When there's a sudden change in the story. I was reading a novel about a MC who summoned an imp and it was about school life, fantasy, him getting stronger and all but then all off a sudden the MC got out of school and the story turned into a kingdom building thing, like, wtf!? You spend dozens of chapters reading something and then, suddenly, the story changes so much that it looks like another story altogether. Ugh

    Is this dejavu.

I think someone asked this just within this week.

I dropped novels due to boring arcs and sudden twists. Like, i was reading something fluffy just within 80 chapters then boom some conspiracy bullshit that throws everything fluffy out the window.

There are many novels with many chaps that are interesting/won't go bland even if it's on chap 1000+

But honestly, most of long assed-chaptered books goes boring in the middle.

This is exactly what happened to The Novel's Extra. I was hella confused as to who the FL is until it dawned to me that it's actually harem.

    Traumatizing.

Not much, honestly. Almost nothing? I can't even think of a single novel I've dropped, offhand.

Err. Put another way, if I didn't like the novel I wouldn't be reading it. 99% of the novels I "drop" are those I've decided within the first couple of chapters that I just don't like. Maybe they have an awful translation. Maybe they're just dumb or rub me the wrong way. Whatever the case, I never really start reading them, so I can't say I "dropped" them. If I make it past the first 10 chapters or so, if I like the novel and keep reading it, then it'd take a heck of a lot to make me drop it. The author would have to just completely lose their friggin' mind. Because normally, you can't really go from "novel I want to read" to "this is just pure shit I should never have picked up" without drastic change taking place.

As others have said, it is Stagnation. If all you get are chapters not important to the plot at all and is just pure filler, recycling the plot like a dog eating shit, or when it's just so generic to the point that it pisses me off.
Novels becoming stale or when the MC just does something so fucking retarded just to advance the plot that I get pissed off are the reasons why I drop them.

I have a lot of things that get me to drop novels, like boring two harems or annoying main characters. But one that will make me drop a novel without even bothering to give it a chance for a few chapters is how the translation is. Weird punctuation(Warlock of the Magus world has an exclamation mark every other sentence), regular awkward sentences, and stuff from the original language that are left untranslated("You baka", or World of Cultivation's TL) are a few that can drive me to drop a novel in the first chapter.

When the main characters made me frustration because their own idiocy (it's mentally draining and I'm not torturing myself). Or the slow pace of the stories and too much exposition

I have a huge patience with crap novels and to make me drop sonething you have to work hard.

but there are some points that i absoluty can’t stand:

uncoherence behavior - if MC is imbecile and people around treat him as a genius (apart comedy), if MC is infantile and perple around him praise his maturity all the time, to simplify, if the MC has a defect and the author not only does not recognise it but behave as if the contrary is true (most of the time showing a mentanl handicap of the author), i drop the novel.

If the author start to create the most stupid excuses to legit MC behavior i drop the novel (ex: against the gods and the “sorry i must rape uou to save your life”). Sometimes, if the history is good i force a bit (ATG has a rich structure and it’s wonderful in every aspect, except one, it’s main char).
Again, exception for comedy (the log of the crazy lich comes in hand as an example).

sometimes i drop a novel cos it just don’t hit me well, there moments there’s no fault of anyone, it just happened.

Repetitive plot twists or events, nothing original (100% cliche texts are common), bad protagonist, stupid protagonist, stupid author, slow plot development, too many explanations

    • Stagnation in plot
    • Repetition (i.e. No original content, the story follows a single overused story board- like stepsister and stepmother in romance transmigration)
    • MC not sticking to initial character (MC suddenly acting dumb idiot after being a genius before)
    • Ridiculously OP MC (makes the story more like an infomercial than a plot)
    • Inconsistent chapter updates ( for the stories which are currently being translated, if chapter updates aren't regular, I would drop the novel and may pick it up again if translations are complete)
