Lydia pulls up the bowing Yurishina feeling really awkward as she can't remember reading the novel if the heroine ever acted like this before. Lydia is thinking since Yurishina is going to be the empress having the future empress liking her is a huge advantage to her plans of escaping the life of a concubine so she's happy that they have a good relationship. :blobfistbumpL::blobfistbumpR:

Yurishina then presents to Lydia a maid named Sarah. Apparently Sarah is a maid who prepares clothing for the emperor and Yurishina shares with Lydia her plan to make sure she dresses and acts in a manner that will win her the emperor's favor. Yurishina sends Sarah back to Lilly Castle with Lydia as their tea time has concluded.

As Sarah rides back with Lydia, Lydia just of curiosity (because she wants to avoid getting the emperor's attention) asks Sarah what is the Emperor's favorite color since she knows Sarah has already told Princess Yurishina. Lydia's thinking that if she wears everything BUT his favorite color, that will help her remain in the background while she plans out her future as a florist.

Sarah favoring Yurishina over everyone else, lies to Lydia saying that the emperor's favorite color is "white" [when in truth, the Emperor's favorite color is "black" ]. Lydia thanks Sarah and gives her a gold necklace she's be wearing as a gift.

We enter a battle field where Marquez, the current crown prince is easily cutting down bodies and wins victory on the battlefield. Marquez returns from his latest success to greet the current Emperor who's sitting drunk with a wine goblet asking why Marquez has returned wishing why he wasn't dead yet. The current Emperor admits that he sends his son to fight so often is that he hopes he would succumb to enemy hands and hits Marquez with the wine goblet. Marquez is glad he is wearing black so no one can see the alcohol stains. :blobcurse:
    Code:
Emperor: "Yes! I am not your father and you are not my son! I'm a great emperor and you're a dirty queen sinner who lied!"
The emperor dismisses Marquez and tells him to go to battle again and again as the Herron Empire starts to conquer other kingdoms and years pass as finally they have conquered the continent which at the end the current. At the same time Emperor becomes terminally ill and Marquez is there who has no feelings of sadness or anything watching the old man die.

Marr wakes up to Lydia holding his hand and touching his cheek asking if he's okay. Marr is uncomfortable as Lydia mentions she's never seen him nap before and to Marr he's wondering why he's showing a sign of weakness.

Marr recollects how irritated he's been because he's been cleaning the whole castle and going through like 5 broomsticks:blobjoy:. [Our emperor is exhausted and wondering how he can keep his facade as a gentle character as and while listening to Lydia show him how to clean the castle. He's irked as he's, a great soldier has fought through countless battles but cleaning the house is like some ultra battle and he wonders if maids who clean castles are more fit than soldiers :blobsweat:]

Suddenly Lydia says "Tada!" and pulls out showing to Marr what he thinks is a weird yellow "blanket" . Lydia says it's a knit sweater and wants Marr to wear it. :blobconfused::blobconfused::blobconfused: Marr who's never seen something made like that in his life is :blobunsure: cringing thinking that he would never wear this "fur armor" which is something would be ridiculous looking on a battle field. Marr watches as Lydia becomes dejected seeing him reject her gift :blobunamused: so he begrudgingly agrees to try on the sweater and is thankful no one is around to see him wearing it.:blobexpressionless:

Out in the garden, Marr watches Lydia talk and sing to the growing Astra flowers, thinking she is so odd as she's been talking to them [the flowers] for over 5 minutes and wondering why this woman is so happy growing flowers in some desolate castle. She calls him over for the water sprinkler and Marr obeys her request without even thinking which internally irks him again [He's quite annoyed with himself lately].:blobrofl:

Marr watches Lydia and is captivated by the image of a joyful Lydia with a ponytail kneeling on the dirt carefully caring for the flowers. He's not use to people with so much happy energy. He's been staring at her for such a long time that Lydia asks why he's looking at her so strangely. He shakes his head thinking it's just exhausting and mumbles "nothing".:blobowoevil::blobsmirk:

As Marr stares at the flowers, Lydia still she that he doubts if the dead flowers will bloom again ad tells him to "believe" which makes him look at her even more skeptical and he asks her what she believes in. She tells him she believes and trusts in him which startles him internallyas all his life he could only trust himself and no one else as everyone he knew was always against him including his father. Used or be used was what life had taught Marr.:blobsmilehappyeyes:

Marr wonders if he could ask her if she would still be believe in a red-eyed demon that kills people [note himself]. He doesn't ask and instead takes the water sprinkler from Lydia's hand and takes care of the flowers for her.

After Mar is done he heads to the find Lydia who's in her office room inside Lilly Castle. Right now Marr knows he has the secret to how to grow Astra flowers, what he now must find out is how the assassins extract the flowers and stems to make the deadly perfume. While watching her work to make the next list of supply requests, Marr decides to head to the kitchen and creates a tray of freshly brewed tea and chocolate snacks, knowing what her likes and dislikes as she works...:aww:
Lydia looks up surprised and so happy, that Marr looking at her feels a strange sense of pride. (LOL):blobowoevil:

As they are both eating and snacking, Marr ponders why he puts up with Lydia as he's never had a single thought about any of the concubines. He usually leaves it up to Jamie to take care of them and handle them as to him they're just political pawns to him.

As this still questioning himself, Lydia starts to talk about how another concubine's castle is raising so many birds that they've become a menace to both Yurishina's and her castle. The birds have been pecking away a her garden and causing a mess. Marr is about to suggest she put in a statement of complaint when Lydia claims out loud "It's all the Emperor's fault."

Marr so surprised he almost reveals himself and then wonders "Does this woman knows that she's cursing the emperor in front of the emperor?!":blobrofl::blobrofl:

Then strangely he wants to hear more...:blobrofl:

At first Marr was shocked then amused but as Lydia goes on and on about his faults, he starts to get defensive and irked. Lydia on the other hand, doesn't notice he's getting more irate and instead thinks she's doing Marr a favor as she believes Marr is a political prisoner of the emperor and is defending Marr by criticizing the emperor. :notlikeblob::notlikeblob::notlikeblob:

Lydia basically goes off about how a man can want 30 concubines when 2-3 should be enough and also due to so many woman and so many castles their budgets are constraint. She wonders how greedy the Emperor can be! Lydia believes a man who wants 30 woman must be a womanizer or some sort of a pervert. (Marr's thoughts are that doesn't "covet" 30 woman and the only concubine he even spends time with is Lydia but can't say this yet. By now he's starting to get a headache wondering if the other concubines think the same way.:hmm: so he decides to leave. ) Lydia doesn't notice how stiff Marr and she asks him to look after the flowers briefly before he goes. He doesn't answer her and heads out. :blobsweat:

We're back at the Imperial Palace in the Oval Office. Marquez is sitting there in his chair and sees the pile of paperwork that's starring to pile up at his desk. He suddenly notices there's a pile of proposed budget for the palace and concubine budget requests. He's starts to ponder..yeah why are there 30 concubines. (LOL - he hasn't been paying attention). He axes the concubine Carolyn's budget since she has been punished and thinks that's good enough :blobowoevil_horns: ...and then remembers Lydia's words about Rose castle and the annoying birds...so then he starts to slash that budget and tells them to stop raising pet birds:blobthinkingsmirk:. He doesn't stop there as now he's curious about Lilly castle's budget. What has Lydia requested he wonders. He's first surprised at why he can't find her budget and finally after searching though the piles of paper, he finds like 2 lines for her proposal. He's thinking...'wait is that it?':blobawkward:...thinking he grabs his pen and starts to add some zeros to the end of her request and then stops..thinking..hmmm..isn't that too little ( :blobrofl::blobrofl:) so he pulls up the 31st concubine's budget (Yurishina's) to compare to and realizes Yurishina has requested a large budget for her needs. So he copies the same requested amount for Lydia's, though as he's changing Lydia's numbers, he wanted to increase it even more but recalled that Lydia doesn't want to stand out that much (lol :blobrofl:)

Jamie enters and is shocked to see the Emperor. Marquez smells perfume on Jamie and asks him which concubine he just visits as the the fake emperor. Jamie tells him he's just come back from visiting Yurishina at Tulip Castle. Marquez is notes that Jamie's face is red and Jamie tells him he had a drink with the princess. Marquez notes..."So I drank with the princess?" Jamie acknowledges this quickly and goes on to explain that there's restlessness from the citizens of Periland who are still resistant to being ruled under Herron Empire and that visiting and getting to know the princess will help quell the unrest. While Jamie is explaining, Marquez quickly puts his the emperor's of approval on the budget papers and slides them over a finished pile without Jamie' noticing.

    End of spoilers.

Marquez returns to Lilly castle and checks up on the Astra flowers as he recalls in the previous chapters. As he exams the garden bed, he sees small sprouts beginning to bud from the second burial. He believes once he has the secret of the Astra flowers, he plans to cut off his ties with Lydia even though he finds her interesting, he has no time for this and his focus must be on the creation of this perfume.

While he's thinking of these thoughts he jumps up to the castle window near Lydia's room. As he is walking away from the window, Lydia hears him and calls out his name coming out from her bedroom. She asks him where he has been since it's been a few days since they last talked. Lydia appears before Marr in a black dress and an awkward moment ensues.

Marr is stunned as Lydia looks lovely in the black dress. He gets all flushed and silent.:aww: Lydia on the other hand sees Marr acting oddly, becomes alarmed wondering who he's been visiting that's causing this. She thinks he's been found out by the Emperor. Marr gets panicky as Lydia tries to get closer and ends up falling out of the window :blobscream:. Lydia screams and rushes to the window only to have Marr come back. She grabs his arm to hold him thinking he's going to run away again. Marr gets more flushed and can't look at her so he looks to the side and tells her it's not because of the emperor that he's acting awkward. He says "..shadows" pointing to her her dress.

Lydia becomes confused thinking the dark dress must have triggered some fear of ghosts or something in his past and thinks it's cute so she pets his head :blob_patpat: to reassures him it will be alright and tells him it's time for dinner. He can barely follow her.

So to Lydia, Mar is now, a stalker, pervert, servant, friend who's afraid of ghosts and has PSTD from being int he battle field too much. (Gawd these two!:blob_teary:)

The next day they head out to a pond on the estate for a picnic. Lydia thinks it would be fun and give comfort to Marr if they were to take off their shoes and wade in the cool water. She does this in front of a shocked Marr who's watching a young lady show off her feet and ankles in front of him. She gets mischievous and splashes Marr and then tries to get him to take off his shoes and socks and join her. They tossle and Lydia ends up falling into the pond. Hurt by his rejection she leaves and heads back to the garden and starts to cry wondering if she ever had a friend. Suddenly strong arms wrap around her from behind and Marr apologies. He gets towels and blankets to get her dry still outside. Later he he gently carries her back into the castle and Lydia is happy at the end as she feels Marr and her are becoming closer as friends (there is some sweet moments in ch22-23)

Later that day they're in the library room and Marr asks her about the books she's reading. Lydia confesses she wants to be rich selling flowers. Marr curious asks her to explain about being rich, she smiles and reveals her secret to Marr saying she plans to leave the imperial city as a concubine to some far away place, open a flower shop business growing star flowers and become rich.

Mar: "Wait...are you thinking of leaving the Imperial City?!" Lydia explains of course and why should one say and waste their life away. Why not achieve one's dream and live the good life. She gets all giddy explaining and then an idea pops in her head that maybe Marr and her can escape and stay as friends away from the imperial palace.:blobxd:

    Mar: "Give up."

Lydia is irked with Marr rejecting her plans when the monthly servants have arrived with her deliveries. She heads downstairs ignoring Marr who is upstairs, to direct where to put her supplies. Then they ask her if they can the put the extra gold in the her warehouse. She's like "Gold? What gold?" She thinks...huh...her items must have been cheap or on sale or something if she's got some over money, so she agrees not looking at what they are talking about.

After the servants left she's going through inventory in her warehouse as Marr watches her. She's excited with all the books that have come in and then she sees a box of gold and freaks out why is there so much and did they make a mistake.

Marr comments well now she's rich, she doesn't have to be forced to open a flower shop and she doesn't have to leave the city. Lydia instead becomes upset, much to Marr's confusion. Lydia gets angry, calling the Emperor crazy for wasting tax payers money on her budget and she doesn't want to earn money this way. She'd rather earn money on her own and be independent. She doesn't want to be a concubine and she won't let the crazy emperor keep her away from her dreams.:blobdevil:

Marr becomes silent and instead helps organize her supplies in the warehouse. Lydia instead reads an etiquette book which happens to mention the word Lycans and how they use to seduce females but it was really a code word to hid woman having affairs. Lydia's thinking..I don't recall reading about werewolves in novel.

Mar then pulls the book away and shows Lydia a box for her to open from the supplies delivered. Inside ins a beautiful luxurious black ballroom dress. Lydia loves the gown and Marr is pleased.

The next morning, Lydia wakes up and sees Marr cooking breakfast and everything is laid out. She ponders why he's so good at cooking, cleaning, etc for an escaped aristocrat and he's way better than she is. At lunch Marr informs Lydia he'll take care of the garden.

When Lydia joins him outside, she begins to ask why doesn't Marr call her casually by her first name as they are friends now. Marr becomes silent and so Lydia thinks it's cute. She really wants Marr to call her by her first name so she teases him by giving him 3 choices, 1-Odette, 2-Lydia or 3- or a worst choice of servant to .... He quickly choose three and she's like but, wait..what?!...that wasn't want she wanted.

Tables turned on Lydia, Marr pushes Lydia to say the choice #3 out loud which is difficult because Marr wants Lydia to say the word, .....'Master'.:blobrofl:

Flustered and embarrassed, Lydia cries out it was a joke when Marr's serious tone interrupts her. Looking at him, Marr says out loud that there are flowers missing.
