I like tbh the trend of character development. Like a villain realising their own mistakes and trying to change. In this case for eg. the step sis. Sadly its so rare...

Oh agreed, and after what Aria did to the count it's just very hard to feel sympathy for her
The guy I felt sorry for was the count. He took Aria and her mom in gave them a good home, treated Aria better than her mom did, then was robbed of everything he had for his trouble

Did he treat Aria like he did Mielle? Like listening to her? Not throwing her to every suitable in the vicinity?
Did he treat her as a daughter instead of someone who just happens to be a child of his wife?
From what I could gather, blending a stepfamily is not an easy task. But based on what I read, he treated her as an obligation. Which is fair. I could understand a parent's feelings towards a bio child over a stepchild. Their relationship is transactional and civil, not really family-like. If Aria's mom died while the father lived, I doubt she will still be living in that house or be able to use her father's name.

Im sorry but I dont agree with you. as I said I read no spoilers but in what I read in webtoon he is just a shameless scum. sure he gave her the money and the food but what was have he done for her? thos are her rights simply so its not him been good in my oponine
there is no way he didn't know about how her wife dead in first life and never bothered to marry mc off knowing she might follow her mother. he didn't car about her.

and for this life time he was welling to marry her off to a “ servant “, she is the one who helped him in business but he just gave his daughter the credits. MC is right she is simply a dog to him. She can serve him like a dog protecting his owner (helping him in business),give her small reward for doing good job( like small box ), he will fed and dress her cuz he has to and that all.

ofc its understandable to love ur own flesh and blood more but he clearly never thought about MC as a human. he never gave her a gift in first life since she wasn't useful for him she just a pet to feed.

I really get what you're saying and I personally feel if you take a Child in you have obligations to make them part of the family. But that's not the only way to see it. Out of all the people in the original timeline the count treated Aria by far the best. He brought her in gave her the benefits of mobility and wealth. Aria's mom well calling her a whore was accurate but also charitable and incomplete. Before marriage Aria might as well have been a feral child, after marriage mom did very little if anything to guide and protect her.

You can say the count wasn't a pro[per father but he he did far more for her than her real dad

she told him about the fur trend and that did benfite his business. But he randomly just said its his daughter who gave him the idea. I believe it’s a common sense to not lie about the person who helped you.

he might didn't hurt her in first line but he wasn't clueless ether he just turned a blind eye. It’s up to u if you would like to think he isn’t that bad. I don't plan to make it a long discussion since I don't plan to change my mind about him expect if I see him changing, and don't rally like to force my thoughts into anyone and already said what I have.

I agree with u about the fiance. He's merely like a puppet to them in the first and 2nd timeline. So in a way he is one of the pitiful ones. Next to mc's first maid in the first timeline.

He said his daughter and [people assumed Mielle(with good reason). Second he had literally paid in advance. Even by your standards Aria comes off like crap. He wasn't nice enough to me so I'll abuse his kindness and see he dies ruined, penniless and alone.

Ugh and that mom what a viper. Just another john and he's no longer got any money? Let him die in the gutter

No one would like aria is she wasnt the MC. No matter how shiity you make the MC people will find a way to justify her. Writers have safety nets that no matter how bad there MC is people will ways simp for her

Her mother probably has an std and will die early anyway. So theres that karma

What I mean by mature and realistic is.soemtning that seemd like it wsnt written by an angry middle schooler.

Theres fitting poetic endings for the Villain and then theres just lazy torture porn

But an example? Inspector javert from les miserables

Hes actually a complex villain which you'll never see in korena novels . When in the end that man he was chasing for 20 years proved to be more godly and I guess in a way more "lawful" man then him by saving him he couldn't come to terms with the fact that his ideals and goals wernt what he thought they were and committed suicide. Javert was a lawful and religious man so his death had a hint of irony too since suicide is a huge sin

Now keep in mind this book was written 150 years ago. And yet still managed to have a fitting end for the villian. Books nowadays have no excuse to have such shitty villians and endings. And yet we keep devolving. Authors make the Villains hate sinks because there much easier to write then complex villians and people eat it up. Like duh of course your gonna hate the antagonist who kicks puppys and eats orphans for breakfast. Any sane person would. You're literally dictating the readers thoughts for them

Sadly the authors need to make money so cause the audience approved of it more characters like those are written. Heaven forbid you actually need to ponder if the Villians has a point or not. That would be too complex for all us smooth brains out here. People love complex villians though. Joker and thanos come to mind as recent examples. Maybe people can see nuances instead of only black and white like authors assume

I'm of the belief that you're noom is only as good as you're antagonist. Unless they rarely appear. . So if there a mustache twirling villian like mielle? Yeah

I don't get it. if the mother has STD, which is neither true nor false, does she deserve to be shamed because of that?
And since Aria is her child, she is guilty of something because of their relationship?
What exactly are they are guilty of? Having sex for the mother?

I read it with the assumption that each character is a piece of crap so I don't feel bad for anyone.

No he said its milli if its he just saying its my daughter and then people assumed its milli I will understand this part. But he said its milli by name.

I partly wonder if I misunderstood you, because its really hard for me to accept your pov and wonder what kindness you see in him. In the end the only real good people is milli fiance, her maid and her teacher. The others arnt.

Well I think your question highlights the issue. I don't see kindness in anyone in this novel except the maid. The count is just surprisingly broad minded for the setting

Count: Who is Arias father is it someone thenfamily might have to worry about or come around demanding money?
    Mom: No idea
Count: Just how many lovers have you had?
Mom: Do you know scientific notation, and how many significant figures needed?

I think the count just don't have the reason to hurt MC. Unlike his children he isnt someone who will hurt anyone who he dont like so he wont act without a reason. Same time if he knew MC going to die he has no reason to help her ether even if he can easly. Which why I dont care what MC will do to him because in the end it's a matter of who will eat the other first. They all evil in the end.

The mother might be a whore, but she is a woman who was pretty and lived in the streets I wont even be surprised if she got raped once. However the count wasnt the first noble who was welling to marry her. But she refused the first one to keep her daughter. In the end she isnt pure but we know she at least care for her daughter. Like the count who isnt pure but also deeply care for his children.

I actually really liked how the MC kept to her goal till the very end. A lot of the other "revenge" plots in other novels have the MC softening up and forgiving those horrible ML's or just not having a strong enough conviction but still ended up fine at the end because of pure luck really...

MC recognized she was stupid, worked hard to learn etiquette, embroidery and economics and then used her knowledge of future events to help her become the person she wants to be. She even thought at one point that if Mielle would let her be in the first life, she might've been content living quietly.
So yes, she was heartless throughout her revenge, but Mielle also caused a lot of her own karma. It was Mielle who tried to sabotage Aria's wagon, tried to poison her with Berry, and then pushed her own blood related father down the steps, when all Aria did was outshine her. Aria just seized the opportunity to fight back. At the end Asher realized how much damage Mielle caused Aria and helped end her suffering.
It's very hard for a young girl to grow up normally when she's been told she's dirty, a prostitute's daughter, evil and wicked all the time. In her internal monologue she always thinks about how she's supposed to be wicked, so I think it affected her mind set quite a bit.
You can really see Aria's growth as the story progressed. She was an unloved child at first who decided to use whatever was at her disposal to succeed, with her hard work, she gained business sense as investor A and could make business decisions without relying on knowing the future, she rarely used the hourglass as the story progressed and she found her own worth. She also had a hard time accepting the fact that she's not an evil person since that's how she was identified throughout her whole life. How she had a hard time accepting the fact that Asher and Sarah loves her for who she is, and to learn to love them back. Even when her own mother had never showed her any love growing up.

Anyways, not saying Aria is a saint, but the author had done a good job portraying her as human and let her grow throughout the story.
