. He didn't know her, neither know what her true aim was, but after what happened during their mission to save the children from the cult, I hoped Vinter understood that Penelope isn't harmful for him or the young magicians. YET, he still can't fully trust her, nor he is able to believe that the one who is really scheming an evil plan is Yvonne. Yes, of course, Yvonne helped Vinter many times, she must have apperead to him like some sort of angel, but c'mon, dude, how can you even consider the idea Penny tried to kill her? On such an important day? In front of so many people? you should know Penelope is smarter than this. I understood he is divided beetween his trust on Yvonne and his actraction towards Penelope (I can't call his feeling love, at least for me it isn't love), still... Ahhhh, Vinter Callisto totally deservers to be the ML: he trusts Penny completely. Above all, the thing he wants the most is just one: Penny's safety. I believe Callisto wouldn't even care if Penelope really tried to kill Yvonne (though, of course he knew she didn't. Callisto knows Penelope dislikes blood, that she isn't an evil woman like everyone think), what matters to him the most is that Penny is alive, safe and happy.

I would describe Derek's love as the twisted, prideful obsessive kind. It doesn't help that the Duke's method for discipline is basically probation, YOU SHAMED THE ECKHART NAME, REFLECT ON IT.

He has been plagued by guilt ever since Yvonne was swept away by the crowd at the festival and disappeared. The poor guy can't get over that it's his fault, if he was stronger, if he could protect her. In his mind, women are weak creatures that need to be protected. He has a very misogynistic outlook. Penelope's existence makes him so conflicted - he's disgusted that he finds her charming, that he wants to get closer to her - but she's still officially his sister. He wants to get close to her, but he feels like he's abandoning Yvonne. He can't allow himself to let the "fake" take the place of his real sister. So he copes by treating Penelope as an object instead of a person. He's possessive, and wants her to stay inside and to not go outside where it's dangerous. Every time Penelope made a mistake, he blames her - this child from the streets can never be the same as his sweet younger sister. He never bothered to understand her, but instead put her down over and over again. He never thought to understand her POV, but rather told her that she brought shame to the family. Over the years after being shut down and blamed, It makes sense that Penelope remained as a child and threw tantrums for attention (Pre-Korean Penelope). Its reasonable to infer that this Penelope was so starved for love that she did indeed act out. Even when Hard-Mode Penelope came to the word, he still treated her as an doll even though she was much more mature (he actually think she's faking maturity ). He thinks that she can't think for himself, and needs him to save her. Like during the trial, he wanted her to shut up and let him and the Eckhart family deal with it - based on reveals down the line, we know that if Penelope didn't win on her own with her quick thinking, their method was just to profusely apologize, blame her for her hysteria and outbursts and to pay whatever fine the royal family deemed appropriate. From what we learned from Callisto's investigation, Penelope never spoke up for herself, even if she was framed or she was wronged. She just accepted whatever the punishment was - she just gave up and cried by herself. I think she was once described as cold and emotionless that could burst out as a "mad dog" when provoked. She had no voice or authority. Derek repeatedly tells her to not stain the Eckhart name - the Eckhart name that she never wanted. The caged bird with dark pink feathers in his office is the perfect metaphor -he just wants her to be an emotionless doll, who stays quiet and for him to forever protect; while he doesn't recognize that she has her own emotions and thoughts and wants to be free.

In the scene where Penelope runs away, he recognizes her even when she wears the bracelet who can alter her appearance. His interest bar is now red (it was yellow at the coming of age). He's very pitiful, yelling, screaming, sweating like a madman for her to come back, why is she doing crazy things?? He tells her to calm down, he won't blame her for this, he's not angry, and to go home together. She coldly asks if he wants to drag her back and for her to die again, which he is baffled. He screams out in desperation why she never looked at him?? . He's fixated on the one time after the maze garden where he gave her a handkerchief and she dazzled him with her smile. (He's jealous she always looked like she enjoyed her time with Callisto and smiled at him, but not with Derek; and he wanted her to look at him the same way again, but she keeps on getting farther and farther away.) Penelope looks at him sadly and then teleports away without a goodbye.

Unfortunately, this is Derek's twisted emotional love. Its inconsistent. Its contradictory. It's harmful to Penelope. But she finally found the courage to leave and not look back

On a side note:
Unfortunately she brings up the idea of leaving the duchy a few times to the Eckharts, but they think she's just bluffing and wanting attention. Before her coming of age Callisto is somewhat aware of her situation and invites her to the palace, but at that point it was too early. He's aware that she's not happy and stressed, but Penelope refuses his invitation. He's shocked and appalled when he finds out how her family thinks and treats of her and he is determined to set her free whether her family allows it or not

I have just suddenly realized that did Penny attract those obsessive love interest? Cause Eclise is enough, and now is Dirreck... I mean, i don't hate them at all, but two is a bit to much for Penny to handle
