Honestly, ML really loves the MC. However, he does not know how to express his love for the MC because of his experiences growing up in the imperial harem. Though it does not give him the justice to treat the MC like a dog (a metaphor used in the story; middle chapters). I think the story ended with the MC being rescued by her past acquaintances from her chivalric time (her being a general). Then, it was regretful that the ML died alone. PS. In the first half of the story, the ML was so admirable. He depicts a genius leader but in the middle he changed ( or maybe that cruel part of him was his true self?). But I think he had become an idiot. Anyways, I just read a translated version so....
Can someone suggest a good novel after this one. Something that can mend a broken heart cause by this novel. It's already dawn but I still can't sleep because of this tragic love story.
I would love it if the just joined the two versions together. Where the MC didn't die and the emperor doesn't regret it but he dies a horrible death where at his last moments he realises that MC survives as she stands Infront of him, showing him that she helped bring him down and as he looks in her eyes that once looked at him with love, is now filled with nothing but indifference towards him. No pity, no sorrow, no hatred, no nothing and at that moment for the first time he felt a little bit of regret then he dies. To me I would have loved it ended like that.
Sorry I don't know since most links I clicked only has the first version available on google. The new version could either be only available on chinese web or there are no digital copies the last i checked
