Discussion Why are shōjo heroines sometimes stalkerish?

If you read or watch shōjo manga or anime, chances are you’ve seen the mc (typically female) follow the ml. It’s very stalkerish. I always cringe at this situation and die of embarrassment for the mc. I understand that it’s fiction and cartoonish but why is this a cliche situation? What do you guys think

Edit: it seems like some are confused because of my title and lack of proper explanation. I’m referring to these instances, typically in shōjo, where the MC follows around the ML. I’ve only seen them be used once per story lol but for me they appear quite frequent.

lmao, same here, especially when they get caught by the ml...the second-hand embarrassment is unbearable. I think it's for the authors to create an "encounter"

I don't mind if it's just a chapter, like wanting to know something about the ML but being too embarrassed to ask or sth.
It's made for comedy and although sometimes cringe-worthy I consider it to be acceptable.

I have yet to read a story where the MC is constantly stalking the ML.
Do you have any examples?

Ugh, I hate that. Give me female protagonists with personalities like the mc from Beauty Pop! I mean, I never thought I'd read a manga about cutting hair, but it's been one of my favorites for a long time simply because the MC isn't like other girls. Lmao Even Skip Beat has turned bleh for me now that the romance is coming more into play

Ok, from reading the description it seems to be a anime about a girl obsessed with the ML. Given that her being a stalker is the whole point of the anime, it seems like a bad example for this thread.

 

It's actually got a completed manga too. (8 volumes, ~100 chapters)

Well I mean it’s usually a one time thing but I feel like it’s used often. But that might just be my choices.
If I were to give an example I would give, Blue Spring Ride, episode 8, about 14 minutes in. I tell you what happened. MC ran into ML after hanging out with friends. ML leaves after talking for a bit and MC impulsively follows him. She goes on a train, follows him until she doesn’t really know where she is, he meets up with friends, and she approach him because “he looks like a person from a different world.” And she “doesn’t like that.”

 

I was referring to those one time bits. I’ve seen them so much and I cringe very time so I wanted to know what others thought.

 

I think it's supposed to be a comedic way to show the MCs insecurity. You only want to read about the MCs doubts for so much before calling them a wuss or being reminded about your own problems with relationships or just getting bored.

Since the author wants to show said insecurities (after all, they tend to try not to write Mary Sues) while still entertaining the readers, you get these one time stalking chapters.
Eventually it just became a trope.

I think that it is just a fetish for asian people or something. When girl stalks guy, it's not a big deal. But if guy stalks girl, it's a disaster.
