As far as I know, there are several software to MTL text. Simplest comparison would be google translate and the bing one. So no, not all MTL of a specific novel are the same.
I might be completely wrong about this, but with actual MTL software you can say "xyz Chinese character will be translated to: Dong King Kong" and then you would have character's names, name of places, weapons, clans, etc always be the same.

And then you have people who are kind enough to actually edit the MTL so that is gives readers less cancer.

So again, no, not all MTL of a novel or any text for that matter will always be the same.

All MTL that doesn't take any time to fix the names of things or edit it are essentially the same. Sometimes you have someone who uses MTL to do the bulk of the translation, but then goes back over it to fix it up and make it readable.

I actually like google. I've noticed a great improvement over the past three years. MTL will never get perfect (in my lifetime at least, maybe I'm a pessimist, then again Chinese is a bit too nuanced for a machine to get sometimes, let's not even mention pop culture references, memes and idioms), but you can get used to it, and learning a bit of Chinese can also help with understanding what the mistranslated words actually mean. Like actually copy paste a sentence in an online dictionary and see what each word means compared to the MTL you get. Reading up on grammar will help you piece the sentence together. It takes time, but I find it fun.

You can also try baidu and systran.

Also, I just realized I assumed you meant MTL from Chinese, since that's all I MTL... If you mean Japanese or Korean, I still think google can't handle it well. Especially Japanese for some reason.

Good Ol google does the job for me haha

But for translation quality, I noticed that depending on the websites you source it from it might lightly differ in quality.

    At least for CN,

like jjwxc has would be much better that some rando pirate website I find when I run out of points. it makes the difference of a slightly shity to straight up headache inducing read.

No mtl is good. Its just a gradient from " I can sorta get whats going on" to " this is just a jumble of seemingly random words with some common themes"

I still use translation aggregator to this day for names, 'cause I tend to forget how I translated them the previous times.

That is like asking is all kinds of cancer the same. The answer is yes, and no. But doesn't change the fact that they are all cancer.

Though if you have mtl + editing, it can be bearable if the editor is good enough.

I'd just toss in my two cents as someone learning Japanese, it seems as though MTL's can't really comprehend context and will use the wrong readings sometimes.
